Parent Advisory Councils (PAC)

Introduction

  • PAC: Officially recognized voice of parents at each school.
  • Role: Provides feedback to school administration and board on matters related to student education.

Key Functions of PAC

  • Forums: Discuss issues impacting school and students' education.
  • Diversity: Strive to represent community diversity, benefiting all students.

Membership

  • Eligibility: Parents/guardians of a school-aged child at the school can be members.

Governance

  • Governed by:
    • Constitution and Bylaws
    • School Act
  • Not required to register as a non-profit.

PAC Operations

  • Communication: Through newsletters, emails, meetings, etc.
  • Parent Involvement: Encourages engagement, influencing school life and community sentiment.

Purposes of PAC

  1. Advise school on parent views regarding programs, policies, and activities.
  2. Organize events and provide parent education.
  3. Encourage and support parent involvement.
  4. Foster communication between home and school.
  5. Assist parents in accessing the education system.
  6. Provide financial support for PAC goals.
  7. Participate in District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) and BCCPAC activities.
