Exploring the Ghost in Hamlet's Act 1

hello everyone the following presentation is a brief summary and Analysis and an introduction to the characters mentioned in act 1 scene one of William Shakespeare's play Hamlet let us take a look at who speaks or who is mentioned in act 1 scene one of Hamlet the three Gods who are on duty on the ramparts of Elenor and who first come across the ghost of King Hamlet are Francisco marcelis and barnardo the gods call upon Horatio when they encountered the ghost Horatio is a nobleman most importantly he is Hamlet's best friend and Ally Horatio is Hamlet's most trusted confident in the play his characteristics are that he is loyal courageous a scholar and a leader the ghost has been appearing over the last few evenings on the ramparts of Elenor Castle he has an uncanny resemblance to King Hamlet the recently deceased king of Denmark Horatio is quite unsettled by this and believes that the ghost might be a warning of an attack on Denmark foron brass does not speak in the scene but he is mentioned by Horatio foron brass is the prince of the neighboring country Norway similarly to Hamlet foron brass is looking to avenge the death of his father Hamlet the main character in the play also does not speak here in act 1 scene one but is mentioned by Horatio Hamlet is a young prince of Denmark whose succession to the throne is threatened by Claudius Hamlet's Uncle his father King Hamlet has recently died and his mother Queen Gertrude has recently married her brother-in-law Claudius who as mentioned is also Hamlet's Uncle the next few slides will briefly cover a summary and short analysis of act 1 scene 1 of Hamlet the play opens on the ramparts or the outer edges of the Danish Castle Elenor one of the Guardsmen Bernardo relieves Francisco from his duty these Guardsmen are nervous when they hear something strange and call out who's there marcelus another Guardsman and Horatio a nobleman and Hamlet's friend arrive on the scene what we can infer from this ear early occurrence in the play is that the nervous cries of who's there build dread and develop a theme of uncertainty the ghost suddenly makes an appearance it looks just like the recently deceased King Hamlet the king of Denmark he is described as wearing a suit of armor just like he wore when he went to battle horatia tries to speak to the ghost but it disappears the appearance of the ghost is an indication that confirms that something is wrong in the state or country of Denmark Horatio states that the ghost may be a warning of an attack on Denmark his reason is that at the moment the prince of Norway foron brass is raising an army to take back lands that King Hamlet won in a battle against foron brass's father what we can deduce about the ghost is that the ghost is connected immediately to the theme of Revenge but at this moment in time it is merely foron brass's Revenge the ghost reappears but lands up disappearing again without speaking at the break of dawn when the rooster begins to Crow Horatio makes the decision that they need to tell Hamlet the deceased King's son about about the ghost because of its uncanny resemblance to Hamlet's father what you can keep in mind here is that every father son relationship in the play involves the theme of Revenge we have already established that Fon brass the prince of Norway is seeking revenge for his father and we will later see that Hamlet will attempt to seek revenge for his father and so will leoty seek revenge for his father ponus
