OnCloud Surfer Next Shoe Review

and here we go with the oncloud surfer next H Swiss chocolate Swiss Army knives Swiss Miss all the good stuff coming out of Switzerland and this is one of them oh my goodness goodness goodness goodness H how many ways so I have not run in or dealt with or held or any of that stuff on shoes before and slapping myself with the shoe right there because where have I been obviously living under a rock because this shoe blew me away okay let's jump right into the full review of this shoe and I'm going to tell you why so the laces of the shoe we are going to start there are quite bubbly they actually have a little bit of a feel to them and that's interesting because normally we're with these like super padded fluffy U luxury blanket laces down here and that's not the case at all it feels just Duty bound okay it feels very utilitarian there ain't no stretch to it there's no messing around in fact the lace even says put me on put me on oh man moving into the upper we have these cool looking um well they're not really eyelets at all are they they're just bands of really um nice and and durable um string it's like a like a monofilament like a um really durable not stretchy at all material that really did uh an amazing job when cinching up and lacing up the shoe which we can talk about the fit here in a second um it worked really well with the tongue here and it works really well along the top of the upper and the upper actually uh doesn't have any uh fancy gizmos attaching to the eyelets like some of the other their shoes do it just is all down to business and it goes right here with the upper and then moving into the actual material it does work with some of this inlay that's kind of going on here but it's a very very minimal inlay that works with um the upper and it works this way down into the mid soole of the shoe and that when you really cinch it down and apply that runnner Loop here which I did this shoe goes from four-wheel low to all the way up to for fast man it just is such a day and night difference and I was not expecting this from this shoe being a plateless everyday trainer oh my gosh man I'm just my head is still spinning like the teacups down at Disney Disney World come on down to the comments here we go oh man and then looking at the tongue of the shoe it is thicker than than um you know some of the other shoes that we've been dealing with it almost is really as thick as like the mor V5 behind me here um it's got a a lot of ventilation um but it doesn't feel super duper thick on top of the foot it does not migrate one bit at all it's got almost like a flare where it's wider at the top and more never on the bottom here uh it does attach just underneath this asymmetric lacing oh yeah I forgot to mention that this is an asymmetric lace uh deal going on which actually works well pulling from the first toe towards the fifth and it you know kind of you know wraps wraps the top of the foot here we can talk about the fit here in a second ah so much going on on this basic shoe basic yeah right man oncloud you guys have been working on more than just chocolate over there I'm telling you um and then the upper does separate and does have a booty style um it's not even I don't want to call it a gusted tongue because the tongue goes into this this material here that becomes this booty that wraps all around the the the four 3/4 of the shoe here and you feel it around but it's not constrictive it's not like a like a second sock that you're wearing but it's just very seamless you don't feel any of the the material like you know we're going to pull out the insert we'll do it now we'll pull the insert out we'll talk about here in a second but you know using this booty here it really lifts the foot away or I'm sorry actually no it pushes the shoe away from the foot to create a little bit of space and there is like a friction free uh experience going on you're not feeling you're not feeling the separation of the tongue from the upper you're not feeling that inlay we talked about you're not feeling the laces you ain't feeling nothing except like a really plush um actually plush is not the word just a nice secure feeling uh without you know a bunch of ridges and bumps and stuff like that and then working our way back to the back of the shoe um some of these shoes it they have like a definitive beginning and end of where the heel you know pocket the heel collar and all this material in the heel starts and then the rest of the shoe begins that is not really the case here like I can feel the seam and whatnot um but you know that booty again is just working its way over that seam and and so it's it's adding protection and it's keeping that feeling away from the foot and going into a very nicely padded uh heel heel collar and just wrapping around the heel so some of the shoes we're going to keep talking about this heel collar you know they they stop with the foam with the cushion um just at above the heel bone and then it becomes that like really hard material that is not the case here there's that there's still some cushion going on even way down here as it touches the bottom of the shoe you know and that's considering that I have the insert out like there's still cushion there and it's cushion cushion cushion all through the heel but it flares inward in a good way to really lock down down that heel and then again once this speed Loop is is applied here this runnner Loop it pulls the the back of the shoe towards the towards the user and man it just it just locks you in and you are literally Off to the Races um I was here we go again not expecting it for Speed workor but that's that's what happened with the shoe it's just what happened hey what are we going to do we're going to love it that's we're going to do all right so we got an insert here that I was all gussing about the other day man but here it is again nice fluffy cushy not overly squishy or plushy like insert and that is just really well built um I do enjoy a good insert but I my expectations are not always going to be super high for factory inserts because well you know some inserts are just designed to be taken out and then you put your own insert or some aftermarket deal in and so companies you know some of them just don't really put a lot of effort into their insert like oncloud here it is um you know if if this is low effort for them then excuse me but I'm telling you this is a nice insert for the shoe attention was given to this insert just like the rest of the shoe and they get credit for that yes sir they do so putting my hand in here you know it's just it feels very well constructed oh man whatever is going on at oncloud they are they are showing up to work they got coffee going on all that cool stuff Stu you know wherever wherever this stuff is being made they're drinking hot chocolate but where the where the fifth toe meets and where the first toe is over here there's actually a little bit of raise of the midsole that kind of captures that momentum uh that that motion you know so that the toe is not allowed to migrate off to the side either way like it really kind of work to to bring in the foot and make it a continuous segment free uh seamless experience so amazing job on cloud this this right here this is it I'm telling you so let's uh let's talk about the midsole so this is a helon midsole there's all kinds of cool stuff obviously you see the holes here so my my experience like from a distance cuz like I said I've never really you know but I I've heard of these folks um just the up and down columns they just didn't look like fast or anything and you know I'm sure you know I just had my my this like negative opinion about it I don't know why um but here we are and and now they're slanted forward and I'm just down here being blown away I'm getting schooled by the Swiss down here um with this midsole um but it feels springy it feels pey I remember taking my first step on the Run checking this thing out we did a couple runs in this thing and each time it's like who unexpectedly like bouncy and impulsive and I'm looking down man and I'm running really some some super fast times and giving not a ton of effort um I don't know I don't know what's going on there there's just something something beautiful happening in this mol um my understanding is it's uh it's a little bit more firm than the original cloud Surfer this the cloud Surfer next so uh I don't have the original cloud Surfer so I can't speak to that but that's just what I saw in my research so we got the cool durometer here we're actually going to test the midsole uh hardness squish whatever you want to call it and we'll start here H we'll start at the midfoot and there it is 25 oh so you can see it maybe I don't know uh nope it just kidding it's um 26 so uh considering let just show you for demonstration purposes this is on the back of the shoe it's super duper h and there it is 71 so it the lower the number the squishier the material is okay all right and so next we have the cloudtech phase which uh it works on the top of this helon material here and it kind of does this slanting business down towards the front of the shoe and it ends just behind the toes here actually know just underneath the toes I'd say so the cloudtech phase is 17.5 and an area away from the cloudtech phase is 27 so the cloudtech phase softer and then the helon oh and the back it's a little bit harder is 34 back here helon and the for foot is 44 anyways so those are just some numbers but it tells you that there are two different uh compounds going on as far as squishiness goes squishiness there it is again even though is says it's a really hard compound I I feel like the geometry of this uh it reminds me of those trampolines that you see that don't have the Springs but it has those plastic uh slopes if you will it looks a lot like this and you'll notice that they're not all the same angle that there's a little bit of a difference in the midfoot here so I am very sure that they have considered each and every one of these angles as far as the midsole goes to give the ideal experience that I felt when running with the shoe I have zero doubt of that so we're going to grab our calipers here and uh you know let me know down in the comments if this is helpful for you guys to know exactly the width of the 4 foot especially around the landing platform at the maximum for foot I have 110 mm you know that's just one guy down in the basement checking out some some measurements but uh I feel like that might come up and be important for some of you guys as far as the width goes and then measuring directly above that 102 mm so you can do the math you can do the math and then figure out what that slope is but obviously just looking at it it does you know flare out on both sides which I definitely enjoy especially being a suating 4 foot midfoot Striker here where I come down hard on this part uh I did feel very uh stable and balanced and there wasn't a ton of rocking and rolling and unsafe stability issues going on with this shoe um again with the piness of this midsole um I did feel quite safe and secure and you know overall man it was just a fun experience in the oncloud surfer next so many words oh my goodness so moving on to the outo here there is no speed board going on in the shoe so um I I only know that because I'm looking it up and looking at all the other oncloud shoes um I don't have any experience with with the speed board so I can't really speak for it but it doesn't exist in this shoe um there's no plate there's no nothing going on um how how flexible is this shoe it's actually you know kind of on the stiffer side so you know maybe they don't need a plate I don't know maybe maybe that was the idea the whole time um it does save on weight in fact let's measure the weight right now men's size 11 is a 10.3 Oz and the sack High it is 37 in the heel and 31 in the 4 foot for a 6 mm drop all right that is a middle of the road sweet spot for me drop and we can talk about drops later on in a separate video but that's what's going on in the cloud Surfer next so moving on to the Alo the Alo you know it's fairly grippy and um you know this is actually exposed mysol this is not rubber placement of the Alo I feel was quite intentional and it you know sheds unnecessary weight I you know I'm getting that impression with this shoe that they really really considered stepped up the game Surfer next Surfer next Surfer next this shoe is awesome for the on running Cloud Surfer next all right so the link for this shoe will be in the description who is this for this can be an everyday trainer this can be um for Speed workor I don't know if I'd use it for racing there are better options for that and I don't know if I would use this for a super duper long run I think that there are better options for that I think this is a nice in the middle of the road want to pick up the pace every now and again do some fart lick training um type shoe um would I buy it again yes I would I would buy this shoe again the price is there
