hi everyone it's Alan with Earth glow welcome back to another new video in today's video we are going to be making some citronella Candles now as you just saw I am mixing three different fragrances one of which is a pure essential oil um and the other two are fragrances now I'm really excited because for a long time I have worked to find the perfect citronella blend and I've actually found this combination of oils to be my favorite of anything I've tried so [Music] far the exact blend that I'm using will be available in my patreon which is linked below [Music] [Music] but what I find is when you blend in the lemongrass with the citronella um and then I did as you saw also incorporate a little bit of a fragrance from candle science the lemongrass and citronella along with the regular citronella I find that you get almost like a spa type of a scent dare I say that is combined with that classic citronella which helps to keep bugs away uh outside in the summer on your patio so I'm really excited about it I'm actually going to be making these uh for a launch that goes live on the website um so at the time you're watching this this is several weeks after these candles were made um but these will go live on the website tomorrow June 28th at 12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time the same time that our lilac and lemon Leaf can yes they are coming back um will be restocked that SC sold so fast I couldn't resist bringing it back for you all so the vessels that I've chosen for these as you can see there's a lot of different things going on and I actually ended up uh kind of modifying some of this so you'll see at the end of the video um but what I ended up doing since these are going to be patio candles um I ended up just using a lot of kind of miscellaneous concrete vessels and a lot of these are what I would call well let me back up a second I consider all concrete candles Perfectly Imperfect but for all a lot of these vessels I will say that there are sometimes a little bit more um than what I'd be comfortable normally selling in terms of them being perfectly imperfect they could have any number of little imperfections sometimes a little bit of pigment that didn't quite get mixed all the way in and one one spot or they could be vessels that I only made one or two of just to make a new color blend or they could be vessels where a tiny bit of wax spilled and stained part of the side and there will be a lot of different options so we have here the 4in Tulips from Modern craft labs and as you can see I'm wicking these with a CDN number four most of these candles since they are going to be for patios I thought um making them slightly larger would be better now the wax that I'm using for these candles is going to be CB2 wax this is one of my all-time favorite waxes it burns so cleanly it's so luxurious single pour and I just have very little the negative thing is it's pretty expensive and I'm going to be using about a 10% fragrance load on this and as I said this exact blend will be available to all of my patrons this afternoon but it does combine an essential oil along with two citronella fragrances now for those of you who aren't familiar with using essential oils in your candles um they can work a little bit well kind of a lot differently than fragrances because you have to remember a lot of essential oils are not originally uh formulated for use in candles that doesn't mean that you can't use them but what it does mean is that you need to do do a lot of testing and also make sure that the essential oil that you're using is not going to emit harmful toxins in the air I'll have my video where I'm talking about um some of this linked above I absolutely love essential oils I love aromatherapy that has been one of the foundational aspects of my candle making and my business however you do have to be careful because essential oils are coming straight from Plants they're coming at very very saturated condensed levels for example one drop of rose essential oil contains more than 50 uh individual roses and so what that also means is because you're getting everything so condensed straight from the plant or in terms of some citruses you're getting it often from the cold pressed rind you can often times get a high amount of undesirable sometimes could be carcinogenic could be mutagens could be toxins um there's a lot of different things that can be in these um essential oils that you need to watch out for so um I'm using today as you just saw a little bit ago the SVA Organics lemongrass essential oil and that is absolutely safe to be using in this application in the amount that I'm using it at now with this wax I do like to mix for about a minute um you can get away with mixing this one for probably 20 30 seconds I like to mix for a full minute and it doesn't hurt anything it just ensures that everything is 100% Incorporated and then I use these piston funnels to pour um directly from my pouring pictures into these and then I'll pour from these into my candles and this really helps especially with concrete candles just to make sure um that none of the wax uh will spill on the sides of the vessels these really help to mitigate that I find especially if you're like me and you're dealing with a tight space I still make candles in my kitchen I'm making it work as long as I possibly can but as you can see here I don't have the ability to go around the other sides of my counter so I am having to reach over and sometimes that can put my arms and my neck and back at some really weird angles and these piston funnels which I'll have links below the exact ones that I'm using you can also find all my favorite candl making supplies that I purchase on Amazon you can always find those linked Below in my Amazon storefront there's actually a category for candle making category for soap making markets shipping all kinds of stuff and then as you saw earlier I am using CDN Wix in all of these Candles now I find as I've mentioned in several previous videos that the CDN number 2 is one of the most versatile Wicks uh when you're doing multi- wicking it's a wick that you can use in so many different containers so essentially everything you see here with the exception of the 4 in tulips from Modern craft Labs that as I showed earlier have two CDN number fours everything else is wicked with CDN number twos and those are Wicks that I find work really well uh with not only a lot of multi-wick um when I'm using CB2 but they also work really well with coconut apricot wax and I sometimes will use a blend of coconut apricot and SP 487 they work really well with that just really versatile so now what I'm doing here is double-checking my fill and you can easily do that in a number of ways but one of the final ways that I like to check it is by tearing out my scale and literally pouring a candle into a vessel um on my scale so what I'm getting here is is the net weight and that is the amount that you're going to want to put on your warning label it is the net content so that's your wax and your fragrance and then this one here is the one that I sell as a 13 O candle and what I'm doing is just double or probably at this point triple checking to make sure that that is what I'm giving my customers [Music] and as you can see I'm using a d boil which are some of my favorite melters um to melt down my wax and then pouring again with the Piston funnels this time into the modern craft labs for inch tulip short and I pour this wax immediately after I mix in my fragrance so the temperature I would say is around um between 170 and 180 in fahren my pouring temperature but the secret one of the secrets with this wax is to get it really hot so you want when you are adding in your fragrance oils you want this wax to be around I would say 205 to 210 and if you're using an infrared thermometer those usually shoot a little bit higher than the actual temperature which is what you would measure with a stick thermometer or a probe thermometer so those may tell you it's as much as 215 to 220 and that is the temperature I like to add my fragrance oil with this wax now as I said earlier these charcoal vessels all didn't quite pass my test um to be sold for other candles but I am using them for these citronella patio candles and they will be offered at a discounted um price for that reason you could see on some of these at the bottom the pigment you know it it's not that it's there's anything dangerous about it at all it's just that they didn't they all had some little imperfections to a point where I wasn't comfortable selling them um as I normally would but I think particularly for a candle that you're going to have outside on the patio on that these are absolutely [Music] perfect and then off to the right next to the 4in modern craft lab tulips you can see I have some of the Amazon oval molds and these I will have links below they're a really inexpensive way to get started with concrete um I also have a video where I show how I've modified these molds a little bit just to make the demolding process a little bit easier with these particular ones since they can tend to be a little bit more challenging and then next to those I have the Amazon cylinders or the Amazon oval molds I'm sorry and those are a triple Wick mold that are really nice um you can easily um make a triple Wick candle in these with three CDN number twos I've done it with coconut apricot I've done it with CB2 I've done it with blends of coconut apricot and SP 487 and I've also made um candles in them with 606 all using the three CDN 2s and they work pretty well with almost every single fragrance I have tried the Wix centering uh or I should say Wick stabilizing tools that I'm using are ones that I actually made myself out of popsicle sticks that I cut down and I actually used a belt loop puncher uh to punch the holes now you can get some of these prepunched um from Amazon like this and I will try to leave a link below but these are really inexpensive ways that that you're able to keep your Wicks stabilized and you definitely can use fancier more expensive ones um I know there's places like nordan uh Wick tools that make uh custom ones and I would say that you know a lot of candle makers use them with great success I personally don't think that it's necessary um something like this is absolutely going to do the job it just kind of depends on what works for you but anyways that is going to be about all for this video if you did enjoy this one don't forget to give it a thumbs up and as I mentioned all these candles will be available on our website at Earth glow.com starting tomorrow June 28th at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Standard time so that's 11 Central 10 Mountain 9 specific I'm super excited with how these came out if you guys would like a video on how I design and print my labels for these candles just leave it in the comments below I think these are going to make the perfect patio candles and I'm so happy to be able to upcycle a lot of the vessels um that I didn't otherwise have a clear use [Music] for and I'm just really happy with how my testers burned and how these have come out so anyways I'm sending all of you peace love and light and I'm wishing all of you happy candle making I would like to take the time to
