hello worship flaggers this is Tiffany Wakeman do you know why you flag have you ever wondered whether flagging was biblical today I am going to teach you how flagging is not only biblical but significant I am going to begin the series by showing how God considers objects important in worship and even in warfare we will start by looking at John chapter 12 verses 12 through 13 in these scriptures we read that a large crowd had gathered and met Jesus on his way to Jerusalem for the Passover festival the crowd climbed up palm trees cut the branches waved them and laid them on the ground as Jesus rode through this is where we get our Palm Sunday traditions what I want to point out in these scriptures is that the Bible would not mention objects like these palm fronds if they were not significant in some way objects have a purpose otherwise the Scriptures would not need to mention them when we praise God with something in her hand like our flags or a streamer or a veil it has significance it is important in Esther 4:11 and in Esther chapter five verse two we learn of a strict Persian rule that was known even among the common people the rule was that anyone that comes into the Kings inner Court who is not summoned by him they are put to death unless the King extends out his golden scepter the scepter was an emblem of authority for the Persian Empire it was also a symbolic representation of favor and grace from the king the extension of the symbolic object the scepter gave life to those that walked into the inner Court of the King unsummoned I'll add that the object itself did not give the people life but was merely a utensil to grant life to those the king favored one of the types of sacrifices offered to God was the wave offering wave offerings were lifted up and waved to God to be accepted as a sacrifice an example is Exodus chapter 29 verses 23 through 24 where unleavened bread is offered up as a wave offering Aaron and his sons you can find other wave offerings in Leviticus such as a melon log of oil and a cluster of the first fruits a wave offering is a perfume of fire that drives out the enemy when we lift our hands or our flags in praise and worship to God we are diffusing the fragrance of Jesus into the atmosphere and driving out the enemy in John 10:10 it says that Satan the thief does not come except to steal and to kill and to destroy it comes to kill anything that has life therefore it is our job to foil those plans through the power of the Holy Spirit how do we do that we do that by releasing spirit inspired dances and executing movements with our flags by doing this we become a catalyst a channel that the Holy Spirit empowers to execute that sweet fragrance and drive out the enemy thus causing deliverin last but not least I want to discuss two objects that the Bible specifically mentions that were used for warfare I do not feel that the Bible limits us to these objects for warfare but sites the mounds a model I also want to state again to not believe in the power of an object such as your flax a sword can do nothing without it being wielded by a solider it is the power of God that drives out the enemy and he uses you as his vessel so remember that when you wield your flags in warfare in Isaiah 30 verse 32 it says the Lord uses the music of tambourines in battle tambourines shown in this scripture were used to fight against a physical enemy but we also know that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities powers rulers and spiritual wickedness in high places therefore brandishing our weapons of war such as in this case the scripture states tambourine fights against our spiritual enemy based on the interpretation of execut when t 8 it appears Lucifer may have been the first worship leader worship with tambourines which was something he used in heaven is now a continual reminder of his fall and defeat finally in the scriptures we read how the shofar also called a ram's horn is an instrument of spiritual warfare in numbers chapter 10 verse 9 it even states that when the Israelites marched into war they were required to sound an alarm with a shofar the shofar goes back to the story where Abraham sacrificed a ram instead of his only son Isaac this Ram of God was prepared from the foundation of the world and is a picture of the substitutionary sacrifice of God son for the sins of the world if we look at John 3:16 we can see a connection in that father God sacrificial Redemption of his son Jesus involved in violent spiritual warfare between him and Satan as Christians the blasts of the shofar represents the shout of God's victory over the power of sin and death we see the shofar mentioned throughout the Bible it's mentioned in connection with Rosh Hashanah and the Yom Kippur Jubilee in Leviticus chapter 25 verse 9 throughout Jewish history the shofar has been an object of biblical significance such as when Joshua waged war against Jericho it was also an important object for use during worship in the tabernacle and in the temple even blown when the Ark of the Covenant was returned to the camp finally the shofar was so important that Jesus himself mentions it in Matthew chapter 24 verse 31 and he will blow a shofar on the day of rapture these are just a few of the objects mentioned in the Bible if the bible did not consider an artifact or an item important i do not think the riders would feel the need to mention them but it goes to show that objects such as palm leaves bread tambourines shofars a rainbow or even the cross are significant they are symbols of something more important that God is doing the cross is an object but it symbolizes Jesus's great sacrifice for us your flags are a symbol of what the Holy Spirit is moving and speaking in the spiritual atmosphere they represent an object of healing love victory or a declaration of spiritual war stay tuned for part two of this series where I will dive deeper into
