the month you know that every other Sunday we don't uh receive an offering but just the first time of the month we pass a basket and we encourage people to give and and one thing we want to start uh today and today is the beginning of our new fiscal years every month we want to share with you a verse a scripture verse on giving because giving is an act of worship um and uh so so today's theme or this month's theme is generosity and our verse for the month is 2 Corinthians 9:7 so I wanted to read that for you it should be on the screen as well and APLE Paul writes each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give not reluctantly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful Giver there's four things that stand out to me there and when the words should give the Paul is implying we should give um I lost my notes there you go thank you we should give um at Mount View we talk about equal sacrifice unequal gifts however God has blessed us we all will give differently and yet we should give equally sacrificially gener generously second this says what you have decided and this is important you know this is between you and God this isn't between you and Pastor guy at Mountain View that pastors and Elders don't know what individuals give or their amounts they give but but you know God knows and God sees so what you have decided to give that God has spoken to you about because giving is an act of worship third thing not reluctantly or under compulsion that's why we don't don't pressure people to give we don't twist your arm to give because God calls you to give not reluctantly nor under compulsion but uh as God leads you and then lastly for God loves a hilarious Giver that's the Greek word a cheerful Giver that that when we give how do I know that my giving is an act of worship I know my giving is an act of worship when I give I'm happier because I did give does that make sense if I'm sadder and more upset because I gave I did not give biblically I did not give as an act of worship and so let's keep this in mind this month each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give not reluctantly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful Giver so as we as the ushers come forward as we receive the offering now there's a number of ways you can give obviously you can give in the basket today if you're probably under 25 you don't know how to do that you don't know what cash is you've never seen pennies or coins or anything or even $500 bills but you can give we have donation boxes by the way if you ever know we always say there in the back actually there's one on the side way over there and there's two in the back you can text to give to the number on the screen you can go online our website and recurrently give or you can mail in a check but is if God has led you to give something today you can text right now you can put something in the basket but remember um it's between you and God and God sees and it's an act of worship let's pray so Lord right now I pray that you would continue to revolutionize our heart towards giving we know that your work needs funds but you own it all and Lord as we begin the first Sunday of our fiscal year God would you help us not only to meet our budget but exceed it so we can do some more amazing things would you speak to each one of us today we know that we cannot out of can be seated [Music] [Music] well good morning again well today as we come to the middle section of the Book of Micah which we started last week uh we come to a discussion of government you guys excited about this government I know many of you are uh into the government you've taken courses you went to high school and you just love studying government but as many of you know as you know we have three branches of our government we have the legislative branch which makes laws we have the executive branch which enforces laws and we have the judicial branch which interprets laws but we have a system of checks and balances in our country that that each branch separate but equal can check on the other for example the legislative branch can check on the executive branch by impeaching the president or refusing to appropriate funds for his programs or they can check on the judicial branch by proposing amendments to the constitutions as they've done with the 13th and 14th and 15th amendment the executive branch can check on the legislative branch by vetoing laws passed by Congress of course Congress can come back if there's a two-thirds majority in both the house and the Senate they can override those veto of the president all the checks that we have is amazing the executive branch can check the judicial by appointing justices and issuing Pardons and even the judicial branch as weak as it is can check on a legislative branch by um declaring laws passed unconstitutional and removing them from laws or even the executive branch by declaring executive acts as unconstitutional we have this it was not a great summary of our government okay maybe it wasn't so good but anyway I spent hours online last night trying to think of all this stuff we have checks and balances for one reason Justice I pledged allegiance to the flag of the United States of America to its Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all and if you read the 52w preamble to the US Constitution there are five objectives outlined and the first objective was not to ensure domestic tranquility or to fund our common defense the first objective of the five was what to establish justice we want Justice in our country because we're afraid of the abuse of power we do not want a tyrannical leader and that's why we have these checks and balances but what if all three branches of the government went corrupt then you got a problem enter Micah the prophet he faces a totally corrupt government in Judah and he has to speak and he writes today what is the solution to Injustice in our world stand with me and let's read from Micah chap 1 verses 1 to four Micah writes and I said here you heads of Jacob and rulers of the House of Israel is it not for you to know Justice you who hate the good and love the evil who tear the skin from off my people and their flesh from off their bones who eat the Flesh of My People and Flay their skin from off them and break their bones in pieces and chop them up like meat in a pot like flesh in a cauldron then they will cry to the Lord but he will not answer them he will hide his face from them at that time because they have made their deeds evil Micah is really into it right now isn't he he's got something to say you may be seated I'm going to try to cover three chapters of Micah today and please forgive me we do not have time to come cover every verse but we're going to touch on each of three chapter three is man's unjust Kingdom it's all bad news chapter four though we see God's just Kingdom in chapter 5 we see the way we can have a just Kingdom because we have a good and just King God's good and just King first man's unjust Kingdom chapter three and this brings us as we study the subject to the oft asked question of why if there's a loving God does he permit evil and suffering in the world that's usually the number one question I think in 20 24 especially among teenagers and college studs and young people today they're not asking the question why does a loving God allow suffering there's ask why is there so much Injustice in the world and they will even say why doesn't the church speak out against Injustice that's their thing well 2700 years ago the church did speak out against Injustice that is the prophet the prophets spoke out against Injustice and the there is much Injustice the world how do we talk about this and what is the solution let's first look at the rebuke in chapter three begin verse one I said here you heads of Jacob and rulers of the House of Israel is it not for you to know Justice here Begins the second Oracle chapter one he said here there's three sermons in the Book of Micah we now come to the second Oracle the second sermon chapters 3 to 5 and then we get to chapter 6 vers1 we see the words hear or listen again we're in the second one here is it not for you to know Justice now Jacob and Israel here I believe are synonyms for the entire nation of Israel again like I said last week mic is primarily concerned the sins of the Southern Kingdom but overall the entire nation the 10 tribes of the north the two the South together they did not know Justice sin in the capital city of Samaria and sin in the southern city of Jerusalem has now spread to the rural areas in the surrounding Villages and what troubled micel more and even God more was that there was sin in the courts there was sin in the Palaces with the Kings and there was sin in the temples with the priests and then later by extension the prophets the politicians got their way in the courts the judges were paid for the destruction of justice and Prophets also benefited by this Arrangement and supported these corrupt governments and so the word that ties the whole chapter together together we see in verse one and 8 and N is the word justice justice is all over the Old Testament he says that justice has departed from Judah heads and rulers I believe here he's talking about perversion in the courts and these justices were probably leaders of houses back then leaders of houses or families were considered justices now what we have to acknowledge though is that Justice is hard to maintain it's easier to establish a just law than to maintain a just law and why is that why is the world so unjust I think the answer is the root of it is the hearts of people that all people are sinners and we're born Sinners and we have sinful Hearts As Romans 3:23 says for all sinned and fall short of the glory of God before Society can be unjust you have to have Sinners sinful people who are unjust it is Sinners that make up Society over the years recently phrases like defund the police and what not have been thrown out and saying that there's systemic corruption in police departments not just in Minneapolis but all over the country but is that really the case and how do we how do we view that I think we have to be very careful to judge on these these matters because we all sin do we not we have if if if there is a worker in a business who sins does that mean the business owner and the whole business is corrupt if there's a pastor Who falls does that mean the entire denomination is corrupt if there's a parent who who sins and and doesn't parent rightly doesn't mean all parents are corrupt as you know I'm a parent of seven children and I'm the only perfect parent I've ever known to be honest I've got seven kids um I'm going to just give you a hypothetical hypothetically let's say one day 25 30 years ago it was a long time ago that my oldest at age eight disobeyed mom or dad or did something wrong or sinned and I as a loving parent have to discipline her and so I discipline it's called punish her next week my second oldest does the same thing and I discipline her but I'm either harsher on her than the first child or I'm softer on her than the first child let's say I'm softer on her why am I softer than her because maybe I'm a good parent maybe I looked back last week and actually you don't know it I went and apologized to my oldest child and said you know what I was a little too harsh with you yes you shouldn't have done that but I came down too hard would you please forgive me and now I've learned my lesson and so now I parented my second kid better than my first but my first like but Dad you weren't fair that's unjust was I really unjust or was I never unjust I mean that's the question I think I was just unless my intent was unjust I'm just trying my best right I'm just trying my hardest to be a good dad and I'm going to make mistakes you parents are going to make mistakes do you learn from your mistakes our world is full of Sinners every Pastor is a sinner every politician is a sinner every police officer is a sinner every business owner is a sinner we all sin as well as make mistakes in our lives and our professions but just because one worker sins or a number of workers sin doesn't mean an entire business is corrupt or an entire police department is corrupt or an entire denomination is corrupt because one pastor fall unless of course you can prove it right and Micah 2700 years ago says I can prove it our government is corrupt the judges are corrupt the politicians are corrupt and the priests and Prophets are corrupt and that's what the book of Mike is about he's saying there was systemic corruption in the land of Judah and that's what he writes let's move on he says here in verse two you who hate the good and love the the evil who tear the skin off my people and their flesh off their bones that's quite a rebuke remember he's targeting heads and rulers he's saying they tear the skin and eat the flesh their justices are perverting Justice they're acting like wild beasts we have an image of cannibalism here they're feeding on those as their responsibility to defend worse than this is worse than chapter two as we looked at last week because there the rich were taking from the vulnerable the poor the women and children but here they're attacking the people themselves and what is the Judgment verse four one day they're going to cry out to the Lord for help but he's going to say I'm not listening there's three answers to prayer yes wait and no and this one's going to be definitely n o no because I am going to judge you as I said last week the northern Kingdom in Micah's day in 722 BC was deported by Assyria and 100 years from now in Micah's day later in 586 BC Judah will be judged and they will go off into exile for 70 years to the land of Babylon my truth I want to share today is kingdoms the kingdoms of men will fail and fall all the kingdoms of men will fail and fall but the coming coming kingdom is on his way the coming kingdom is on his way verse five he gives a judgment on the prophets thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who lead my people astray these are the spiritual leaders who cry peace when they have something to eat but declare war against him who puts nothing into their mouths therefore it shall be night to you without vision and darkness to you without divination the sun shall go down and the prophets and the day shall be black over them the Sears shall be disgraced the diviners put to shame they shall all cover their lips for there is no answer from God but as for me as mic as for me I'm filled with power with the spirit of the Lord and with Justice and might to declare to Jacob his transgression and Israel his sin Micah is not complaining that the pro the prophets of his day were silent they were speaking but their speaking was leading people astray they prophesied peace oh God isn't going to judge us when there was no peace and they prophesied Prosperity when their city was about to fall and not only were their words wrong their hearts and their intentions were wrong they did it for money verse 5 they ate while the people did not eat and they only prophesied what the Kings and the other leaders wanted to hear in that day there was we call a theocracy there was no separation of church and state Kings and Prophets linked together of course that's no longer the case under the New Covenant and now in the United States of America we are not a theocracy we should never try to be a theocracy because that's going to be a huge mistake we're a democracy where pastors and preachers are important but as a pastor and a preacher I have to be very careful not tode with one political party or one candidate why because I know for me as soon as I cross that line I'm going to drift and I'm going to lose my focus my calling is to make followers of Jesus not followers of men way back when we started the church I remember 1998 right before we started our new Elder board our first Elder board there was a discussion and topic of sermons came up and and um Charlie bur is one of our first elders and he's now 92 and he's still with us and Charlie said me I there's I've been in 500 Elder meetings and I hardly remember anything but I remember these words he said guy just teach the Bible and I've never forgotten that 27 years later just teach the Bible it's hard it was hard to be a prophet 2700 years ago it's hard to be a preacher today my calling is to teach the word of God whether people want to hear it or not and the challenge in 2024 and I if you know we're four weeks away from election I think we are um is everything's gotten so political so for me the hard thing for me can can I be honest with you guys is that Vince can I be honest with you thank you Vince even though you're a Cowboys fan I love you um you guys are corrupt that whole that whole football team's corrupt that football team is not America's team but anyway let's move on just teach the Bible see when I get off I get in trouble I get in trouble that's what happens you get off you get in trouble so example I could say like I did last week that we need to take care of refugees and immigrants why did I say that because the Bible says that I mean it's very clear the Bible says that and Judah wasn't doing that but then someone could say well I know who Pastor Guy's political candidate is or whose political party he's SED with well not necessarily or I could say we should take care above and protect The Unborn as I have for years that life begins at conception that means with every pregnancy there are always two lives not one and having said that you could assume that I'm expecting you to vote for a certain political party or a certain political candidate and not necessarily or let's say I say I haven't taught this lately but if we get we go to the the Book of Genesis and I say we should teach on creation care that we should be good stewards of creation as we should be and someone could say I knew Pastor guy was leaning with that political party or that political candidate not necessarily I'm just trying to teach the Bible that's all I'm trying to do I'm not a politician I'm not even an activist I'm just a pastor and I want to be a pastor for everybody my calling isn't necessarily to tell you who to vote for but who to live for to live for Jesus and you're smart enough to figure the rest out remember my point today though the kingdoms of men fail and fall the kingdom of God is coming though the kingdoms of men fail and fall the kingdom of God is coming back in Micah's day under Theocratic government some of the politician prophets were in League with the King and Micah had to call them out because that was his duty as he say in verse 8 I filled with the spirit of the Lord and my calling Micah says is to cry out for justice he Now talks about the rulers verse n hear this you heads of the House of Jacob and rulers of the House of Israel who detest Justice and make crooked all that is straight who build Zion with blood and Jerusalem with iniquity its heads give judgment for a bribe its priests teach for a price this prophets practice divination for money what is wrong with these prophets anyway yet they lean on the Lord and say is not the Lord in the midst of us no disaster shall come upon us therefore Because of You Zion shall be plowed as a field Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins the mountains of the house a wooded height where verses 1 to four that we looked at spoke of perversion the courts this I think may speak of and I'm follow the outline of Dr James Montgomery Boyce pastor of Church attended in the 80s this is referring to a different kind of leadership a political perversion addressing the administr administrators of Justice he's addressing those who are responsible to oversee and administrate Justice and he says they detest Justice imagine the the leaders detesting Justice making crooked all that is straight verse 9 not only had the judge judges and the prophets gone astray but the politicians and government officials were involved in Distortion and they were to brain order but they were not overseeing the country well they allowed the prophets to tickle people's ears for money and they used religion and Justice to meet their own ends the whole system was corrupt and so God had no other choice and Micah said therefore verse 12 Zion shall be plowed as is a field Jerusalem become a heap of ruins in the mountain of the house a wooded height and a 100 years later that's exactly what happened and the good news was little bit of History lesson through Micah's preaching a new king came up Hezekiah who listened to him and he led a reform for 40 some years and delayed the Judgment but then his son took over and everything went bad again and 100 years later The Babylon will come in and destroy the the city destroy the temple burn down every house and take them away that's what happened and I think so how does this apply to me I think for us is number one just be a just person be a merciful person don't be a greedy person be a generous person and if you're a business owner don't make it about money but make it about Ministry on Thursday morning I was invited to with a group of men uh business owners some were young in their 20s just starting off others were older in their 60s almost 70 and they have had successful businesses and we talked we watched some lessons I was the only Pastor I didn't know anything there you know and we're talking and basically at the end of the day it was about how can a person a man or woman who's a business owner and a Christian not only have a successful business but use their business is to minister to their employees as well as other people because if an employee suffers how can they provide a safety net to care for their employee as well as minister to all of their customers if you are a CEO if you are a boss if you are a business owner Your Role is to set the culture for your company so go home and pray and ask God what is your vision and mission for my business whatever that is it's not to be greedy it's to be generous and to be a blessing to others judah's leaders didn't ask God for that they created an unjust culture and their Kingdom fell it sounds Blake and it was then but what is the hope for us there's a hope and the hope is in chapter four and five chapter four is God's just Kingdom let's jump there verse one now shall come to pass in the latter days the last days which I believe were inaugurated with Jesus's death and resurrection and Ascension that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains and shall be lifted up above the hills the people shall flow to it and many nations shall come and say come let us go up to the mountain of the Lord to the house of the god of Jacob that he may teach us his ways that we may walk in his paths for out of Zion shall go forth the law and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem verse three and he shall judge between many peoples and shall decide disputes for strong Nations far away and they shall beat their swords and the plowers what a great verse and their Spears and de pruning hooks Nation shall not lift up sword against Nation neither shall they learn War anymore but they shall sit every man under his Vine and under his fig tree who's got a fig tree here this morning anybody got a fig tree oh okay I'm very impressed okay I'm going to get one of those and no one shall make them afraid for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken I love Fig Newton let's continue on for all the peoples walk each in the name of its God but we will walk in the name of the Lord Our God forever and ever I do believe the last days began when Jesus rose and ascended to heaven and what Micah speaks about in verses 2 to 5 though is yet to be fulfilled it won't be fulfilled until God's good and just King returns but let's look at some features of his just Kingdom there's four James Boyce in his sermon lays these four out let me repeat those you number one freedom of ignorance of God's laws verse two said out of Zion shall go forth the law and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem we will no longer be ignorant of the word of God so that's why everybody listen you got to read the whole Bible I know it's a big book because there's 66 of them in there I still can't find Micah every time I look for where is the book and I eventually find it the Old Testament is so relevant we apply it a little differently but we got to know God's book because that truth is in that book all the truth and nothing but the truth second Freedom From War they shall beat their swords into plowshares and the Spears and pruning hooks Nations shall not lift up sword against Nation neither shall they learn war war in 2024 seems to be everywhere doesn't it the coming Kingdom there will be no war amen let's let's thank God for that no war in the coming kingdom of God until he returns there will be War it's just the way it's going to be third freedom from want they shall sit every man under his fig and under under his Vine and under his fig tree I think Freedom from Want means that all the resources that go into war will be turned to other ends and forth Freedom From Fear and no one shall make them afraid for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken no ignorance no war no want no no fear what a beautiful thing that'll be don't you want to live in that Kingdom and you can when the king returns when the king returns let's look at chapter five God's good and just King verse two but you oh Bethlehem EPA were're too little to be among the clans of Judah from you shall come forth for me one who ruler in Israel whose coming forth is from of old from ancient days and he shall stand in Shepherd's flock and the strength of the Lord in the Majesty of the name of the Lord his God and they shall dwell secure for now he shall be great to the ends of the Earth and he shall be their peace this is a Messianic prophecy EPA was an older name for Bethlehem or it was the name of the area around Bethlehem and Beth was an insignificant small town located about 5 miles from Jerusalem David King David was born there and Micah says the Messiah will be born in Bethlehem if you have a friend who's Jewish ask him so has the Messiah been born if not where is he to be born in Bethlehem and he will be a ruler a ruler in Israel we we see the two sides of the Messiah the one side Messiah is he's a ruler he is mighty he is strong he can enforce his laws he is all powerful and he will rule righteously unlike many of judah's Kings notice his coming forth is from of old from ancient days coming forth means his going out it doesn't say as micer writes in 700 BC his going out will be from 500 BC or 200 BC his going out will be not even from 6 BC when many scholars believe Jesus was born in 6 BC he doesn't even say he says his going out will be from ancient times from immeasurable days he's saying his going forth he came he's older than me even though he has been born how is someone who has not been born yet older than the man who writes about him and he will Shepherd his flock the second side he's a ruler beware of rulers who are not Shepherds beware of shepherds who cannot rule he will be will stand and Shepherd his flock in the strength not of himself but of the Lord he will be a Shepherd King the people then will dwell secure he'll give you outer peace peace from your enemies and he will be their peace come unto me Jesus said all who weary and are heavy laden and I will give you rest he will give you inner peace who might this be when the Magi came looking for the star and Herod said to the tribes the chief priests so where is this me all who are weary and heavy lad and I will give you rest if this is not a prophecy of Jesus who could this be know it seems improbable that we will ever have such a king but we will and I believe Mike is pointing out that Jesus is that King the good and the just King he's our King now for Christians in his spiritual Kingdom in his invisible Kingdom as he builds his church and one day he will be king over all the world over his physical Kingdom and he will set up his kingdom and his kingdom will reign forever and ever the original question why is there some much Injustice in the world because we are living in the times of men and the times of man's Kingdom the kingdoms of men will fail and fall but the kingdom of God is coming the kings of men will fail and fall but the kingdom of God is coming amen and it is coming and I don't know when that full consummation of his kingdom will come it could be today it could be tomorrow it could be a thousand years from now do not lose heart because God is patient he's unwilling for anyone to perish but for all to come to repentance and he's slow about when he comes because he's waiting for that last person to come to him maybe you are that hold out and because of you we're still waiting for Jesus to come today maybe if you stop holding out on Jesus Jesus and you repent of your sin you realize today that like me you are a sinner who's fallen short of the glory of God and you've plad for the grace and mercy of God and put your faith in Jesus Christ he will save you spiritually and one day he will save all of us and redeem our bodies physically when he comes and sets up his kingdom on this Earth the kingdom of men fail and fall the kingdom of God is coming as the worship team comes up that's going to be a just Kingdom with a just King with only just people and until then what do we do we apply Micah 68 for he has told you oh man what is good and just what does the reward the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love mercy and walk humbly with your God do justice love Mercy walk humbly with your God that is what he requires of you and of me one day the lion will lie down with the lamb the sword will be beaten into plow shares every man and woman will lie under their fig tree and no one will be afraid again and as handles Messiah goes and he shall reign and he shall reign forever ever and ever hallelujah hallelujah amen and the all guys people said amen let's stand and let's pray and let's give the glory to God today maybe you are the hold out maybe you are the whole out and you're thinking well tomorrow I'm going to come to Jesus no tomorrow may not come for any of us have you invited Jesus to come into your heart to save you from your sins because you know today that you cannot measure up to the holy standard of a just and perfect God but Jesus died on the cross to meet that standard of a perfect God will you call on him right now and say Jesus I need you to save me if that's for you today you don't need to raise your hand or walk the aisle or do push-ups or anything right now in your heart make this prayer yours in your heart say something like this Lord God maker of heaven and Earth I'm sorry I've blown it I've fallen short and I need you I don't deserve to go to heaven I can't work my way into heaven but thank you Jesus you died for my sins on the cross and Rose from the grave and I believe in you and I love you and right now I open up my heart and surrender it to you would you save me a s come in my life change my heart and help me to follow you just the best I can in your name I pray amen if you made that commitment today tell somebody tell a loved one a friend a family member Pastor just tell somebody and go open your Bible and read the book of John chapter 3 read it three times today for God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not what perish but have eternal life what a gift from the good and just King right here in Nana in Frederick in Frederick County and even in Mami County okay it will be an evening of games different fall themed events and so much more so please mark the date on your calendar it will be a great time to serve and help reach our community in a new way if you don't want to serve I'd ask that you invite someone to come and enjoy an evening with us how many of you are going to you who orders and directs us steps daddy this week we lean on you and not our own understanding thatd we trust in you Lord and we believe that whatever the circumstances may be in our lives you will bring Deliverance heavenly father thank you Lord that that we are lifting up our eyes to the hills we know where our help comes from our help comes from you almighty God the maker of the heavens and
