Tutorial on Threshold and Gaussian Blur Effects

Hey guys, hope you're all doing well today. I'm going to show you how to create this nice effect only using threshold and Gaussian blur Let's get to it Okay, let's start I just created the document in a size of 3200 to 4200 and I just typed in this keel and to start the In fact what we are going to need is that I will open up the illustrator you can also do this in your Photoshop but I'm going to explain why we are doing it here so I would just select a line tool and create a line here and just simply hold alt and drag it down like so and after that after dragging one time you can just simply hit command d and hold on command d and it will create lots of copies for you here I would just select all of them expand them a little bit a little bit more that is nice I would just select all and hit command C to copy and on my Photoshop I would click on command V to paste it and here it will give you an option and I would just paste it as a smart object here and rotate it like so and make it bigger so as you can see this is our lines but now i want my uh lines to be a little bit thicker so what i would do is that I would just simply hit on this smart object I will double click on the thumbnail and it will open up in my illustrator then I can just select all the lines and just from up here I would just make them thicker by four points so after that I would just close the smart object file here and click on save and when i get back to the photoshop as you can see it made them a little bit thicker i would just make them a little bit bigger also then after that i would open up a threshold here a new layer and from there i would just try to convert my text or letter to a smart object. Make sure that you're putting the threshold on top of all the other layers. I would just go to the typography that I have here, just the letter Q and... go to the filter blur and Gaussian blur and as you can see now you're almost having a little bit of a effect here and you can just change the Gaussian blur so as you can see I'm going to lose some details I would just simply put it around 56 that is nice I believe and also for the lines I will do the same I will go to the blur Gaussian blur and I will just Get around I believe three is fine for now, maybe even more yeah this is giving me a nice effect i'll just give it a five so there are lots of things you can do here after you have added your gaussian blur the first things you can do is that just change the slider of your threshold so that it will just change the effect like so as you can see it's changing the effect so i want to give it around something like here maybe yeah then also on the letter uh on the letter layer you can just simply change The Gaussian blur, you know, I'm increasing it and I'm getting this nice effect. One more thing you can do is that you can just simply decrease the opacity of your layer. So now I'm having different type of style here. So I'm just gonna move it around and see what I like the most with these settings. Yeah, so I believe this is nice. We are also having some... lines here i'm just gonna remove that by changing my threshold and the blur here that i got yeah so when you increase the Gaussian blur of the lines it will give you a thicker lines and when you decrease it as you can see you're having thinner lines after that to just finishing up everything i would just add a gradient map and for the text i want it to be blue for the background I want it to be black. Yeah I believe that is amazing after that I would just simply hit command shift option E to create a merge layer of all the layers and I would just simply go to the filter noise and add noise to just crank up that is like so and as you can see we have this nice effect also one more thing is that i'm just gonna hide this merge layer one more thing i wanted to explain about the love is that the reason I use illustrator is this so I would just simply double click on the vector smart object the lines will bring you the line here I would just select all of them I would do a command G to group them and then go to the effect warp and I would just give it a wave so as you can see it is now having some waves to it I will just simply click OK on it so this is the lines now and I would just simply save the file and go back to the photoshop and as you can see we have different type of styles now so now when i just simply you know change the threshold you can see your you will have some different styles here you can again you know change all the settings and the numbers to just get whatever the effect you're looking for so I'm just gonna create one more example using the photos I'm going to create something like this so I created a new document and I added these photos this photo of a woman floating in air and this photo of Sun first thing I'm gonna do here is that I'm going to invert the Sun photo to have the lights here and the darkness on the Sun itself and we are good to start first things first just remember that you will convert all the layers to the smart object then i will simply copy and paste these lines that we had copy them here make sure to copy all these lines as a smart object and also It's gonna rearrange this file here a little bit That is good. Just gonna create a threshold on top and we're good to start with the whole Effects so on the under let me just rename all the layers here is Sun here is woman Floating here is line and on the Sun layer I'm going to go to the filter blur and Gaussian blur and I'm gonna give it a around going to be smaller yeah around 3.5 is nice and on the woman floating layer I'm just gonna give it a 4.1 give it a little bit of effect and on the line layer also i will just also give it around 8.7 is nice because i'm having these small details here and these big details here i like that and also for the threshold i'm going to put it on I believe 126 is nice so for the sound layer again I'm going to change the opacity to reveal the details and I believe 75 is nice for the woman I'm just gonna do the same and 76 I believe is nice maybe a little less 601 is nice Also for the lines you don't need to change it because you will lose the details here So I myself like those details in here. So I'm just gonna keep it on hundred and on top of everything I'm just going to add a threshold sorry a gradient map and then just choose the colors like so now you're having something like this but when you compare it to the main file you can see these noises here and it is giving us a nice face so that's why I'm going to use texture that I got from design syndrome free pack and I'm just gonna put it there and put it on screen bring the opacity a little bit down also i will just create another layer below the texture and above the all the other layers i'm gonna name it noise we just go to the edit filter 50 gray and i will just add a noise to it so just crank up the noise like so and I would just simply put it on oh yeah I would just put it on overlay so there is a difference here if you put this noise layer on top of your threshold it will look like this so the noise is affecting inside the white areas and the orange areas so if you just bring it down and put it below the threshold effect you can see it is actually affecting the whole document and it is giving us that effect but now as you can see there are lots of you know noisy areas so I'm just gonna bring down the opacity of it to around 70 or maybe 60 or you can just simply delete this layer and create another noise layer here below the threshold do the same process and from here put it on overlay then go to the filter noise and add noise and now you can see whenever you just change the amount of noise so i believe this is nice and for the last thing i will just uh simply add these to typography or whatever you like here and I'll just place them above the gradient map just make it a little bit smaller here like so hope you like the tutorial make sure to like and subscribe and peace
