last year I bought my dream camera which is a Sony fx3 you might heard me talking about this camera in my last video as a beginner filmmaker I had to learn a lot about this camera to get the best out of it and I'm still learning so in this video I'm going to share my best settings to get the most cinematic videos out from it and get it fast let's get to the settings let's turn on the camera press the mode button and select the movie mode it will take you to the exposure mode option then select manual exposure it will allow you full control of the camera basically this is for manual mode for videos you can change aperture shutter speed and other settings according to your needs before the next setting change I want to mention about the SD card you need for the best read and write speed if you are using CF Express card then you are good to go if you are using SD cards you cannot just use any SD cards you need to use v90 SD cards I have wrote a manual for SD cards if you want to learn more about SD cards and what the text means on a SD card you can download that manual and read and also you can save it for for future references it will explain how many SD cards are there and what the text means on that SD card now press the menu button go to the shooting mode here comes the fun part open the image quality go for the file format you can see four 4K options and two HD options ignore the HD options and DCI 4K which is true Cinema 4K you will get some extra pixel on the height section in this mode generally I don't use it that much but sometimes I use it depending on the situation now the remaining three op options xavc s HS and Si 4K option s is the normal 4K which most cameras have and Si is the best quality 4K with no compression so the file size will be huge and HS is in between the high and low so I mostly shoot at xavc HS 4K which is in between of s and Si 4K but in this mode the codec is h265 which is a heavy codec to decode sometimes if you have a lower-end PC I use M2 Max MacBook Pro which is pretty much the best PC nowadays and it can handle h265 pretty easily so I select xavc HS if you have a lower end PC select xavc s4k now press back go to next option movie settings select the frame rate and select 23.98 P which is almost 24 FPS I have never shooted other than 24 FPS unless I have to slow it down it will give you the most natural look now go back and select the record settings menu and select the 100 m422 10bit option uh this is the bit rate or information about colors the more information you have the more better color you can achieve after that close the settings menu and set the shutter speed double off your frame rate so as we have selected 24 FPS we're going to select the shutter speed at 1 over 48 or 50 it will give you the most natural motion blur then again go to the settings menu select image quality and open lock shooting settings select lock shooting cinei option it will stack your camera to the 2 native ISO 800 and 12,800 to get the best dynamic range and also clean image so this is 90% how I shoot my videos if you want to change the iso select flexible ISO mode and also select the color gamut s gamut 3 C now your footage will look desaturated and flat don't worry about it we are going to fix it in the next step go to Yellow toolbox option select display option gamma display option on and select auto go to exposure option and select color tone option and press select L and select s709 it will change your display from Lock to X 709 so that you can expose your shot pretty easily and quickly it will look normal on your display but I want to mention that it will only for your display assistance your actual footage will still look desaturated and flat to preserve the highest dynamic range it will not affect your footage at all it is very easy to convert your lock footage into re 79 in your editing software nowadays just drop a color space transform and select R 79 it will convert your footage properly you might be thinking why we are shooting in log if we are going to convert it into de 709 at the end the Dex 79 doesn't retain much information so if you want to change anything it will break pretty easily whereas log image will preserve all the information there so that you can change it as you wish it will not break so easily now select your ISO 800 select the aperture as low as your lens goes and the white balance option I'm going to teach you a handy technique for white balancing open the white balance menu select the custom white balance and take a picture of your lens cap there is a reason why Sony made those lens caps 18% gray so that you don't have to carry a gray card all the time you can easily wide balance your shot with these so we are done now we are going to save those settings so that we don't have to change those settings every time open the settings menu shooting mode and camera set memory you can see 1 2 3 one being selected press okay button and it will show you registered now we are set every time we need to access this settings just select mode and select mr1 and you are ready to shoot as you are staying in this video for so long I'm going to share some bonus tips with you customize your buttons properly so that you can access your most used functions quickly for example I use this button six for log assist I can quickly turn on and off the log assist function I use this Iris one button to change from autofocus to manual focus without changing anything in the lens it can be a separate video for this let me know in the comment section if you want to know how I use my custom buttons to ACC features pretty quickly so that's it for this video hope this video might help if it does drop a like And subscribe see you in the next video
