Body Planes and Sections

Introduction

  • Core concept in anatomy & physiology
  • Useful for examining anatomical images, CT scans, MRIs
  • Important for clinicians to recognize different views

Types of Body Planes/Sections

1. Sagittal (or Mid-Sagittal) Section

  • Divides the body into right and left halves
  • Cut runs from anterior to posterior

Visual Representation

  • Sagittal Section: View of body divided into right and left pieces
  • Frontal Section: View of body divided into front and back pieces
  • Transverse Section: View of body divided into upper and lower pieces

Conclusion

  • Recognizing these sections is crucial for interpreting medical images
  • Practice identifying these sections in different types of scans
