uh hello everybody uh welcome back to anything of be a podcast with Taylor cago my name is Taylor cago and anything can be a podcast uh today we are in the uh forom University at Lincoln Center the Kean uh uh housing elevator I'm wearing a suit and I'm going to explain all of uh uh Hamilton to to you um I'm going to explain all of Hamilton so uh it starts off right and Alexander Hamilton Alexander Hamilton okay before Hamilton was like put on Broadway and everything Alexander Hamilton was not that well known of a name people were always just kind of like oh Alexander Hamilton isn't he on like the $5 bill or something is he on the $5 I don't know which Bill he's on I'm going be honest I'm not the biggest Hil fan but Alexander Hamilton he was like like not that popular of a guy and all of a sudden it's like oh man like that's crazy Al sander Hamilton like you know he like pops into the cultural Z guys right uh now the interesting thing about this is that like at all happens kind of overnight Lin Manuel Miranda he's uh you know just like doing his thing he's writing he just he just came off in the Heights it's like a whole thing uh he's not the most popular but like he's getting some traction and he creates this musical and it's like it's a pretty solid it's a pretty solid musical like it's a pretty good time right um and the whole thing starts out just just a uh context again um the whole thing starts out and he is like he plays Alexander Hamilton like Linn Manuel Miranda plays Alexander Hamilton right so he's the guy that is like doing all the things cuz he he's the one that ultimately like knew the most about the show right um originally he wanted to cast someone else as Alexander Hamilton not a lot of people know this he wanted someone else to play Alexander Hamilton but you know there's so many line changes and just so much [ __ ] happening he was like well I guess like someone else like no one else can play him so he played Alexander Hamilton right so the show starts out and you'd think like it starts out with like the guy Alexander right but no uh what ends up happening is like they they do the little orchestral like that's a little Motif that's going to play on throughout the rest of the show right uh they do that and the first guy that pops up is actually Aaron Burr Aaron Burr he's kind of like our narrator for this show he's the guy that's kind of like directing like what's going on is kind of from his point of view uh and we'll we'll get to why that is later but uh you know Aaron B he's starting to thing he's like how does a b you know he's describing Alexander Hamilton like oh who is this guy right it cuts to another guy he's like oh well here are some things about him here's some things that happened to him here some things that happened to him in this entire like first bit of the show you're like who is Alexander him that's the whole point of the song the name is Alexander Hamilton right so Alexander right supposedly he's an immigrant I I forget from where but he uh uh essentially Alexander Hamilton like he comes in on ship right he comes in on ship you can you can come in it's all good uh so uh he comes in on this ship and then and then they're like What's Your Name man he's like Alexander Hilton now when the show first started um I believe that like the whole like like him going like alexton like that wasn't really like a like that big of a moment you know like it was it was like kind of decent like whatever blah blah blah but then like as the show gain more traction like as more people started to watch it and where people started to like kind of kind of get introduced to the concept of like the Hamilton musical like people start like clapping during that part cuz it's like oh you know like that's the guy that plays Hamilton that's the particular character Hamilton right so during that part sometimes people will be claing uh it's it's customary to do so uh but they go like Alexander and then and then and then you start clapping sometimes it's Standing Ovation depends on the day um you know Alexander you know uh and there's a million things he hasn't done okay at this point in time like he is just a child right and the entire intro is kind of like uh foreshadowing what the rest of the show is about right so the first half of that intro is them going like okay well here's Alexander Hamilton like here's how his parents were here's how his family life was before he moved to America like here's all these things here's all these things right then it kind of introduces this like post like him uh uh uh immigrating to America lifestyle right so it's like he moving with his cousin and then like his cousin died and then like another person was here like his mother is dead too like he doesn't have a lot of people in his life right Alexander Hamilton was coming from a place like in in his in his lifetime where like a a lot of things are not going well for him right so it's like a whole it's a whole like uh uh uh switch in his mind like oh man like what like what do we do like uh this is like the exciting incident for the rest of the show right uh and then we kind of get into this like future foreshadowing thing where like you know they talk about his interest and they talk about like what he's what he's best at they're like oh you know what he's good at reading he reads A Lot he writes a lot these are things that are going to be really important later on in the show right really great that we're mentioning it here uh uh and then you also kind of get like a a backstory for like who his uh future wife will be who like his uh uh uh like I don't know like the future people in his life are going to be like who he's going to fight the Revolutionary War with uh who he's going to have an affair with like all these different people are all going to be like kind of in in that title sequence right so you have all of them at this point in time you don't really know who any of them are they're allar weing like uh like pretty generic clothing like nothing to really separate any of them because they're all like very uh uh they're they're not like as distinct in your head yet right so it's like a whole thing and Alexander Hamilton right he's just walking around he doesn't recognize that people are narrating over this entire part of his life and it's it you know it's like a it's it's a whole thing for him right um but then you get to the part like we f with him it's like some of the guys that PO with him it's like we trusted him some of the guys that trusted him I don't [ __ ] know uh we uh uh thought he was really really cool guy right it's like a bunch of people that thought he was cool um and me I loved him and me I loved him there's like multiple women on stage that's that's a j Game Changer right because you thought like Alexander Hamilton only had one wife oh boy oh boy but we're not going to get there yet we're not going to get there yet right so then we get to uh uh like the next song in Hamilton there there's no dialogue really all of it's kind of told through the rap and the Poetry that has created but essentially he's uh uh like walking around like the little town square of I think New York right and he runs into this guy Aaron B he was the guy that started the intro like in the first part right so Aaron B like he starts the thing and now and now he's running into him as like an actual character in the show he has no previous recollection of what he was doing in the narration right and he's like oh my God it's Aaron B and uh Aaron is like how the [ __ ] do you know me and he's like oh Aaron Burr like I've been studying up I've been reading up like I know so much about you Aaron Burr because like there's uh uh you know just like so much uh uh dialogue uh there's like a huge dialogue going on between like uh uh like Aon bur all the things he's doing and all the accomplishments that he has uh uh just you know like pre-revolutionary War um and it's like oh you know what like you went to the school like I I went to the school whatever like they have a lot of connections we find out that B was also an orphan Aon so Aron's an orphan Hamilton's also an orphan they bond over these things they're like oh my gosh like where have you been on my life right they become really good buds they become friends really fast right um so Aaron he uh uh yeah he's running in the quad he's like oh like what happened Lin Man mirinda actually reveals that he got into a sorry Alexander Hamilton he reveals he got into a fight um because of something that happened Revolutionary War wise like he punched a guy uh and and uh this is a person that Aaron bur knows decently well right um but Aaron bur is like oh you know what like that's okay like that's fine like you did it for your moral values like you have a strong moral compass and a strong moral code at least at this point in time we're going to get to that Alexander Hamilton like he get like some happen in his life where his moral code is kind of is kind of kind of iffy but at this point in time like you know he's doing pretty well s right he's only 19 uh but his mind is older uh so anyway Alexander Hamilton now he's like you know living his life doing his thing all right he is introduced to Aaron bur's friends other people that are in this pre-revolutionary war type thing right so you got John Adams right he's an alcoholic um he I think he cheats on his wife at some point before the show starts um and then and then uh you know uh you he just J Sam Adams that's a pub uh in Boston if you've ever been um I I think that's a rtion John Lawrence sorry John Lawrence John Lawrence is the guy John Lawrence is the name of the guy I got it really confused um John Lawrence is the guy um then you are introduced this next guy and also another immigrant right he's another immigrant Marque de Lafayette he is a French man uh and he you know like he joined the revolution because the French the French people around time are also going through their own Revolution and and a lot of the Revolutionary ideals and and and things that these people are are kind of uh creating and justifying in their heads it's like a it's like a whole thing right so uh uh Lafayette Lafayette for short he is now um a part of this Revolutionary War type thing uh uh I got to I got to think about who the next guy is uh Hercules Mulligan Hercules Mulligan uh he's just one of those guys um he's there's not really much to he yeah I honestly the part that he does is just kind of like a fun little rhyme scheme I don't it doesn't really tell me that much about him as an individual or as another person but he's another person that's kind of like invested in in this Revolutionary War thing just like the other guys are in this circle this entire time all the music is is cut out right and it's just kind of them going like like doing a little de box and like hanging out on like table and everything it's the whole thing right um so no no uh but uh essentially yeah now they've all introduced themselves they're all at the table they're like Oh Aaron B like it was a verse right so Aaron Burr he goes up and they're all like oh look at this guy because you know he's like the big man Aaron Burr is like like the guy he's like the head of their group every group has like a head and Aaron Burr is like that one right so Aaron Burr he introduced self and he is dropping like a little bit of like like not necessarily like Exposition as to who he is because we already have a little Exposition as to who he is but he's giving advice to a younger 19-year-old Alexander Hamilton right and he goes like hey Alexander like you want to hear something and this is some really important information that we're going to uh like hear about a lot like throughout the course of the show right talk less smile more right talk less is a is a a motif that kind of happens throughout the course of um hello the entire like Hamilton show and uh now what happens is that like Alexander Hamilton is a guy that like like does talk a lot like that's kind of his whole thing the whole like premise of the show is that Alexander Hamilton is talking a lot right like you know it's like a [ __ ] three-hour long show um and uh part of his Arc now being started around this point in time is that he really like he like he does not know how to keep his [ __ ] mouth shut right so Alexander Hamilton he's um starting at this point of like he's young doesn't really know how to control like his actions and stuff he punched that guy the burer right it's a really tough deal for him and now he also like we introduces concept like he doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut and part of that is like an anxiety thing right uh we see like a little moment of his anxiety and this kind of thing happens in like a rule of Threes kind of thing where uh and a couple times in the show you'll see Alexander Hamilton and uh uh like doing this thing and he cuts like from the action in the show to like staring directly at the audience and at this point in time he's like oh man like I'm like I'm real nervous like I don't know what's going to happen and this kind of Segways us directly into my shot right my shot is like a whole kind of thing of like oh Alexander Hamilton like like what's going on in your brain because this entire time like uh Aaron B burer whatever like that kind of that's all Exposition right uh it's all expositional and and we kind of just get a feel for like who the characters are like who the people are but um you know it's it's like a a uh this is like a new thing for him right it's like this is now the point in time where we get to see like what's inside Alexander Hamilton's mind and what's going on inside like his brain right so uh uh yeah my shot starts are all like oh who's this [ __ ] guy like what's he doing here like he's just a 19-year-old right like immigrant man like he's not really doing a lot but you know it's like a feel free um but he's uh you know doing his thing right you you guys can stand up but like don't worry uh but he's doing his thing all right and it's like he's not throwing away shot my shot is another Motif that will appear a lot throughout the course of Hamilton right like this entire thing is like my like my shot like something that like uh it works kind of as like a double on tantre right like my shot is in like oh like he's not thr with his shot like he just got this opportunity shot is an opportunity but it's also like a shot as in like a gun right that's a motif oh I'm not going to spoil anything but like it's it's really important that like you know that like a shot is also a thing that comes from a gun it's also a thing that's like you know you take a shot like alcoholism is another important uh Motif in the show we already uh uh learned that with uh John Lawrence right there's like there's like a lot of things that kind of happen with the with the whole my shot thing right now uh what ends up happening is Alexander Hamilton is talking about his life and he's like oh man I'm only 19 like I don't have a lot like I'm like I just moved here like I I I guess I'm into reading I guess I'm into books I guess I'm into the revolution like I am into a lot of things but I don't really know what to do because look at the big guys these are the big dogs right Aaron bur I've read so much about him I've read so much about like Marquita Lafayette like all these things because he's like like very impacted by this Revolutionary War thing right around this time right 1776 uh I don't know if I mentioned 1776 is the the exact year that they mentioned around 1776 what ends up happening is there's like a whole um like thing going on right uh like the revolution war this isn't the first time that revolution has like struck amongst the American colonies the American colonies have actually been a thing since around like the 1500s right so now it's like these are really big moments right we haven't even signed the or we did sign the Declaration of Independence but we haven't really started the war right and he's like oh man like the war is about to start oh man like all these things are going to happen like what like what are we going to do right and he's like really scared he's like I'm not throwing away my shot and and and there's a part where they go to the audience and they're like everybody's singing whoa whoa whoa and that's kind of Representative of uh uh like the British are coming right that that idea that like oh we're telling the masses we're telling the people like oh like the British colonies are now like some where along like this uh like line of American colonies and everything and now we're trying to figure out like okay how do we get the masses how do we get the American people the people just like Alexander Hamilton who aren't like the big dogs yet how are we going to get them to um like you know uh be a part of be a part of the Revolution right and this is kind of represent he's like oh like uh uh tell your brothers tell your sisters tell your mothers you know tell everyone everybody like oh man like the Revolutionary War is happening right another expositionally kind of thing right we cut to uh the Skyler sisters right and the Skyler sisters this is now a whole new thing right cuz up until this point all we've really seen are the boys are the guys right um and you think okay it's called the Skyler sisters like we're going to introduce the Skyler sisters it's Aaron Burr again Aaron bur is the guy that starts the narration off and he kind of like starts this thing of like oh F no uh so uh yeah it's like a whole thing Aon bur is like uh there's nothing Rich folks and he's now talking about like this social class and dichotomy between like the higher ups like the people that are like a part of this Revolution and then the lowly people of New York City around the time of 1776 right so what ends up happening is uh the Skylar sisters they're uh of aristocratic wealth right and it's it's kind of like uh what they like to do is they go down into the the town squares they go down to like the uh more commonplace parts of New York City and they you know they walk around and they see like this is New York this is our future right this is the future of America like this is really cool right now we're introduced to three Skylar sisters I believe there's only three right uh there is uh Peggy she's just kind of there uh she doesn't have a lot of uh uh importance to the story at least she's just there for comedic value which is great I love Peggy Peggy is a great character right now we get into um like some of the later uh uh uh who are the other ones who are the other ones uh Angelica you have Angelica and Eliza right Angelica is the eldest sister she's kind of the most uh uh I guess like responsible and mature one she wears bright red which is how you know it's her right Eliza wears green Peggy wears yellow it's like it's there there's there's some color there right um Eliza is like this middle child she's just kind of there she's also in this like uh a dreamlike world of like oh Alexander Hamilton's like 1776 America right like uh she's just she she's another person that wants the revolution to happen and uh yeah this this is kind of like an exciting incident of like oh yeah the revolution war is about to to start right they're going around they're like oh yeah this is like the most like women empowerment moment of the entire show which sucks cuz there's only like like really one song with like these [ __ ] and then like Alexander Hamilton's and like all of the other songs and let me be real Li Miranda way less cool than like the Skyler sisters like that's just a fact uh it's like a whole I see some head shapes but like I you know I think uh but yeah so now so now they're like oh uh Revolution like uh here's the um like uh uh you know we made our constitution like like We the People whatever blah blah blah it's it's a whole like like uh uh very uh like male Centric view of like what the colonies should be and that's really um upsetting right which is why they're like oh you know what like um you know what like we'll include women in the seel word right so now it's like oh you know what there's a little bit of like like uh women empowerment there too right and that's a really cool that's a really cool thing that happens in this part of the song right but also that's uh contrasted with Aron bur being the one that like starts it and kind of ends the song right so Aaron bur he's doing this thing and he's going like oh you know what like uh uh uh I we've already gotten to that part of the song but uh it's we're on um so L and so what ends up happening is now um uh yeah like Aaron Burr like he's hitting on them and it's like oh okay that's kind of weird we don't we don't like that like these are just three sisters trying to trying to like you know visit the Town Square right Peggy is kind of like oh I don't know like like our dad said we're not supposed to and Angelica andar are like hey like we're like we're here specifically because we like we think this is like an important thing like this is the revolution like this is some place that we have to be right so um it's there there's the whole you know General concept of like um uh whatever blah blah blah uh the sky sisters there's like a whole thing right now we cut back to the men right uh and these guys they're like all having having some shots right and they're all drinking into the Revolution and they're all like we may not live to see our Glory but I will gladly join the fight when our children tell our story they'll tell the story of tonight right the story of tonight this is a groundbreaking and momentum occasion um uh uh like in in Hamilton's life right where it's like this is this is it right I've made it and these guys are saying like I'm now an important part of History right like who lives who dies who tells our story right so Alexander Hamilton he's living his life and he's going like oh okay like whatever like oh my gosh this is great like we're really we're really like happy to be here like I'm I'm finally making my friends don't apologize um but he's like oh like this is great this is cool this is awesome right and they do their cheers right uh there's not much else there other than the fact that like you got to know like one they're getting closer together two shots oh like my shot and three we uh uh we have the uh the concept of like children when children tell our story history like what's going to happen this is another thing that Hamilton kind of struggles with it's like how am I going to be uh mentioned the future because this is such an important part of like American uh history right this is like the start of the colony is like when they when they write the history books it's like this is going to be about us right at this point in time he has no he has no doubt in his mind that like his legacy is going to be this right he's an important figure right Alexander Hamilton right retion is happening right we're already kind of at the point where Alex hi um so now we're at Samuel sey right Samuel cury he's this guy he's uh uh you know a a British man and he's usually played by someone that's a part of the um ensemble cast right and there's this little uh duet kind of thing that like Hamilton does with Samuel SE SE is standing on an apple crate uh and announcing the Town Square like the British are coming like this is the thing that's happening right and and uh Alexander Hamilton and his and his buds they're all like standing off to the side while everyone's listening and they're going like oh look at this guy and they're making jokes about him they they take a couple shots and them shots my shot oh haha right so there's like a whole like thing going on and this is kind of indicative of like how people were feeling about the bir colonies at the time right now um we give us more so so they you know they take a couple Jabs at him they they mentioned New Jersey low blow but you know like it's kind of like Alexander him like like you know he's just having a good time right um and what ends up happening is uh you know Cur like he gets really upset he does the same verse again like he reads like the the same like a a charter that he was sent to read by uh uh uh what is it King Henry King Henry um the eth the seventh there's one of the Kings whichever King was alive at the time um now it was King George King George thank you um but King so King George III uh yeah he's the one that sent in that thing right and now it's like oh man like this guy he's big trouble like like we just heard about Samuel C and all these things we have no actual like conversation with uh King George I thir himself right so what ends up thank you uh what ends up happening is now we have a song entirely from the perspective of King George right now King George this is another another thing we're going to rule of Threes him King George is uh in in three parts of the show but in this part of the show it's like a uh him just going like hey guys it's me it's King George III uh there there's like a whole like Revolution you guys are starting well I'm not [ __ ] buying that right U now it's important to note that all the characters so far and this is a motif that I think like l Miranda very specifically wants when he casts Hamilton right uh uh it's it's only it's only uh people of color playing these main characters right in The Ensemble you have you have a a a variety sometimes it's people that aren't people of color but as far as your main characters go it's like uh uh it's all Hispanic black representation Asian representation native uh representation like there's a lot of different uh uh uh racial and ethnic groups that characters King George is played by a white man in every iteration of the show um and what ends up happening with the with the King George thing is that like uh you know he's just he's doing his like fun little British accent he's doing his more traditional Broadway Type music song uh he doesn't rap he uh his Rhymes are very straightforward they're very like uh you know ABAB uh Alexander Hamilton in contrast he he wraps uh uh like slightly like slightly faster and a more modern Pace because also another uh contrast that we're trying to show here is that like you have these original Traditional Values of what Broadway is that is that is tied to like what the original Traditional Values of uh uh like the British are right and this new found like musical style of uh rapping and and and doing this like lyrical poetry that Lio Miranda does so well right this whole thing is kind of like like how the American Revolution feels in contrast to the British right anyway uh you have you have your your uh King George thei and he's doing like you know he he does his whole thing right it's like a whole like whatever going and and uh it ends and he's just like oh you know what and he's kind of treating it this is it's it's kind of kind of funny right he he treats this song like it's like a breakup thing and he's like oh you know what like I know I have a lot of power in this relationship like uh you guys aren't going to leave because like I know you guys like whatever blah blah blah you don't want to start [ __ ] because like come on man like we're the British like come on like come on right uh and and and he he's kind of playing around with this idea that's it's not that serious but he's using terminology that that makes it more like funny than it is right it's like oh man like I'm going to kill you guys but but he's saying in terms of like oh whatever right now what ends up happening what ends up happening is is now we're we're cutting over to like the midst of the Revolutionary War right you have your general first couple battles and you have your general like uh conversational moments right and you have now uh this ball that uh uh like Alexander Hamilton the boys go to right now at this ball like it starts off and it's it's like the story of tonight reprise I think no no no no no but it's those guys from St St tonight like it's it's those guys right and the group they're all hanging out they're like oh man like in this town like you know what like you know you've made it when you dat a skyler sister and this this kind of sets up the premise that like dating a skyler sister is something that's very important to like General Society because like again they come from a place of wealth right now the Skyler sisters uh they're at this ball right and Alexander Hamilton the guys they're all like oh man like it'd be really crazy if if you could get with one of them and and I forget which one it might have been Hamilton and he goes like it's not a question of uh witch bur but which one you or if which whatever right so now it's like Alexander Hamilton uh like very confident that he can pull one of the Skyler sisters and well uh not to um uh uh uh uh not to uh like spoil the rest of the show but what ends up happening ironically enough is that he pulls more than one um so now there's this now there's this interesting conversation of like oh man like he uh later on States Eliza marries Eliza has a kid with Eliza right around this time he is still with like with this idea in his head that like he's going to be with Angelica Skyler right um he really has no specific like uh uh like uh uh love in his heart for any of the Skyler sisters and this is more this is more like a title thing uh later on in the show obviously like he gains like whatever blah but he's a pretty pretty awful guy right but what ends up happening do you say you don't know he broke his uh know what's going on for the show well what ends up happening now is uh he meets uh Eliza right and we get this uh uh the scene of Alexander Hamilton meeting Eliza and going Hamilton blah whole whole uh uh dialogue there where it's like oh wow like this is going really well right this is like a really good thing that's going on for him and then oh rewind cut back to the perspective the point of view of Angelica Skyler Angelica Skyler now sings what is the second fastest song in the entire show because she has to recall all the different things that are going on in like her life around this time right so what ends up happening is Angelica Skyler uh you know she does she does like a little monologue Spotlight kind of hits her everyone is on like the turntable kind of going backwards right and that is uh symbolic of of like like time rewinding right so she's like oh man like these are the feelings I've been feeling like Alexander Hamilton he was such a good guy like we hit it off like whatever blah blah I was going to marry Alexander Hamilton but Eliza like like there were complications with like my sister and she at this time is going like man I love him but Alexander Hamilton is objectively like a really shitty guy and he is a really shitty guy like Alexander Hamilton [ __ ] sucks dude he's an awful person right uh but Angelica is kind of the first person to uh recog that and understand like hey guys I'm warning you I'm telling you a lot of the show is about warning right like like shitty things are going to happen because of this right but she kind of plays it in a way where it's like she's still proud of her sister Eliza right so now you have this interesting dichotomy of like oh there's like a character like a Eliza right she doesn't really know what's going on she's just happy to be there and she's like oh my gosh Alexander Hamilton blah blah blah Angelica doesn't say anything about that she doesn't mention the fact that Alexander Hamilton is a bad guy because again there's kind of like this uh uh like symbiotic relationship that one gets if you're a skyler sister marrying one of the founding fathers right it's like you get a lot of uh uh like personal clout dating a skyler sister because like they are a part of the aristocracy they are rich like they're like they have like this this like name Skyler is a very important name around the time of 1776 around the time of the Revolutionary report right but also the uh uh the founding fathers also very important names and these are the guys that are really fighting like this this war right so now it's like uh for these two to be dating each other for these two to be marrying each other this is really important news right uh uh but it's also a game to Alexander right and that's that's the tough thing right now you're kind of you're kind of in this place of like oh man we're in the midst of the war what's going on right you have scenes where you have uh George Washington now George Washington is now a major character in this show he is going like hey like Alexander I've been told that you're like a really cool guy like Aaron B has kind of talked to you supposedly you guys keep meeting whatever blah blah blah blah right I want you on my side I want you doing these things I want you doing like X Y and Z for for the war right and it becomes a whole like like like Victory moment for Alexander Hamilton right where it's like oh man like I like this is now when I've made it because now I'm a part of the war I'm fighting the war I'm a general I'm a leader I'm helping them out right uh what ends up happening Stay With Me Now is Alexander Hamilton and Eliza uh now have a child right they're about to have a child right um so Alexander he's like oh man like all these things are happening whatever BL blah blah I don't know like what's going to happen in terms of like the War uh George Washington he's like like I like I need a I need a rightand man like I need someone on my side right like I need like something Alexander if you can't be there like oh God I don't know what I'm going to do right but Alexander like he's not a part of the of the Revolution for a little bit right and that's when you get guns and ships guns and ships is now the fastest song in the show that's indicative of the fact that like this is the most violent and like scary part of the war right you have all your major players like fighting right and and they're talking and they're like oh man what are we going to do right Lafayette is like kind of uh uh like leading the pack in this one right and he's going like I'm taking these horse like this horse feather RS making Red Coats red with blood stains right he like he's he's he's really cocky at this first part and he's like oh man like oh boom boom boom boom boom like I'm going to get him like I'm really like good at this like I know what I'm doing right I know that the war is seeming Bleak and that it's looking like we're not going to win but Alexander Hamilton like he like he does he like he he does a pretty like or sorry sorry sorry uh marqu de Lafayette he does a pretty good job at like kind of like hold everyone down right but then George Washington has this conversation with him and he's like hey what's happening what's going to happen like it doesn't it's not looking that good right and it's not looking that good it's really not looking that good for the revolution it's like I need like I need someone like I need uh who laughed uh I like he's like I I need a right-hand man right right-hand man is like this kind of like big important thing for George Washington in terms of like I like he can't do this alone the Revolutionary War was one as a collective and as like a group of people and Alexander Hamilton is one of those people right so they're like we need Hamilton sir like he knows what to do in a trench he's ingenuitive he's FL in French like he knows all these things like he knows what to do uh and go ahead and he's kind of like oh man going like we need him we need him right and then in in this part where it's like like it's been like the fastest the dialogue has been he kind of uh quiets down a little bit and he he uh uh gets gets a little more somber right and it's more somber part of the song he he he's kind of like expressing how he uh like really misses Alexander right and and he's like oh man like we need you the war's not going well like what are we going to do now around this time this is when I stopped listening to the soundtrack but you know what I can still figure it out generally right so I I assume Alexander Hamilton what's our time stamp at right now it's uh uh 34 minutes that's good time um I'm not even halfway um but Alexander Hamilton he now goes back into the war right and you kind of have your your whole like uh like oh man he's back like he's a right-hand man like he's going like boom boom boom boom boom right Battle of Yorktown Battle of Yorktown is a really important like uh uh like scene in the in the uh the first act because it's like the revolution war all this kind of stuff has been going up and like uh uh kind of kind of leading to what like Battle of Yorktown is going to be right it's like this is like the end of the war this is when it all happen this is what's going to happen right we have our major players all coming back they like oh Battle of York town like we got this around this like like we're like we are the revolution right you know what I'm saying um now it uh sorry let me think for a second Alexander Hamilton he's now doing a pretty decent job like uh fighting the war we now are told that uh not John Lawrence uh uh Mar left Hercules Mullan Hercules Mulligan is a man on the inside right he has been working with the British and kind of uh uh like talking with them and going like oh yeah like blah blah blah blah like uh the uh uh like I like I'm a man on the inside kind of in the way that like uh Arnold something something was but for America like it was a whole thing right but now we have a man uh what Benedict Arnold Benedict Arnold Benedict Arnold right um now this is really good news like we're really we're like we're really getting somewhere the Battle of York toown is inevitably W by the American people right now the American people they're all like they're all celebrating they're all having a good time they're all happy it's like oh good thank God like like we did right like this is like America is finally like like found its footing we finally did it and you'd think like Battle of Yorktown is when the show ends right uh Battle of Yorktown is not when even act one ends right uh this entire thing has kind of been leading to this idea that like oh like he's here because he wants to be part of the revolution wants a better life in America the American dream right the American dream is also another important thing because again he's tying back what the founding fathers were thinking to like what uh uh immigrant people and immigrant families are thinking when they immigrate to America right it's it's it's you know it's it's liand is a smart guy uh but it starts out and he's like oh Revolution like BL blah blah but there are a couple loose there are a couple things that are going wrong a couple things that are like oh man like I'm like a little iffy on un like what what going on right uh that's when you get to nonstop right nonstop is a song where you'd think like oh man like the whole thing's over but now it's like what do you do with America right because you finally won the war and you finally figured out all these things you're like oh man like uh emancipation like the British are gone like whatever all these things are happening but at the end of the day it's still like well now we got to run a country right who runs our country who are these people George Washington is obviously like uh figure number one he's the guy that's like pretty uh solid at uh like figuring like figuring this whole thing out right but as far as the rest of the cabinet goes we don't really know who the cabinet is right um but you know uh Alexander Hamilton there's a lot of treaties and a lot of things that are happening a lot of a lot of things that need to be written and Alexander Hamilton is writing nonstop this goes back to this idea that they mentioned in the first part of the show where he's like what is like my legacy going to be like what is like history going to say when our children tell our story they'll tell the story of tonight right these are things where it's like Hamilton's like like key motivation so that he wants to be remembered and he wants to be doing a good job for America so that the future can also be good right uh and around this time they set up all these things they're like oh like uh more stuff with the Skyler sisters o more stuff with like uh uh Aaron bur oh you know like more stuff with all these things right real scary times right but then non-stop ends there's a scene in Non-Stop it's my favorite scene in the whole in the whole thing where uh Alexander Hamilton because he's writing so much they're like oh you know he wrote like 51 different articles right he's uh uh writing on the uh uh uh the uh what what are they called like the not it's not Turn Style um the uh the spinning floor like there's the spinning floor right um he's walking on it and and he needs to like write on a table because he's like transitioning from his desk to like uh walking around like the Town Square uh and these two guys they grab like a piece of wood from like the side of stage and they just carry it like this onto like the tracks where Alexander Hamilton is and then he starts writing on the piece of wood as he's walking and it's it's it's such a cool scene you know because it kind of uses this idea of like oh they're building America and this idea that like Alexander Hamil used to write like it was a really interesting oh you're back uh so Alex Hamilton is now here he's doing his thing and and act one no you you do your intermission uh intermission is a part of a show where you you get a little break and around Hilton and and and with Hamilton it's such a long show I deserve one 16 so much has happened and you know it's important that that you get one right uh apparently in England during intermission they give you ice cream like it's customary that you that you get ice cream um I don't know how I feel about that is it a good intermission snack yes I I guess so it's just not a thing that they that they do here in America um but also on on the uh the flip side right who really won the war you know uh the British they don't do um play bills they don't have play bills uh they have play bills but you have to spend an extra like 10 20 bucks on them and I think that's unfair if I had to pick between like having a play Bill and having ice cream like the play bill is infinitely more important that will last me forever that's a that's a thing that I get to keep with me and take back home right at least that's how I see it what flavor ice cream uh it is vanilla and or chocolate uh pretty basic but pretty pretty good right um now it's a whole uh uh little little like tough decision here it's like do I like the West End cuz they giv I don't know uh America does not give you anything during intermission you can use the bathroom I guess and sometimes they have a bar I guess but it's like they have bars in the in the West End I'm sure and if I'm going to a Broadway musical for the bar like what am I doing with my life dog like that's you know um quick intermission so now start with act two right we don't really know like what's going on uh we like again like that's around the time when I stopped actively listening to the soundtrack it's a long soundtrack but act two happens right and now we have all these loose sets right it's like oh man like you're going to have a child like oh oh man like you got to write stuff oh you got to do all these things right um and now important things to know about act too there's a little bit of double casting right the guy that plays Mar Lafayette now plays um uh Thomas Jefferson right uh the guy that plays uh James Madison now plays Phillip his son and the guy that plays uh John Lawrence now plays someone else that's in the cabinet I forget his name uh but there there's like a whole bunch of a bunch of stuff that happens right now we get to what did I miss what did I miss is Thomas Jefferson's introduction right they they kind of go with this thing of like Oh Thomas Jefferson like you been like going around like you've been you've been doing all these things they make a joke about like the late ' 80s and how he's like you know just like going around all crazy right he's a really interesting and Ecentric guy right he goes down the stairs from like that top part of the uh uh of upstage down and he goes like what did I miss you know and it's like oh well you missed a lot it's like kind of ironic cuz like you know he missed like the whole Revolution work he was there obviously but it's like around this point like we haven't seen him so it's like we're catching him up he's catching us up on like what his activities and Adventures are right it uh becomes a whole a whole fun little thing and Alexander Hamilton now at this point he's um a little bit older right he's writing these things we're now at around like 18 uh 10 18 like I I I I really 1800 um but there's uh yeah so now he's writing he now has a child he now has philli his child he has Phillip with Eliza right um and Eliza is kind of taking care of Philip they wrote back and forth during the war of like oh yeah like like Philip whatever right we now we now see Philip as a young child and we're teaching him things uh like we're teaching him uh how to count how to count in uh French right it's like the whatever blah blah blah right now you guys are so mean now we're we're teaching Philip how to count to 10 and that's an important Motif uh counting 10 is a very important Motif in Hamilton Believe It or Not uh because 10 is the exact amount of Commandments in a duel right um now uh uh yeah like we hear all these things about Philip we go like oh yeah blah blah I'm going a little out of order but that's just CU like again I act two is kind of like right but um uh you get to you get to um um 10 dual Commandments right 10 dual Commandments uh they got this little Fanfare that happens right and they they describe the 10 uh Commandments for when having a duel like what is customary what you do like what the rules are how you win right now what happens in in a duel is two men stand like like back to back right and and you count to 10 it's like 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 nine and then on 10 you turn around you shoot right now there there are rules in place to make sure that things go well and to make sure that things are are like fair and just and and that no one's uh you know uh uh unfairly harmed in the duel the end of The Duel is obviously like someone's going to die but uh all these things are put in place I I fully do not remember any of the rules other than the fact that it's like you count to 10 um and you don't turn off if you turn before 10 it's like oh man like you're going to like like oh boy like that's not good right at the end of the day the other guy dies and it's not like you go to prison for it I guess like what do you go to prison for a duel I thought they shot you you follow the rules well it's all it's all but it's like a duel is not a thing written into our like American like uh like legal system this is just a thing that people did back before it was like when it was okay to shoot people I guess um unlike now unlike now when it's like not okay to shoot people but anyway like you're having all these things that happen uh we're kind of adjusting to the rules and now we have this idea of like oh America needs a national bank right there's this there's this fight between like this like National Bank uh and uh like not having one right I believe that I and I I got I need to take an American history class again but I believe that Alexander Hamilton was in favor of a national bank and Thomas Jefferson was not right cabinet battle number one cabinet battle number one is the two of them going like oh hey man like you [ __ ] suck dog um and the two of them are kind of arguing back and forth at the end of cabinet battle number one Alexander Hamilton drops the mic like that right I think he won right there's there's a a whole lot of stuff that's going on and we're kind of understanding like the general ideas of like what their core beliefs are what they're writing about and what they want the future of America to look like through a rap battle which is pretty cool which is pretty sick right um You you have you have your rap battle going on have the whole thing and uh what ends up happening around like uh like after the cabinet battle if I if I remember correctly God it's been so long um [ __ ] dude what happens after the cabinet battle um uh oh I guess I guess we can talk about this this new side plot that's happening Alexander Hamilton being like a stupid uh uh [ __ ] annoying ass uh cheater to his wife uh now alator Hamilton he goes on a little trip uh and he meets Mario Reynolds right and really weird scene happens where he's like tell me tell me how to say no to this I he like moans or something like ly man Miranda I think he moans somewhere in that song um but it's like a kind of weird right Marina Reynold is like uh uh married to this guy uh Alexander Hamilton was also married married to his wife obviously he has a kid right and now uh uh uh like that an affair right Alexander Hamilton when he comes back he he he like writes and this is so [ __ ] stupid he writes down the accounts of everything that happened in a pamphlet so that he can send it back to Maria Reynolds now it's one thing that he cheated awful horrible not good in the slightest but then he wrote it down and then just like put it into the postal system just like let it just let it into the into the cultural let it into the into the public um and this backfires a little bit later but we're not going to talk about that right now right now he is uh trying to figure out how um like the the the presidency is going to happen and then he's trying to figure out his bank right again he is writing non stop that's the name of the song from before he is writing so much he wants all these things to happen like he has these ideals for what America should be and like we we really don't know like what's going to happen to like the future of the country right um around this time Philip is getting a little bit older Philip uh uh you know he's just doing his thing he's like Dad like I want to be like you and I grow up like whatever BL blah there's a lot of there's a lot of stuff going on in terms of like the uh the uh uh like the the the future and the and the uh Bill of Rights and articles and Confederation and everything yeah uh now the Articles of Confederation happen and these are kind of an adjustment to what the original Constitution was saying right the Constitution had its General ideas and principles uh and the uh Bill of Rights is kind of like the first 10 commandments of the Constitution whatever I said Ten Commandments there it's not the Ten Commandments um um but uh uh what what what are the Articles the Articles from Confederation are just like uh ways and beliefs of how America should be run um now to any American history Buffs out there I may be getting a lot of this wrong and that's because all I remember about America uh around the time of the revolution war and a little bit afterward is either through Hamilton or through my AP US History Class back in junior year of high school in which I cheated on every single question of the final um and by cheated I mean I copy and pasted every single test question uh into Google and at some points uh Google text to speech rather than um but it's like uh you know what you're going to do right uh I think there's another cabinet battle I forget what this one's about but it might be about the presidency because um uh uh uh Thomas Jefferson he's he's running for for president now uh there there's another guy that runs for president in between and that's all explained in uh I I forgot to mention this part uh what comes next right uh what comes next is is whole like thing again from uh uh uh King George III where he's like what what's going to happen now America you're [ __ ] move dog like you don't know how to R run a [ __ ] country uh there's this John Adams guy like how is he gonna run our nation you know John Adams really John Adams is not important to this show which is why he's only mentioned in Exposition right um so I guess now it's like oh I guess you have like your your big contenders for who is going to be running the country right it's uh James Madison or not James Madison sorry Thomas Jefferson and Aron Burr Aaron bur is another person that's running right now uh Alexander Hamilton has been friends with Aaron Burr for years right he's the first person that he met over before the refu war there's like a whole bunch of history between the two of them just as friends as buddies and uh you know they're having this conversation of like hey like you got my back right it's like of course back it back but uh Thomas Jefferson has this meeting it's him his vice president and uh uh um um Alexander Hamilton and they have this conversation uh they're taking shots they're drinking my shot right uh they're doing these things and then having this conversation about like what the future of America might look like uh and this is after like cabinet battle number two I think right at this point it's it's become very clear that like Alexander Hamilton Thomas Jefferson have two very different ideas of what America should be uh but uh things are all all kind of up in the air as opposed to like what like things should end up looking like right so uh what ends up happening what ends up happening is they had the conversation and no one knows what that conversation looked like right uh there's a lot of historical uh conversation a lot of debate about like what happened in that room what the conversation was and Aaron Burr this person that has been narrating lot of this show has a whole little uh monologue and soloy about like all these things that are happening whatever blah right and he's like oh man like what just happened like they all got invited to a party without me like they're all hanging out and having drinks and all of a sudden it's like oh I guess they're all buds now right Hamilton is now with Aaron B's arch enemy in terms of like this election and he's now having conversation about all these things that are happening blah right Alexander Hamilton want uh uh is in the room where it happened it it's just like when his mind like changed right uh there's a lot of things that were just like uh kind of up in the air in terms of like how uh the war was going to be uh no sorry how the election was going to go out and then after all this happens Alexander Hamilton like after the conversation Alexander Hamilton goes up public and he goes like if I had to say like which uh uh like uh uh person being elected like which candidate I vouched for it would be Thomas Jefferson Aaron Burr has no values and at least Thomas Jefferson is like a cool guy crazy weird [ __ ] statement dog like your day one was Burr but like you know there's like there's like a whole bunch of [ __ ] you know you know oh man tough tough times uh I completely forgot about dear theod DOA um but it's it's so far into the thing I don't think I can like like mention dear theia anymore but dear Theodosia is another song sung by Aon ver this a little footnote it's another song sung by AER uh Theodosia is his daughter I think I again I don't know that much about this show uh or sorry I don't know much about American history let alone the American history explained in Hamilton but uh what happens next I I I think there's another song song about what what's their time what's the time stamp uh 55 minutes okay I got five minutes um there's another there's another um um song sung by the king and the king is like oh man like you [ __ ] like oh I got you I got you like what's going on you know um I think I don't remember I just know these things three songs um and then uh yeah around the time of the election right around these time the time that all these things are happening the uh the Reynolds pamphlet The pamphlet that uh Alexander Hamilton wrote to Maria Reynolds is found by Maria reynolds's husband right Maria Reynolds husband is now like oh my God you were cheating on me what the [ __ ] and the pamphlet is let out right Reynolds pamphlet happens everyone's like Alexander Hamilton he's never going to be president wait did he run for president wait oh [ __ ] Alexander Hamilton might have run for that might happened before that might have happened before okay so it's Alexander Hamilton the Reynolds pamplet happens he was running for president and now he can't because the Rey pamphlet and then he goes into the room where it happens he talks with Thomas Jefferson and and and and they have this conversation um uh uh uh I think that I think that's I think that's um but Thomas Jefferson is like it's you know now it's like he's running for president okay I've got it I've got it figured out I've got it understood I I I get it now so um was this now Philip Philip Hamilton's son you know he's now a little bit older he's a little bit older he's a little bit he is like uh uh he sees all these things that are happening he sees that Aron bur is like uh uh you know just like rebeling in his victory he's like oh man they going to be president now whatever blah blah blah right Philip challenges Aaron ver to a duel right and and now and now they go out this is this is like a whole thing right Eliza is already kind of like like you know really [ __ ] upset by the whole Hamilton cheated on her thing I would be too honestly I would have broken up with a [ __ ] but that's but you know what like it is what it is Philip you know he's he's he's only 19 his mind is older just just like Hamilton right and and he and he and he uh uh what is it yeah he goes into this duel right and he loses he loses to Aaron BD and and this is kind of uh representative of how Alexander Hamilton will be uh later on in the show in terms of like he he uh he will later fight Aaron bur in a duel right um now this whole thing with Philip happens Alexander is like oh my God Philip my boy right oh my God all these things are happening this is awful this is so this is so bad like oh no God like my son my boy right um and then what happens is is you're you're kind of brought into another little like um like monologue from Alexander Hamilton in the song uh hurricane hurricane kind of goes back to what uh his life was back when he was a kid right and and it ties like the events of his childhood into the events of like what happened like just now and he's like in the eye of a hurricane there's quiet for just a moment uh and and it's kind of it's kind of like you know when when his uh mother died when his father died something something uh he was nine right there's like a whole bunch of stuff that happened back when he was a child and it's like oh man like all these people have died in my life and now it's like all these like people are dying in his life Philip is dead Philip is dead like what do we do right it's a tough it's a tough conversation it's a tough time right um but what ends up happening now is uh take a shot every time I say what ends up happening now uh uh uh but yeah next series of events is it's like oh man like Aaron B you [ __ ] right Thomas Jefferson is already president all the things are kind of Happening Now Alexander Hamilton was a very old man right and by very old I mean I don't know like his like late 40s 50s uh it's it's back in the olden times so like that's an accomplishment you know uh he's like I like you [ __ ] Aaron bur like me and you in a jeel you and me in a jeel right now let's go let's go you and me right so then they have their duel right this is really this is really impactful CU like these are two people that have been friends since Alexander Hamilton was 19 years old when he was first joining the American Revolution right now all these things are happening right and Alexander Hamilton he does the duel and they count to 10 and before that before that 10 hits right you know pull it kind of like you know now now we're kind of stuck Frozen to time right Alexander Hamilton has another monologue right he's not singing there's no real music playing in the background he just he just does his thing right he he has all these motifs and things that have happened throughout the course of his life over the course of like him moving to America and making a name for himself and writing all these things and he talks about his shot and he talks about how he rose up and he talks about all these things and he talks about how in the eye of a hurricane there's fight for just just a moment and that is that is his here it's like right before he dies he sees his entire life and what his life meant and he's trying to understand like what the history of like his his life is right uh and he stands there and he's like I'm finally I'm finally like content with death Aaron bur bullet shoots boom he's dead H and dies um and this is a somber moment for uh for for the show I I I started crying personally um but uh yeah it ends on this on this song Who Lives who dies who tells their story this goes back to that original idea set in story uh tonight in which uh the the the big the big like Crux of the show is like you do all these things because you want to be remembered as an important figure and as an important person in history like you wrote like 51 different articles so that you could better the future of America you did all these things you uh uh started the National Bank you started all these things like you did all like x y and z it's a whole it's a whole like uh uh there's just so much that happened and at the end of the day Alexander Hamilton is not is not recognized for those things up until the point of Hamilton actually being made he is a forgotten hero of the American dream right um and who lives who dies who tells their story is from the perspective of uh what many argue to be Eliza and uh uh it's it's it's her singing most of the things the whole ensemble sings the song right who lives who dies who tells her story uh and at the end at the end of the thing uh Eliza looks directly in the audience Spotlight in front of her she walks into the spotlight and then she gasps she she looks around and she gasps and then light's cut um now as to what that ending means a lot of people have debated but uh what my interpretation is and what the interpretation of many is is that Eliza sees that ly man Miranda has made a show about the life of her and her husband Alexander Hamilton and thinks to herself it is years in the future and the people are now coming to see a show about my life someone and and and she at this point in time thought that she was not going to be one of the people that was remembered and now she is thank you uh this was anything could be a podcast with Taylor cago I'm Taylor cago anything could be a podcast and uh don't forget uh uh next time you go to a Broadway show bring some ice cream [ __ ] a oh no
