How to Get Summary and Transcript from YouTube Videos

Overview

• In this tutorial, you'll learn how to extract a summary and transcript from any YouTube video using an app called Glasp.
• Useful for personal videos or educational content, especially when lacking time to watch lengthy videos.

Step 1: Install Glasp

• Download Glasp from the Chrome Web Store.
• Link will be provided in the description.
• Pin Glasp:
  • Click on the extensions button (jigsaw icon) in the top right.
  • Ensure Glasp is pinned.
  • If not visible, manage extensions and toggle it on.

Step 2: Selecting a YouTube Video

• Choose a video you want to summarize.
  • Note: Shorter videos tend to yield better summaries.
• Example video highlighted: A new app called Decoherence.

Step 3: Accessing Transcript and Summary

• Click on the video and select Share to copy the URL (optional).
• Click on the Glasp extension button at the top right:
  • Options will appear:
    • View AI Summary: Opens a new tab with the summary.
    • Plain Text Transcript: Copies the transcript.

Step 4: Using Chat GPT for Summary

• Click on View AI Summary to open in Chat GPT.
• The transcript will automatically be pasted into Chat GPT for summarization.
• Improve Summary: If the initial summary is unsatisfactory, type "rewrite but longer" in Chat GPT to generate a more detailed summary.
