Soundcraft Video Manual: UI24R Multitrack Session

Introduction

  • Focus on using UI24R for multitrack sessions.

Multitracking Setup

  • Use recorded audio from multiple microphones.
  • Aim: Bring recorded channels back to mixer for practice.

UI24R Settings

  • Navigate to Settings > Patching tab.
  • Use Sound Check feature for easy toggling of DAW sends and physical inputs.

Patching Process

  1. Select Sound Check button on the left of the patching grid.
    • Automatically selects USB-A showing default sound check patching.
  2. Select USB DAW 1-16 on the grid.
    • Example uses 6 channels but can be set for all mixer channels.
  3. Patch 1-to-1 button to link USB DAW channels to mixer channels.
  4. Activate Soundcheck
    • Press Activate Soundcheck button.
    • Green "SC" indicates Soundcheck is on.

DAW Setup (Using Ableton)

  • Select output channels for individual tracks not main output.
    • Change Audio 2 section from Main to External Out.
    • Select corresponding output channel.
    • Ensure channels are enabled in Ableton's Input/Output Config if not visible.

Mixing Practice

  • Press play in DAW to route audio back to mixer channels.
  • Add DSP effects like EQ and Compression.
  • Practice mixing without stress.

Disabling Sound Check

  • To revert to mixer's physical mic line inputs:
    • Disable Sound Check via Patching section or Multi-Track tab.
