Surviving the 100-Day Challenge

Today, we're starting a 100-day, one-chunk survival challenge with 350 random layers of blocks beneath us. To win the challenge, we have to make it past those 350 layers and reach the bottom layer within 100 days. Cool! I wonder what's at the bottom. Well, let's find out together. Alright! Let's do this! Okay, let's start the challenge. Yeah! Uh, what should we do first? Well, let's see. There's a chest over there. I guess the first thing we should do is see what's inside. Hmm. Pickaxes, shovels, axes. And there are even apples in here too. All of these will definitely come in handy. I guess we should use the tools to dig. This first layer is made of grass blocks, so let's dig over here! Okay! Alright! Looks like the next layer of blocks is cobblestone! Let's keep digging! We just have to dig! Yep, just keep digging down! So next up… Oh, what's this? There's a farm under these red blocks! Whoa! Nice! Incredible! Sweet! Let's dig! It's a carrot farm! Let's gather these up, too! Okay! In single-chunk worlds, we have to take all the food we can get! Alright, let's keep digging, Mikey! What's next? What is it? Huh? Oh, they're cherry trees! Oh! Great! We can get cherry logs! Whoa, look at the next layer! Amazing! Huh? Iron ore! Yay! Let's collect all of it so we can use it to upgrade our equipment, Mikey! That's great, JJ! My pickaxe broke! Well, I think we've gathered quite a lot. So how about we go back to turn it into iron ingots? Okay. Alright then. I'll use our furnace to smelt iron ingots. They're ready. Whoa! That's a lot of iron. Let's upgrade all of our equipment. Sweet. Alright! Nice! And with that, we each have a full set of iron equipment! Now that we've finished our upgrades, let's keep digging down. What's the next layer? Hey JJ, do you think we'll really need these swords and shields? I'm not sure. I made them just in case. But if we're just digging down, all we'll need is pickaxes. Hmm, well we don't know what's below, so let's be cautious. I still think there's nothing to worry about. I'll keep digging. And in that case, I'm guessing the diamonds are probably a- A trap. Huh? You worry too much, JJ. We have iron pickaxes, so I'm definitely getting some diamonds. Here I go! Huh? Wait, Mikey. Whoa, hang on! Hot! Hot! Mikey! It's hot! Get out of there! Ah! Oh, no way! Mikey fell into the lava. Huh. It turns out there actually was lava beneath the diamond door. No way! what about the dirt blocks let's try digging here too oh there's water underneath mikey it turns out the diamonds really were a trap oh i didn't think there'd be lava i knew it was something Still, now that we have water and lava, we can make a cobblestone generator! Huh? What's that? A mechanism to get endless cobblestone! Awesome! We've got lots of blocks, so let's head back up to the top and make it! And we can use cobblestone to make a base! Yeah! Okay, we'll start by building the cobblestone generator over here. I'll place blocks of stone like this. Then, I'll dig down a single block and pour the water out here. Mikey, can you dump the lava here? It worked! Sweet! Oh! Now if I dig up this stone, it'll generate another block in the same place. It'll make an infinite amount, so we can use it to build the foundation for our house. Okay! We've smelted the cobblestone back into stone. Now let's expand our platform. We'll extend it out quite a bit. This is where we'll make our base. Next up, let's build a house on top of this foundation. We're using two types of wood, like this. Then, I think we'll use the stone we just got for the roof. Now to put the doors over here like so. And it's done! Whoa! Next, let's place chests inside so we can store our items. Okay! Check it out! Here are all of the blocks we've gathered so far. There's a lot of variety. Whoa! There's a lot in here, too. We've also got this one. And food and stuff is in here. Oh, that's right. We have carrots, so we should probably make a carrot farm to survive. Yeah! First, we need a place to put our farm, so we're making another foundation for it. Next, we might as well use the wood around the sides and fill in the center with dirt. Then we'll place water and we'll till the soil. Now let's plant lots of carrots. That's a pretty big farm. It looks really good! Now we have a farm and a base. The cherry logs are a nice touch. I'm glad we found that lair. Well, let's keep digging down. We have to reach the very bottom by the hundredth day, so we'll need to hurry. Okay! The next lair is pumpkins. There are pumpkins below us, so let's keep digging. Oh, there are hay bales here. Sweet! Let's dig them up. Hmm, the water is pouring down. What's going on here? Huh? What's this? Huh? Hang on, there are lots of cows here! Oh wow, this is a cow lair. Oh, wow! I can see something below that. It looks like scaffolding blocks. Mikey, anvils are dangerous blocks that can fall, so we need to proceed carefully. They can fall? Yep. Oh, I know what to do. If we only dig up a single block... See? Nothing can fall on me. Hmm, well still, don't let your guard down. If the scaffolding breaks apart, won't all the anvils fall at once? Still, there are quite a lot of chests, so how about we use them to make a storage area back home? Good idea! Our storage building is complete! Whoa! We can put the items that we collect inside these chests! So let's gather lots and lots of them! Now we can keep heading towards the bottom! Sounds good! Whoa, note blocks! These are rare! That's good! They make noises every time I mine them! They're fun! Beneath this magenta concrete, there's stone slabs! Oh! Are there shulker boxes beneath us? Let's mine those! We can use them to compact our item storage. Sweet! I'm so excited to see what's next. Still, let's be careful. There might be more blocks that could damage us. But there aren't any besides cactuses. No. No, there are more. It's fine. We're already past the cactuses. What's next? Ah! Hot! Yo, Mikey, be careful. That's a magma block. Standing on those causes damage. I forgot about magma blocks. Well, Mikey, let's try to dig around us instead of digging under us. Okay, next up, we have stair blocks. Let's dig these up. Oh! What's the next layer? Are these blocks of bamboo? And there's redstone ore beneath it! Whoa! Alright! Hmm? What's all of this? Hang on! There's a layer of stalactites beneath us! Stalactites? So, for stalactites... Stand back a moment, Mikey. If you break the blocks above the stalactites, they'll fall down. We'll take a lot of damage if they hit us, so we need to be very careful. Got it! Let's head down without breaking anything. Alright. Whoa, this is wild! Whoa! Oh! Don't break the blocks above them or they'll fall! Don't touch! Careful! Alright, let's go ahead and break these redstone lamps. Then, let's break these leaf blocks next. Oh, we've reached some more colorful blocks! What's next? Whoa, look down there! Huh? It's a lair of zombies! There are more lairs too? How are we gonna fight that many zombies? I don't think our iron armor is strong enough to withstand that many zombies. Hmm... Whoa, there's even more farther in! There's no way we can handle this with the gear we have on. How are we supposed to continue? Oh, hold on. I have an idea. What if we damage the zombies by dropping stalactites on them? Great idea! But how are we supposed to do that? Well, first, we have to destroy all the blocks between the zombie lair and the lair of stalactites. I don't get it. But okay! Alright! Whoa! This is super tricky, but I think we're doing it fine. Can you come help? Let's make a path up to the stalactites, Mikey. Okay! Alright, the zombies are all gathered in a corner. Now if we break these blocks, the stalactites should fall. Here goes nothing! 3, 2, 1, go! Whoa! Sweet! They took damage! Nice! Now I'll destroy these. Whoa! Whoa, that got them instantly! Ancient debris? That's super rare. Really? Yep. This is the most valuable resource there is. If we refine them, we'll get netherite fragments, and we may be able to upgrade to netherite equipment. So, by smelting the ancient debris we found, we were able to make netherite scraps! Next up, I'll line them up like this, and then line up some gold ingots too, to make netherite ingots! Then if we take these netherite ingots to use them with the smithing templates, we can upgrade our equipment! I'll place my helmet along with these netherite ingots, and it becomes a netherite helmet! Upgrade complete! My chest plate's been upgraded too! Alright! All of our gear is now heavily upgraded! This is great! Okay, now let's keep digging deeper. We need to quickly get to the very bottom. The next layer is this farm full of wheat. There's so much wheat! It's a good source of food, so let's harvest it. Alright! Now we're back to digging down. Whoa! Netherite pickaxes are so fast! No kidding! They're also very sturdy, so they're reliable. Let's see here. Beneath that is... I've seen these before. Are these looms? Huh? Looms? And beneath these looms is another layer of chests. Awesome! Woohoo! Let's see what's inside. 3, 2, 1, open! Hmm? Let's see. What's all this? This is a... Bust! No, wait! There's an enchanted golden apple in the center! Awesome! What's the next layer? Hold on. Mikey, look! We finally reached the bottom lair! Oh, sweet! We made it to the very bottom! Hmm, but look at this, Mikey.

Do you know what this is? It's a statue for summoning the Wither. The Wither? Yeah, this must mean that if we summon the Wither here and defeat it, then we win.

Isn't the Wither super strong? I have an idea. Out of everything we've seen, there's one thing I'd like to use specifically for this.

A mace. Huh? A mace?

That's right. With a mace, I can jump from a high place to attack. It's a straight shot down here from the very top, and if I attack with a mace from up there, I should be able to defeat the wither in only one hit.

The best thing about using a mace is that it does more damage the higher up you are. Really? I think we got the materials for the mace and these wither skeleton heads from the lairs in the nether.

So let's head back up. Okay. All right.

And where are those materials for the mace? Oh, there they are. I need breeze rods and a heavy core. Now if I arrange them like this, I can make a mace.

Okay. Now for the wither skeleton skull. Oh, there it is. I'll take one with me and we're ready to go.

Let's go. Come on. Now let's summon the wither. Are you ready, Mikey? Yeah!

Go ahead! Okay then. If I set the wither skeleton skull right here, the wither will appear. Once that happens, we're rushing up the staircase and heading back to the top. Okay!

Then, we'll take down the wither with this mace. Here we go. Three, two, one, summon! There it is, Mikey!

Ah! Run! Alright, now we gotta hurry up to the base.

Now I'll take down the wither with this mace. Is it even safe for you to fall from this height? Yep, if you attack while falling with this mace and the attack lands, then it negates your fight. ball damage. Oh, wow!

I'll eat an enchanted golden apple, just in case. Alright, Mikey. Here I go! Three, two, one, jump!

The mace's attack power rises when I drop from high up, so I think I can take down the wither. In one hit! Alright, I did it! I defeated the wither!
