ST Microelectronics Presentation on Presence Detection Solutions

hello everyone my name is Chris field application engineer St and I help support our M sensors so I'm here at CES 2024 to introduce to you our presence detection solution uh using st's sensor uh Solutions so in terms of presence detection and human occupancy there's several factors that you want to consider um so one of the most uh important aspect is that the sensing system needs to be accurate and reliable in order to give you the correct um output in terms of the accuracy and uh and also where the user may be another aspect that you need to consider is that the sensing system may need to be a low power system uh in cases that you need to have the sensing system operate on the battery continuously um lastly another uh important aspect to consider is that you may uh want to enable additional feature on top of uh detecting presence so one of which could be determining the location of a person and how many people they are inside the room and the other aspect could be to enable uh touchless Gest uh gesture control so I'm here to to show you both of these um Solutions uh with two of our demos so I'll pass the ball to to S to show our first demo here thank you Grace so I'm showcasing the first demo here which is a ceiling mounted room occupancy sensor node so what we're showing here is uh we are utilizing our teos infer sensor which is detecting a user inside a vicinity or a room as it is a very low power sensor when it detects a person it wakes up the device um and then we use the time of flight to use uh better sophisticated features like room occupancy analytics so now I will show you the detection zone of the teos which is a dark blue circle and as I step in you can see that the on the visualization we can see that there is someone inside the room the light blue square is the detection zone for the time of flight as I step in now we can see that uh it says uh someone is in the room and it is detected by both the teos infrared sensor and the time of flight sensor now if I step on the left side of the Zone it says there is someone in the uh in the field of view on the left side of the room now I can uh ask if I can ask John to come in and stand on the right side now it says that both people are detected uh inside the room on both sides all right so basically what we are trying to show in this demo is that we can use the low power teimos infr sensor as a instigator to wake up the device so we can optimize Energy Efficiency and we are using time of flight sensor to enable sophisticated features like the room occupancy analytics and now I'll pause the ball to John for the second demo thanks Salman hi I'm John Heisel an applications engineer at SC mic Electronics I'd like to show you the second part of our uh presence detection demo here it's basically a wall mount thermostat first I'll approach the t-s will sense my presence and turn on the light now I'll approach the podium the time of flight will detect that I'm want to interact with the device by the proximity detection and then I can actually interact with the device in a touchless manner using gesture re inition such as left swipe or right swipe at the heart of these demos is the s new St ofal P detect one board it consists of the STS 34 pf80 teos P sensor as well as the v53 lhcx direct time oflight multizone sensor and the VD 6283 ambient light sensor we also have another add-on board for this demo of from sincere Ian which contains a digital humidity and temperature sensor and a volatile organic compound sensor used to display on the thermostat the environmental variables the St AVP detect one goes along with our St win box development kit which contains nine industrial sensors you can use the combination of these boards easily to prototype very quickly and collect all kinds of data for your application thanks for your time please visit st.com or you contact your local sales if you need more [Music] information
