Overview of Pretérito Perfecto
- One of the four past tenses in Spanish.
- Translates directly to the English perfect tense.
- Used to refer to actions that have recently been completed.
Formation of Pretérito Perfecto
- Structure: Conjugation of the verb "haber" + past participle of the main verb.
- Example:
- "This morning, I have eaten."
- Spanish: "Esta mañana, he comido."
Conjugation of "Haber"
- Yo: he
- Tú: has
- Él/Ella/Usted: ha
- Nosotros: hemos
- Vosotros: habéis
- Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes: han
Creating Past Participles
- Verbs in infinitive can end with -ar, -er, or -ir.
- -ar verbs: Remove -ar and add -ado.
- Example: "Hablar" ➔ "Hablado"
- -er and -ir verbs: Remove ending and add -ido.
- Examples:
- "Comer" ➔ "Comido"
- "Vivir" ➔ "Vivido"
Irregular Past Participles
- Some verbs are irregular:
- "Hacer" ➔ "Hecho"
- "Escribir" ➔ "Escrito"

Usage of Pretérito Perfecto
- Recent Actions: Within an incomplete time frame (e.g., this week, this vacation).
- Example: "Esta semana, he ido a Italia."
- Today’s Actions: Actions that happened today.
- Example: "Esta mañana, he jugado fútbol."
- Past Actions Related to the Present: Without a specific time (e.g., never, always).
- Example: "Nunca he visto la nieve."
- Realized/Unrealized Actions:
- Already realized: "Ya" + Pretérito Perfecto.
- Not yet realized: "Todavía no" + Pretérito Perfecto.
- Example: "Ya hemos visitado los Estados Unidos, pero todavía no hemos visitado Asia."
