how do you articulate a one minute speech woodro Wilson had a famous quote where he said if I am to speak 10 minutes I need a week for Preparation if 15 minutes 3 days if half hour 2 days if an hour I am ready now suffice to say the shorter your speech is the more preparation you would need but what happens in those moments when you're not given time to prepare how do you quickly think to articulate those thoughts clearly so we're going to get into a few techniques to help you understand how you can articulate a one minute speech quickly these techniques have not only been applied by me but we've also taught it to thousands of professionals from companies like meta Amazon Uber Adobe to communicate on the spot in high pressured environments whether it's a meeting presentation or a simple conversation so let's get into how to approach short one or two minute speeches a bulletproof framework to speak without blanking out and how to sound articulate while speaking but before I get to that let me tell you a quick story articulation is something that took me a long time to understand and I remember when I had gone to a Toast Masters meeting in case you don't know what that is it's basically a platform where you can go and practice public speaking and I had to go and give an impromptu speech on a topic which was very simple in hindsight the power of clear communication and when I was given that topic I had to speak for a minimum of 1 minute and a maximum of 2 and 1/2 minutes but as soon as I got the topic I realized that not only do I not know what to say but I had some ideas in my mind which I just wasn't able to speak out I started off saying something which I barely even remember for what felt like an eternity and I blanked out I apologize ized and I walked away I later found out that I had spoken for just about 20 seconds or so and it's because I did not understand how to articulate my thoughts clearly and that's why I understood how to approach short speeches effectively and that is that any communication does not begin in the mouth it does not even begin in the mind it begins even before we start to think of what to say and that's where I understood framework based thinking a big corporate we use a lot of templates systems and processes why do we do that so if somebody leaves that system and a new person joins in even if they aren't that experienced with the company they can still perform on a reliable level because of those templates systems and processes the same thing needs to be applied for our communication the more templates or Frameworks we have the faster we can think and hence articulate those thoughts so we're going to get into two Frameworks which we can utilize to do this effectively before we get into that if you're new here my name is radep from frantically speaking we release Communications content like this all the time if you like such stuff hit subscribe and if you want to take your communication Journey to the next level you can book a free consultation call with us using the calendary link in the description to see if we can work together okay let's dive into it the very first framework I want to talk about is called as pads p a DS pads stands for Point advantages disadvantages and summary this is a very good framework to understand the pros and cons of a situation and cover it holistically it allows us to see both sides of the coin while communicating what our preference is let's go back to the topic that I was given years ago the power of clear communication if I I had the paths framework I would use it to answer in that topic like this clear communication is essential for workplace success it ensures that ideas expectations and instructions are understood leading to better collaboration and fewer misunderstandings the advantages of this are it improves team efficiency it enhances Relationships by reducing conflicts it builds trust and credibility but there are some disadvantages as well because it might require a lot of time and effort to ensure Clarity especially in complex topics it also might seem a little repetitive and oversimplified to certain members but to summarize clear communication is a critical skill it reduces conflicts builds trust though it demands time and attention to detail the benefits however far outweigh the drawbacks and that's how the pth framework can be utilized and while this is a very simple topic it can also be utilized for more complex subjects one of the most articulate speakers in the world Obama uses this framework very effectively he was asked a question on artificial intelligence and what he thinks about it and here's how he starts stating the advantages moves on to the disadvantages and finally summarizes his points is potentially even more powerful than we originally imagined now so my framework and in conversations with government officials private sector academics the the framework I emerg from is that this is going to be a transformative technology it's already in all kinds of small ways but very broadly changing the shape of our uh economy in some ways even our search engines you know basic stuff that we take for granted is already operating under some a High principles but this is going to be turbocharged it's going to impact how we make stuff how we deliver Services how we get information but that it can also do some harm yeah we can end up with powerful AI models in the hands of somebody in a basement Who develops a new small poox variant uh or uh you know non-state actors who suddenly because of a powerful AI tool can hack into critical infrastructure what that means then is is that I think the government as an expression of our democracy needs to be aware of what's going on the those who are developing these Frontier systems need to be transparent so that's bads but what if in some cases you don't have to give both sides of the coin what if you just need to stick to one opinion or one point itself and elaborate on that that's where the second framework comes in which is called as Oreo Oreo stands for opinion reason experience and opinion again let's go back to the same topic the power of clear communication we start off by giving our opinion on what the matter is we then give a logical reason for it we provide our experience and then conclude with the same thing with what we began here's what it can sound like I believe clear communication is a foundation of success in any workplace without it even the best ideas can lead to confusion and inefficiency the reason for this is that when communication is clear there's less room for misunderstandings this leads to smoother execution and increased productivity in my experience a few years ago I worked on a project where unclear instructions like to miscommunication between me and a colleague we interpreted the task differently and by the time we realized the mistake valuable time had been lost causing delays and frustration since then I've made it a point to clarify instructions early on by summarizing whatever the other party has said in an email on which we would get the approval and then begin the work this led to fewer conflicts and smoother execution so in my opinion clear communication is essential it saves time prevents misunderstandings and ensure everyone is aligned and that's how we can use the Oreo framework when we don't need to State advantages and disadvantages but instead just highlight on one point itself and Oreo can be applied whenever you're asked to give an opinion a suggestion some advice or respond to any question and these two Frameworks are fundamental for you to start articulating short speeches or any sort of responses you have to give when put on the spot but how do you start taking the first step pick any one of these two Frameworks that you resonated more with let's say for example if that framework is bads the next time you have a meeting or you have a presentation coming up try to frame a point using this particular framework itself prepare it and then start delivering your point whichever meeting you know you have to speak for and you know what you're going to speak on try to frame it in one of these Frameworks itself and then when your turn comes to speak speak about it using that framework once you understand how to utilize it in a prepared setting it'll be a lot easier for you to apply it when you're got of God and that's how we can step by- step improve our articulation when we are put on the spot but pad and Oro are just two Frameworks there are many many more that you can utilize to communicate in an articulate manner whether it's a short speech long speech or a simple conversation in fact we've created an in-depth video for you to check out on this topic you can go through it right here
