Ontario Driver's Regulations and Safety Guidelines

Parking Regulations

  • Fire Hydrants: Maintain a minimum distance of 3 meters from fire hydrants when parking.
  • School Buses: Stop at least 20 meters from a school bus with flashing red lights.

Driver's License Usage

  • Lending: It is illegal to lend your driver's license to anyone.
  • G1 and G2 Drivers:
    • G1 must always be accompanied by a fully licensed driver.
    • G2 drivers face penalties if caught drinking.

U-Turn Regulations

  • Prohibited Conditions:
    • Curves or hills with a view of less than 150 meters.
    • Near railway crossings and bridges.

Passing and Lane Changing

  • Passing Cyclists: Maintain at least 1 meter distance.
  • Lane Changing: Always signal and check mirrors and blind spots.

Speed Limits

  • General: Maximum speed is 80 km/h where unspecified.
  • Night Driving: More dangerous due to limited visibility.

Road Signs

  • No U-Turn: Prohibits turning in the opposite direction.
  • Yield Sign: Slow down and yield right of way if necessary.
  • Stop Sign: Complete stop and proceed when safe.

Safety Requirements

  • Seatbelts: Mandatory for all drivers and passengers.
  • Child Car Seats: Failure to provide results in fines and demerit points.
  • Headlights: Turn on between half an hour before sunset and half an hour after sunrise or when visibility is poor.

Emergency Procedures

  • Accidents: Must report to police if damage exceeds $2,000 or if there are injuries.
