Why the Bible is Confusing

why is the Bible so confusing and especially why is the Old Testament so confusing I mean there's a lot of really good reasons it was written in a different time it was written in a different language it was written in literary genres with which we as modern readers are extremely unfamiliar but there is actually a deeper reason why the Bible and why the Old Testament especially is so confusing to so many people and it's not a literary reason or a historical reason or a cultural reason the reason why the Bible is so confusing in fact why it is so inaccessible to so many people is because there is a veil over it because people are actually blinded from seeing the glory and the light and the goodness that is in the Bible by Satan and by their own sin and by spiritual oppression a veil a blanket a shield blinders lies over their Bibles so what I want to do over these next several videos is open up 2nd Corinthians 3 and 4 particularly verses 12 through 4:6 and kind of talk through what it means to say that there is a veil over our Bibles and how through Christ it's taken away and basically what my thesis will be is this that no matter how hard we try to read our Bibles and to engage with Scripture unless we turn to Christ and the Holy Spirit allows us to see him in all of Scripture we will be reading the Bible with a veil over it and our eyes and our hearts will be blinded so I invite you now to listen to second Corinthians 3:12 2 4 6 since we have such a hope we are very bold not like Moses who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end but their minds were hardened for to this day when they read the Old Covenant that same veil remains unlifted because only through Christ is it taken away yes to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts but when one turns to the Lord the veil is removed now the Lord is the spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom and we all with unveiled face beholding the glory of the Lord are being transformed into that same image from one degree of glory to another for this comes from the Lord who is the spirit therefore having this ministry by the mercy of God we do not lose heart but we have renounced disgraceful underhanded ways we refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's Word but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God and even if our gospel is veiled it is veiled to those who are perishing in their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ who is the image of God for what we proclaim is in ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord with ourselves as your servants for Jesus sake for God who said let light shine out of Darkness has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ hey there my name is David Bowden with spoken gospel it's the mission of spoken gospel to speak the gospel out of every corner of Scripture and you've just seen one of the ways we try to do that with our sessions in second Corinthians three and four we hope you'll join us for the whole series if you want to subscribe to learn more about what we're doing we asked you to click here and if you want to learn how to support us on patreon we invite you to visit our patreon page and click here thanks so much [Music]
