who are the Blackfoot what is the historical context in which they emerged what Legacy did they leave behind all these questions and more will be addressed in this video if you enjoy this video please hit the like button and subscribe to our channel for additional content the Blackfoot Indians also known as the sikhsika are a tribe of indigenous people who traditionally lived in the Great Plains region of North America primarily in what is now Montana Alberta and parts of Idaho Saskatchewan and British Columbia they were one of the most powerful and feared tribes of the Plains known for their Fierce fighting skills and Warrior culture the Blackfoot were nomadic people following the Buffalo herds for food clothing and shelter they were skilled hunters and used a variety of hunting techniques such as Buffalo jumps where large groups of Buffalo were driven over a cliff they were also skilled Horsemen using horses for hunting transportation and warfare they were also skilled at making tools and weapons from Stone bone and wood the Blackfoot had a complex social and political structure with each band led by a chief they also had a strong spiritual tradition with a wide range of religious beliefs and practices the Sundance was a significant religious ceremony which was held annually and was a time for Spiritual renewal healing and the making of spiritual connections the Blackfoot also had a strong tradition of Storytelling and oral history the Blackfoot were severely impacted by the arrival of European settlers in the 19th century their population was decimated by disease and warfare and their traditional way of life was disrupted by the loss of their hunting grounds and the destruction of the Buffalo herds today there are several different Blackfoot tribes in Canada and the United States and many black foot people continue to practice their traditional culture and maintain their connection to their ancestral territories and history thank you for watching two minute history if you enjoyed this video please hit the like button you can also view our related content by visiting our Channel thank you foreign
