Overview

This lecture covers TCC's course placement tests, including procedures, requirements, accessibility, remote options, test preparation, and resources available to students.

Placement Test Overview

  • TCC placement tests help determine the appropriate academic path for each student.
  • Tests are taken in person on a walk-in basis at any TCC campus, or remotely if eligible.
  • No fee is required for TCC placement tests.

Testing Procedure & Requirements

  • Students must first meet with an advisor and have a testing referral on file before testing.
  • Advising appointments can be arranged via Starfish, with both drop-in and virtual options available.
  • TCC requires all placement tests to be taken at TCC and does not accept scores from other institutions.
  • Personal test scores are valid for 5 years unless TCC changes the test, in which case scores expire after 2 years.

Accessibility

  • The Accuplacer test includes an accessibility wizard for adjusting font, color, and line spacing during the test.
  • Alternative formats (braille, paper, large print, audio CD) are available for Accuplacer placement tests.
  • Students needing accommodations must apply through TCC Accessibility Resources.

Remote Proctoring

  • Remote testing is offered only to students living over 50 miles from campus or with severe health risks.
  • Eligibility for remote testing is reviewed by Testing Center staff, and approval is required.
  • Remote proctoring uses video communication; a computer with webcam and microphone is needed.

Test Preparation Resources

  • Students should create an Accuplacer account and use Next Generation Practice Tests by subject area.
  • For WritePlacer (essay writing), guides and sample essays are available from TCC.
  • Math preparation resources include Khan Academy, Purple Math, Kuta Software, and Math.com.
  • Writing support is available through TCC Writing Center tutors.
