Navigating IIT-JEE Challenges and Opportunities

If you're someone who's preparing for IIT-JEE very seriously, someone who's pouring their blood, sweat, tears into studying and giving exams every single day, someone who sacrifices their friends, family and hobbies and just met IIT-JEE as your end goal, listen to me carefully for the next 5 minutes and you'll understand why I'm exactly telling you that IIT-JEE should not be your dream. I'm going to open your eyes and give you a reality check today. Because we're in 2024 and IITs are not the same anymore.

The placements at IITs have been constantly declining. Over 30% of IITs are jobless this year. year.

Yet the competition of IIT-JEE has become all-time high. The IITians in the core branches are struggling to get jobs while your favorite coaching teachers are earning in crores of rupees. Like what is happening?

Does this mean that you should stop preparing for IIT-JEE? Let's find out. First things first, let's look at the job market, the startups, the research that happens in India.

And you'll see that IITians are at the top of each of these things. Usually, IITians during placements get paid 10-30% more for the same role in the same company when compared to a normal student from a regular college. A lot of Indian unicorns have at least one of its founders as IITians. And over 30% of research papers that get produced are from the 23 IITs present in India. And this is actually insane and these are some of the few reasons why IITs are considered some of the best, I mean the best colleges in India.

But as every coin has two sides, and even though IITs are considered one of the topmost institutes of India, it doesn't mean there's no bad side of IITs. Usually more than 15% IITians don't even get placed every year. And this year, more than 35% of IITians did not even get placed.

But most of these coaching institutes don't talk about it. because they don't want the hype to die. They don't want the students exploring other options because if they do, their business will suffer. And the worst part, even if some students actually start exploring other things, they are put into a very bad mental state, being told that they're wasting time if they don't come back and start studying for IIT-JEE again.

But let me tell you the truth. IIT is not your life. IIT is just a road towards success and is not equal to success.

Studying in an IIT can make you 10 times more confident and knowledgeable when compared to studying in a normal college. And that's not just because of the professors at IITs, but it's exactly because of the hardworking students who end up at IITs. Like if we just rewind back, studying for IIT-JEE and studying in IITs used to serve two different purposes back in 1990s and 2000s.

Because cracking IIT-JEE is a battle with yourself. It teaches you skills like patience, problem solving, logical thinking, consistency, dedication, the ability to not give up, the ability to fail, fail, fail and still not give up. The whole purpose of IIT-JEE preparation is an internal battle with yourself and to become a warrior.

But studying in IITs is not the same. It will actually teach you the people skills. It will teach you how to communicate better. It will teach you how to make friends, ideate as a group, become the leader and so much more. But the problem is this is 2024 and we should always adapt to the changing times.

Due to the advancements in AI and technology, the bar for entry-level jobs has just skyrocketed. The demand for core jobs is at all time low and most of the remaining jobs will also be automated. Most of them, not all of them. Try to understand there's a difference.

The world would no longer need an average engineer. It will only need some of the high, high, high skilled engineers who are really good at problem solving. And that's exactly why even if you go to an IIT, there's no guarantee that you might actually end up in a high paying job. So what should we do now? What should you as someone who's working day and night preparing for IIT JEE do now?

As Charles Darwin says, the survival of the fittest, the organisms that are best adapted to their environment are most likely to survive and succeed. So we need to work harder and also smarter. Listen to me carefully.

Firstly, you should understand the true purpose of why you're preparing for IIT J. It's not just to get into IITs. It's not to get a one crore package. It's not to impress your crush.

Not to prove anyone wrong, but to prove to yourself that you're actually improving internally. Like I feel insanely bad when some of you completely ignore the basic life skills, like being able to talk to someone. I'm telling you, even if you graduate from an IIT, no one is going to hire you if you don't communicate better.

Because by the time that you will graduate from an IIT, the bar for entry-level jobs will be at all-time high. So now your job is not just to improve internally, but also to slowly start exploring. the external options.

You need to work harder now. You should be balancing your JEE preparation along with learning and exploring new things. If you're spending six and half days studying for IIT JEE, spend at least half a day a week to learn the basics of communication, to learn about the world around you, to understand what problems are people facing around you. And this will actually help you solve real life problems, which is one of the core skills of successful people. Even I'm working to develop these resources for you.

But for now, you can save the notion page that I've compiled for you. which has some of the best resources that will help you improve your life. The link will be in the description.

But again, just to conclude, IIT-JE is not success. It is the best roads towards success. This means you definitely need to work hard, I mean very hard for IIT Jai.

But also at the same time focus on improving yourself as a student every single day. So once a week, maybe for like just 2-3 hours on a Sunday evening, Saturday evening or Friday evening, start working on your communication. Make small friend groups where you'll try to debate about a couple of things. Go out on walks, understand the society better, read about nutrition, read about things which are not just related to IIT Jai.

So I wish you all the best. All the best for ITJ. All the best for your life.

Bye.
