part one of Fahrenheit 451 continues and when Montague wakes up Mildred is already awake she doesn't remember the night prior and she doesn't believe she even overdosed she's excited about the interactive TV show that will broadcast that morning she's an actress and has a small part in it three walls in their living room are actually oversized TV screens she wants the fourth done but Montague is concerned about the cost a third of his annual income through their argument we see that Mildred is very materialistic and Montag questions that he goes for a walk and runs into Clarice Clarice rubs a dandelion under her chin and it turns yellow she explains this once she is in love she rubs one under Montag's chin but it doesn't turn yellow but he insists that he's in love with his wife now she explains the Montague that authorities have forced her to see a psychiatrist because she's peculiar she likes to sit and think she likes to watch people she asks Montague about being a fireman again she says he's not like the others her questions and observations upset him so he sends her off to her psychiatrist appointment Mildred represents the amount of desensitization that has happened to society because of Technology with a seashell radio in one ear an obsession with TV and the other and a life dedicated to being distracted she and Montague are tuned out Clarice however represents that spark of intelligence bringing Montague to life
