Beginner's Guide to Crochet Cardigan

hello guys welcome back to my channel and in today's video I'll be showing you how to crochet a crop lace cardigan it is an easy pattern and friendly for beginners for this lace cardigan, I'm using only simple stitches like double crochet, chain and single crochet stitch it made out of three panels and attach them together then adding the sleeves and for this cardigan that I made it is for size small and also showing you the measurement of my cardigan and for this cardigan is made to measuring so in this video I'm going to show you how to measuring it on your body and how to get your own measurement for any size okay now without further ado let's get started first thing first we are going to make the front part of the cardigan and this is the measurement of my front part for this front part of the cardigan we are start working from the top of the shoulder part and for both side we repeat the same thing okay, to begin make a slip knot and then chain eight it is equal 1.5 inches for you guys that make bigger size and want your shoulder part more bigger please add more chains and make sure the number of your foundation chains is the even number after you got eight chains and this is what it looks like it is the width of the top of my shoulder pad as you can see in this picture if you guys want the neckline more wider you can make the shoulder part more smaller and if you want your neck part more close you can make the shoulder part a little bit bigger than this and after you got eight chains is the even number and then we are going to continue add four more chains it is for the chain stitch or the turning stitch after you have add four more chains in total, you must have 12 chains and next we are going to make double crochet stitch for row one skip four chains and make double crochet into the fifth chain to make double crochet yarn over insert the hook into the loop yarn over and pull up a loop and now you have three loops on your hook yarn over pull through two loops and yarn over pull through two loops again for this chain four that we skipped we also count it as a stitch so don't forget to use stitch marker to mark add this chain stitch skip three chains and mark at the fourth chain which is near double crochet stitch and next continue make double crochet into every chain until you reach the end of the row then I will meet you back again after you reach the end of the row and this is what the first row looks like and for the next row we are going to make the lace stitch or the mesh stitch for row two chain four for chain four we also count it as a stitch then turn your work and next skip two stitches and make double crochet into the third stitch after you have made double crochet into the third stitch and this is what it looks like don't forget to use stitch marker to mark this chain stitch skip one chain that near double crochet stitch and mark at the second chain and next chain one then skip one stitch and make double crochet into the next stitch after you have made double crochet and next please keep repeating this by chain one and skip one stitch then make double crochet into the next stitch until you reach the end of the row then I will meet you back again after you reach the end of the row like I said, for this chain stitch we also count it as a stitch so you have to work with double crochet into it you can count two chains and make double crochet into the third chain and after you have made double crochet into the chain stitch and this is what the second row looks like and next we are going to make double crochet row again for row three chain three for chain three we also count it as a stitch then turn your work and make double crochet into the chain one space after you have made double crochet into the chain one space then make double crochet into the next double crochet stitch keep repeating this by make double crochet into the chain space and make double crochet into double crochet stitch until you reach the end of the row then I will meet you back again after you reach the end of the row and this is what the third row looks like and for the next next row please keep repeating row two and row three it means that, you have to make one row with the mesh stitch and one row with double crochet stitch until you reach row 10 then I will meet you back again and this is what it looks like after you reach row 10 for the measurement of this 10 row it is equal 4 inches and for the length of the strap or the shoulder part it is measuring from the top of your shoulder until the top of your underarm part as you can see remember for you guys that make bigger size if you want your neckline more deeper you can add more rows and if you guys want your neckline look shallow you can make less row or make this strap a little bit shorter than mine and next we are going to increase for the V neck line to begin continue from where your last stitch is for row eleven chain three turn your work and make double crochet into the chain space and into double crochet stitch repeat until you have one last stitch then I will meet you back again and after you have one last stitch then we are going to make increase by make three double crochet into the same loop you can count two chains and make double crochet into the third chain after you got three double crochet in the same loop and this is what it looks like as you can see it look curved for one side and next for row 12 chain four turn your work and make double crochet into the same loop that near chain four which is the first double crochet stitch and this is how we increase for the lace stitch or the mass stitch and next chain one skip one stitch and make double crochet into the next stitch keep repeating this until you reach the end the row then I will meet you back again after you reach the end of the row and this is what it looks like and for the next next row please keep repeating row 11 and row 12 until you reach row 14 then I will meet you back again and this is what it looks like after you reach row 14 and for the measurement from row 1 until row 14 it is equal 5.5 in length and measuring from the top of my shoulder until underneath of my underarm as you can see for you guys that make bigger size you can keep increasing until you reach underneath of your underarm like mine and after you got your desire fit and next we are going to add some more stitch at this under arm part and next continue from where your last stitch is for row 14 the same continue add five more chains after you have add five more chains in total stitch include the chain you must have 22 stitches for you guys that make bigger size you can add many chain as you want for your underarm part and don't forget to calculate the total of your stitch with the number of your chains that you just add make sure that you have the even number and after you got 22 stitches and then continue add four more chains like I said it is for the chain stitch or the turning stitch and next for row 15 skip four chains and make double crochet into the fifth chain continue make double crochet into each chain and each double crochet stitch until you have one last stitch then I will meet you back again and after you have one last stitch then we are going to make increase again by make three double crochet into the same Loop and for the next-next row you just keep repeating row 11 and row 12 until you reach row 20 then I we meet you back again and this is what it looks like after you reach row 20 for the width of this row 20 it is equal 6.5 inches is measuring from the underarm part until you reach the middle part of your chest for you guys to make bigger size you can keep increasing until you reach the middle part of your chest after you got your desire fit and next we are going to make decrease to make it curve at the end of bust part and next continue from where your last stitch is for row 21 chain three turn your work and make double crochet into every stitch until you have three last stitches and after you got three last stitches then we are going to make decrease by make three double crochet together to make decrease yarn over insert the hook into double crochet stitch yarn over and pull up a loop then yarn over pull through two loops and now you still have two loops on your hook then yarn over and continue insert the hook hook into the next chain space yarn over and pull up a loop and now you have four loops on your hook then yarn over pull through two loops and now you have three loops on the hook then yarn over and continue insert the hook into the last chain stitch yarn over and pull up a loop and now you have five loops on your hook then yarn over pull through two loops and now you must have three double crochet with four loops on the hook then yarn over and pull through all four loops and this is how we made double crochet three together next for row 22 chain two for chain two we done count it as a stitch then turn your work skip two stitches and make double crochet into the third Stitch after you have made a double crochet don't forget to use stitch marker to mark at this first double crochet stitch it is easy to know where the first or your last stitch is and next chain one skip one stitch and make double crochet into the next stitch keep repeating this until you reach the end of the row then I will meet you back again and this is what it looks like after you reach the end of the row for the next-next row you just keep repeating row 21 and row 22 until you reach row 30 then I will meet you back again and this is what it looks like after you reach row 30 for you guys that make bigger size you can keep decreasing until you got the curve part that you want and next chain one and cut off the yarn and this is what the first side of my front part of the cardigan looks like and next please repeat the same thing to the other side and now we are done for the front part and this is what both side looks like and next we are going to make the back part of the cardigan and this is the measurement of my back part and this is what my back part looks like I already make the half side of it for the width of this top part I got it from the front part so I'm going to show you how you can get your own measurements first, you can use stitch marker to mark at a double crochet stitch from the line of your strap so you just skip six stitches that you add at the underarm part and and then you find the last increasing row which is the row next to the decreasing row for me I have 29 stitches not include with the adding stitch at the underarm part and then 29 * 2 because we have two side of the front part and for the total stitch of both side is the length of your back part so in total I have 58 stitches and for the back part you just make 58 chains and then plus four chains it is for the turning stitch and for the next-next row you just make normal row of double crochet row and normal row of the lace stitch until you reach row 14 for these 14 rows it is the same length or the same number of the row like the front part which is where we measuring from the top part of the shoulder until the underneath of the underarm part for you guys that make different size you just add more rows until you got the same length like your front part and next we are going to add more stitches at the underarm part like the front part to begin continue from where you last stitch is which is row 14 the same continue add five chains and then add four more chains and next for row 15 skip four chains and make double crochet into the fifth chain keep making double crochet into every chain and into every stitch until you reach the end the row then I will meet you back again and this is what it looks like after you reach the end of the row after you reach the end of the row you don't have any chains to make double crochet stitch so you have to make double crochet and chain at the same time and now I'm going to show you how to make it to begin yarn over insert the hook into the same loop with this last double crochet stitch yarn over and pull up a loop make sure that you keep the last loop more tight and now you have three loops on the hook then yarn over pull through this first loop and now you just create one chain and you also have three loops on the hook then hold the small loop and yarn over pull through two loops and now you still have two loops on the hook then yarn over and pull through all two loops and as you can see this is a double crochet and the chain one below it so for this small loop below double crochet stitch it is where we are going to continue working the stitch into it so for the next-next stitch you just repeat the same thing like the first stitch keep repeating until you got six stitches of double crochet then I will meet you back again and this is what it looks like after you got six double crochets it is the same number like the other side and for the next-next row, from row 16 until row 30 you just make normal row of the lace stitch and the normal row of the double crochet stitch then I will meet you back again and this is what it looks like after you reach row 30 then chain one and cut off the yarn remember for both back and the front part you must have the same number of the row so for my front part I have 30 rows in total and for the back part you must have 30 rows the same then flip both part wrong side and place it on top like this and next we are going to attach both part together by start from the shoulder part to begin turn your work then attach the yarn into both corner stitch and next chain one then we are going to make single crochet both side together to begin insert the hook into both sides loop yarn over and pull through both Loop and now you have two loops on your hook then yarn over pull through two loops keep repeating this into each stitch until you reach the end of the row of the front part then I will meet you back again after you reach the end of the row and this is what it looks like flip your work and this is what the right side looks like and next chain one and cut off the yarn and next we are going to attach this side of the cardigan together to begin attach the yarn into the corner stitch then chain one and then make single crochet both side together by insert the hook into this big loop and make single crochet into this small loop keep repeating this until you reach the end of the row then I will meet you back again and after you reach the end of the row then chain one and cut off the yarn and this is what the right side looks like and now we are done for one side for the other side you just repeat the same thing like the first side and next turn your cardigan right side out and then we are going to make the shell stitch around the edge of the cardigan we are start working from the corner of the left side to begin attach the yarn into the corner stitch which is the last increasing row and then chain one and next skip this double crochet stitch or chain stitch and we are going to make double crochet into this small loop which is the loop where we working the stitch into it keep making double crochet into the same loop until you got seven stitches then I will meet you back again and after you got seven stitches in the same loop then skip this double crochet stitch or chain stitch and make slip stitch into the next small loop and this is what the first shell stitch looks like and for the next neck shell stitch you just repeat the same thing until you reach the back part of your neckline then I will me you back again after you reach the back part of the neckline and next, you just continue make the shell stitch by skip two double crochet stitches and make seven double crochet into the third stitch after you got seven double crochet in the same loop then skip two stitches and make slip stitch into the third stitch keep pitting this until you reach the front part again after you reach the other side of the front part then you just repeat the same thing like the first side until you reach the corner then I will meet you back again and after you reach the corner which is the last increasing row and then we are going to make the string for the front tie of the cardigan to begin continue at 60 chains if you guys want your string more longer you can add more chains and after you got 60 chains and next we are are going to make single crochet row so this is the right side of your chain flip your chain and this is the back side of it and we are going to working the stitch into the back side of the chain to begin skip one chain and make single crochet into the next small bum keep making single crochet into the small bum until you reach the end of the row then I will meet you back again and after you reach the end of the row and this is what it looks like and next make slip stitch into the corner stitch and then continue make the shell stitch until you reach the bottom of the cardigan then I will meet you back again and after you reach the bottom part of the cardigan you just continue make the shell stitch the same by count two stitches and make slip stitch at the third stitch then count two stitches and make seven double crochet into the third stitch repeat until you reach the other corner then I will meet you back again after you reach the corner then continue make 60 chains it is the same number like the other string and then you just repeat the same thing like the first string by make single crochet into every small bum of the chain until you reach the end of the row and after you reach the end of the row then make slip stitch into the corner stitch chain one and cut off the yarn and now we are done making the shell stitch around the edge and this is what it looks like and next I'm going to show you how to making the sleeves so I did make one sleeve for the other sleeve we repeat the same thing to make the sleeve we start working from the top part of the shoulder which is where we are attach both back part and the front part together to begin attach the yarn into the small loop that near the middle part and next for one we are going to make double crochet into the middle part which is where we make single crochet both part together keep making double crochet into the middle loop of the shoulder part until you got seven stitches then I will meet you back again and after you got seven stitches in the same loop skip double crochet stitch and make slip stitch into the next small loop and this is what the first row looks like it looks like a shell stitch for you guys that make for size medium until size large or extra large or more I recommend you to add more stitches like eight or 10 stitches in the same loop the more curve of this first row is the bigger of the sleeves and next for row two make two slip stitch into this big loop and then continue make one more slip stitch into the small loop you must have three slip stitch it is like we skip this double crochet stitch and start working the stitch from the next small loop then turn your work chain one and make double crochet into this first double crochet stitch keep repeating this by chain one and make double crochet into the next stitch so we are not going to skip the stitch you just chain one and make double crochet into the next stitch chain one and make double crochet into the next stitch until you reach the end of the row then I will meet you back again so for this row two we make increase into every stitch and after you reach the end of the row which is the last double crochet stitch you must have 30 stitches include the chain space and then continue make slip stitch into this small loop and next for all three slip stitch into this big loop and then continue to make slip stitch into this small loop and next turn your work and then we are going to increase by make two double crochet into this first double crochet stitch after you have made increase then continue make double crochet into every stitch until you have one last stitch and we are going to make increase again after you have one last stitch which is the chain one space then make two double crochet into the chain one space after you have made increase then make slip stitch into the small loop which is the loop where we work with double crochet stitch and for this row 3 you mush have 16 stitches and next for row 4 make 3 slip stitch then turn your work chain one and make double crochet into this big space which is the space between double crochet stitch after you have made double crochet into the big space then chain one skip one stitch and make double crochet into the next stitch keep repeating this by chain one skip one stitch and make double crochet into the next stitch until you reach the end of the row then I will meet you back again after you reach the end of the row then chain one and make slip stitch into this small loop and this is what the fourth row looks like and next for row five make two slip stitch then turn your work and make double crochet into every stitch until the end of the row for this row five which is double crochet row you don't have to make increase just make normal row after you reach the end of the row then make slip stitch and for the next-next row please keep repeating row four and row five until you reach row 13 then I will meet you back again and for you guys that make bigger size start from side medium until size large, extra large I recommend you to make increase for each row by repeat row three and row four and this is what it looks like after you reach row 13 and for one last row which is the row that near the underarm part I'm going to make normal row no increase so for row 14 you just mix three slip stitch turn your work chain one skip one stitch and make double crochet into the next stitch keep repeating this until till you reach the end of the row then make slip stitch after you have made slip stitch and next turn your work then we are going to make the shell stitch around the edge of the sleeve for row 15 skip 2 stitches and make s double crochet into the third stitch after you got seven double crochet then skip two stitches and make slip stitch into the third stitch keep repeating this until you reach the end of the row then I will meet you back again and now we are done for the sleeves for you guys that make bigger size you just add more increasing row until you reach the last row that near the underarm part and then stop increase and you just make the shell stitch around your sleeves and for the other side like I said, we repeat the same thing you just attach the yarn into the stitch that near the middle part and then repeat the same thing like the other sleeves and now both sleeves are done and this is what your crop lace cardigan looks like if you guys love this
