So, this video we're going to be talking about the imperfect for ER and IR verbs, but let's review real quick with an AR verb such as bailar, to dance. We have yo bailaba, tú bailabas, él bailaba, ella bailaba, usted bailaba, nosotros bailábamos, nosotras bailábamos, ellos bailaban, ellas bailaban, ustedes bailaban. Now remember, aside from 3 irregular verbs which will have their own video lesson, any other verb that is erir will follow the pattern covered in this video. We'll take a verb first like comer, to eat. In the imperfect we have yo comía, tú comías, él comía, ella comía, usted comía, nosotros comíamos, nosotras comíamos, ellos comían, ellas comían, ustedes comían. Remember that the imperfect is another past tense. Although these can mean I ate, you ate, he ate, she ate, we ate, and they ate, The imperfect is also used for used to eat, or was eating, were eating. Also just like with the AR verbs, the yo form is the same as the él, ella, usted form. So we'll usually leave the subject and the sentence in the imperfect form. How about another ER verb? Tener, to have. Yo tenía, tú tenías, él tenía, ella tenía, usted tenía, nosotros teníamos, nosotras teníamos, ellos tenían, ellas tenían, ustedes tenían. Por ejemplo, Yo tenía un oso de peluche. I used to have a teddy bear. Now let's try an IR verb, dormir. And remember this is one of those verbs that will stem change normally in the present tense in the preterite, but the imperfect there are no problems with this verb. So we have yo dormía, tú dormías, él dormía, ella dormía, usted dormía, nosotros dormíamos, nosotras dormíamos, ellos dormían, ellas dormían, ustedes dormían. Por ejemplo, De niño yo dormía mucho. As a child, I used to sleep a lot. Remember that if dormir is reflexive, dormirse, it means to fall asleep. Yo me dormía, tú te dormías, él se dormía, ella se dormía, usted se dormía, nosotros nos dormíamos, nosotras nos dormíamos, ellos se dormían, ellas se dormían, ustedes se dormían. Por ejemplo, De niño yo me dormía a las ocho. As a child, I used to go to bed at 8 o'clock. Now how about you change the verb into the imperfect form? Pause the video if you need more time and check the conjugation chart below the video if you aren't sure and afterwards translate the verb into English. Yo comía.
