Notes on Race Changing Concepts and RCTA Community

I have a question for you have you ever wanted to change your race I'm talking about completely transform like change the way your eyes look change your nose shape change your skin tone your lip size I'm talking all of that have you ever wanted to just change basically just change your race and this is a safe place so no judgment at all if you have ever wanted to change your race I not here to judge you because even myself maybe 10 years ago even more than that possibly I wanted to be white I really honestly thought my life would be better if I was a white thin girl with pale skin blue eyes blonde hair I thought I would get more attention I would get more friendships people would think I'm cool people would compliment me more and be like oh my God you're so pretty as you can see I am a black woman so that's not possible for me to convert and become a white woman and change my DNA and change my whole race because that's just not possible but let's fast forward to 2023 well 2024 you have been curious about what this acronym means and why it's Making Waves then you are in the right place in this section of the video we are going to be talking about all things rcta I'm going to give youall a definition show some questionable videos as examples and you're are going to see why everyone has been talking about the rcta community and maybe you have already heard about it but I'll be giving you guys another perspective so let's get into it yeah okay let's get straight into it so rcta stands for race change to another and eect stands for ethnicity change to another it's a term used on Tik Tok that basically refers to the concept of transracialism that's a word is that a word transracialism or it refers to the concept of being transracial which means that someone can transition from One race to another however some people in the community say that being part of the art CTA Community is not being transracial so I don't really understand the difference to be honest if anyone knows let me know but I feel like they're basically the same thing and just so we're on the same page I'm going to explain the difference between ethnicity and race because I know it can get confusing sometimes so don't feel dumb if you get easily confused by it so I'm just going to explain it to make sure that we are all on the same page so race refers to the concept of dividing people into groups on the basis of various sets of physical characteristics and the process of ascribing social meaning to those groups while ethnicity describes the culture of people in a given geographic region including their language Heritage religion and Customs so race is primarily unitary typically you can only claim One race but if you're someone who is biracial then it can get complicated just for the context of this video typically someone can only claim One race however it is common to claim multiple ethnic affiliations like you can say that you're Irish and polish or you can say that you're Nigerian British that's how ethnicity Works versus say race race is something that usually you're like oh I'm black I'm white I'm Brown so I hope that makes sense this is not like the clearcut definition but I thought I'll just try to share a definition to help you guys understand the difference between race and ethnicity while we talk about it because we're going to be talking about it a lot in this video so this race changing community on Tik Tok which is rcta they have been gaining a lot of attention these past couple of months and honestly I've never seen them on my for you page before but I have seen a lot of people make videos on YouTube about it so I was like you know what one day I was like let me just click on this video and see what it's all about because honestly I was like this race changing stuff does not sound brand new like I swear people have been doing this since the beginning of time but when I finally watched a video on this topic I forget who I I'm going to put like their picture up but I forget whose video I watched but after I watched their video I was like oh I have a lot to say about this so that's why I'm actually making this video so yeah mhm so this race change community may seem like a new thing but we have seen a lot of people for the past couple of decades change their physical appearance to look like another race and we will talk about this later in this video so let's talk about this community a little bit more some individuals in the rcta community aim to change their physical appearance and their DNA too apparently we can change our DNA now and they use a couple of methods to get this to happen the use of subliminals is a popular method people use to try to alter their DNA and appearance to look like the race that they want to look like and when I explain how subliminals work I think you'll laugh because when I read how subliminals work in the context of the rcta community I thought I was getting trolled subliminals refer to stimuli or messages presented below the threshold of conscious awareness these stimuli are designed to influence the mind without the individual consciously perceiving them subliminal messages can be presented in various forms such as visual images audio messages or even hidden words or symbols for example there are a lot of videos on YouTube and a lot of them are subliminal and I actually used to watch some back in the day when I wanted to be a millionaire I would actually Search up money subliminals then I would just click one of the First videos and then I'll just let it play I was hoping that listening to these sounds and watching these videos would help me become rich without doing any work to actually become rich and after a week of listening to these subliminals guess what happened I became a billionaire overnight you know my bank account was fat you know I moved out and now I'm planning on buying Tesla from Elon Musk they believe that they can manifest the way they look into how they want to look just by simply watching or listening to these subliminals here on YouTube and when I read I honestly thought I was being trolled I was like people genuinely believe if they listen hard enough that they think that their face will change maybe maybe they have to start teaching biology at a younger age in school because if one plus one is two then this is not adding up if all I had to do was listen to some audio sounds and watch some videos to change the way I look I would I would look like Beyonce by now so but what I have gathered from the rcta community is that everything is based on the power of belief these people believe just by manifestation and listening to messages and watching these videos that they can change and alter the way they look to fit the culture that they are aiming to look like sorry I mean Race So to fit the race that they're aiming to look like and a lot of people do believe this but I have not heard of one success story from this rcta Community but anyways I went on some Reddit forums about this topic of rcta because there are groups on Reddit that talk about transitioning and they give each other tips on how to transition from One race to another so anyways I saw a post so I wanted to read it um yeah I'll read it for you guys my name is so that this means cherry blossom I searched it up so I guess her name is cherry blossom so my name is cherry blossom or my English name Vicki I identify as trans Asian specifically Chinese it all started 2 years ago when I got into Doan and shout out to my previous video that I did on Tik Tok I talked about Doan which is basically Tik Tok but it's a Tik Tok that's only available in mainland China even before that I hated being the race that I was I always desired to be East Asian and often watched a lot of Chinese shows wanting to be just like the girls I saw well back to do my Fascination began when I saw a video about how doen was way better than Tik Tok I eventually downloaded it and became sucked in immediately I always felt like I belonged whenever I watched Chinese influencers and creators I didn't care a lot about the content but I really was so invested in their ethnicity I began listening to Mando pop watching C dramas and being super invested in their culture i continuously dreamt that I was a Chinese girl and I lived in hangu my pronunciation is not good sorry I decided eventually that I can only live in a fantasy for so long I began researching ways to become Chinese or at least appear so I follow a lot of do and makeup tutorials I've listened to countless subliminals do Chinese workouts learn their language and even buy from only Chinese Brands I've been mistaken for half asian biracial countless times and I'm really proud of my progress I want to share a no other trans Asian stories and hopefully make some friends okay so I know a lot of people that are part of these Reddit forums they're just trolls and they just join to basically troll people who actually believe that they can change their race so I'm not sure if this Comm is a troll like it does seem believable but there's a huge possibility that this person could be a troll and whether this person is a troll or not a lot of people in the rcta community think this way they have a strong attachment specifically to East Asian culture and uh certain features but they do have a strong connection and a strong attachment and a strong desire to be East Asian a lot of people in the rcta community feel like they are in the wrong race essentially they feel detached from their current race and that's why they have a strong attachment to the race that they are fixated on becoming let me just ask you guys a question if subliminals actually worked and you could actually change the way you looked just by listening to them don't you think that a lot of people would be doing that instead of going under the knife to get surgery subliminals are free so that's one thing you don't have to pay like $11,000 to get surgery these people do believe that they can change the race by just listening to messages videos and sounds that prom prom that I feel like um some people are on the internet too long yeah and if you search up rcta on Tik Tok you're going to mostly see a bunch of troll videos because I don't think anyone is brave enough to actually post their rcta Journey on Tik Tok because they will get clowned and trolled immediately but there is one account on Tik Tok that is not afraid to post about rcta they don't show their face though but they do post about ways that people can transition to other races and I saw this one video that they posted and my jaw is on the ground because I was like what is this anyways child let's let's get into that video so they posted a video titled how to turn Japanese or Nigerian as an rcta RC girl as an rcta person from Ireland so to turn Japanese according to them you have to watch anime eat noodles download pictures of BTS and say CAA when you thank someone act cute and pout and get a high pitch voice oh my God and ever since the rise of K-pop I have noticed that East Asian people have been seriously fetishized for the last couple of years like it's very bad and maybe it has always happened but it's really been brought to my attention now and I'm just like this is actually crazy people assume that all East Asian people are cute tiny like petite they're just quiet they're act young like they just have no brain I'm just like where did this idea even come from I'm I'm actually very curious how this idea of East people came to life cuz I've never really been into K-pop before I know like a couple songs that's about it but I don't actually like watch the performances watch the music videos I I don't do all that but I do feel like East Asian women are seen as quiet and childlike in particular and that's the reason why a lot of people say they're attracted to them and that's kind of makes me like oh so you're attracted to them because they look young and look like a kid that is very weird and concerning but but uh let's talk about how you can become Nigerian according to this person to become Nigerian you have to Eat Fried Chicken and watermelon wear braids act like you can't swim listen to rap and you know the te like Nigerian parents actually don't even like rap for the most part so this person clearly does not know what they're saying but I digress and you have to twerk a lot of times out of all of the dance moves in Nigeria they think twerking is part of Nigerian culture like maybe that person was just trolling like they they have to be trolling cuz if they're being for real like my faith in humanity has just plummeted if this person is being like dead ass dead ass anyways when I catch this person who made this list it's on site but anyways as you can see this community is full of delusional fetishizes fetishizer how do you say that fetishizer it sounds wrong when I say it but I feel like I'm saying it right anyways you know what I mean so basically they care about the aesthetic and the physical appearance of looking East Asian but they don't want the racist ISM that comes with it t and you can't do that you can't choose when being East Asian is beneficial for you because people who are actually East Asian they cannot choose when they want to be East Asian or not every day they're East Asian 24/7 so you cannot come here and be like yeah I'm going to be East Asian and then after a couple years you're going to go back to being how you were before but even though I'm saying that you can't do that people still do it regardless it does not matter I mean we have seen a lot of people do this I remember one point in time when everyone wanted to be black yeah I know you're remember that too but anyways let's talk about why the rcta community is nothing new and this is something that has been going on for a while so let's get into it part two new decade new race the fetishize I know this is a similar title to my previous video on Tik tok's beauty standards but I couldn't think of a better title and I feel like this one has a nice ring to it so we going to keep it in this section we are going to talk about how the race change to another Community Is Not A New Concept because before everyone wanted to look East Asian they wanted to look white then black now East Asian so let's talk about it so we are going to start with the early 2000s where being thin and white was in however I will say the idea of looking exotic started to form during this time period and that's because we had people like Beyonce Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna they didn't fit the mold of being white thin and blonde and pretty I mean oh they're gorgeous though don't get me wrong but they didn't fit that category still they were able to be popular during that time because of their talent and also they were beautiful and they are still beautiful but during that time I did see the idea of being an exotic form but it wasn't super popular how it's popular today anyways let's talk about being wh aned because that was that was a tee during the 2000s if you think of the 2000s you think of Britney Spears Christina agilera Kelly clarson Nelly Fado Ashley Simpson the list goes on and on and on and if you think of the most popular romance movies during this time the woman looked very similar you know the woman they had a similar look they were white and thin like that was basically that was legit list of how most of them look like it was rare to see someone of color hold these major roles if there was a black person or a person of color in these films they're most likely like the supporting actor or actress or they were the best friend of the main character basically during this time period embracing features that are typically associated with white people was praise and the beauty ideals during this time were bad because they wanted you to be super slim like no FAA no stomach no nothing you had to be like and they wanted you to have a tiny nose nice long hair a tiny lips growing up as a young woman of color during this time was not cute because all of us you know we all just kept seeing you know these beautiful white women that's all we were seeing yeah you guys are great but could we like you know add some diversity and now that I'm talking about this it actually reminds me of something that happened to me when I was younger and I want to share this story with you guys cuz I feel like most of you or maybe some of you at least can relate to what I'm trying to say and you can also understand the head spin SP that non young white girls had to go through during this time period so anyways this happened to me like during the 2000s I don't remember the exact year but it was around that time you know it's just one of those stories that like when you're older you start to understand the meaning of it if that makes any sense let me stop talking and get into that show story so my sister's birthday was coming up and my dad asked her what she wanted for her birthday and during that time the Barbie Mariposa doll was everywhere that doll was on all the commercials also the movie was coming out or it already had came out basically we kept seeing that doll everywhere and we thought the doll was so beautiful and just like perfect and me and my sister only 2 years apart so we basically played together and any toy she got I basically stole so my dad asked her what she wanted and she said the Barbie Mariposa doll it was her birthday but I still had a say because you know the youngest always has a say you know what I mean I just want to mention that during this time my dad did not live with us he was living back in Nigeria so anyways fast forward a couple of days he buys a doll in Nigeria and then he sends to us and when the doll arrived we were so happy we were so excited we didn't even wait I think it actually arrived before her birthday as soon as the box came we teared open the box peeled away all the layers of paper and when the last layer of paper fell to the ground we were a bit shocked because this wasn't the doll that we saw on TV or in the movie The Doll was black which makes sense because he bought the doll in Nigeria so that's a predominantly black country but we were not living in Nigeria that time we were in Canada and and we didn't want the doll we wanted the white blonde doll that we were seeing on our TV we ended up exchanging the doll for a white one and when I look back I'm just like dang like that's so like like obviously we're young and we have grown immensely from that but during the time period you know we all we saw was white so it was very easy to think that you had to be white and the only way you could be deemed attractive in this life was to be white you know that's what we thought but this is why representation is so freaking important okay can't keep showing one type of beauty and expect everyone to just be happy and okay with that beauty comes in all different shapes sizes and skin tones but the point I'm trying to get across is that being white during the 2000s was in that was just the beauty standard and the beauty ideal during that time but with the rise of social media during the 2010s I would say we started to see a shift from being white to being racially ambiguous or looking biracial so let's talk about that there was one point in time where every day a celebrity was getting called out for black fishing and if you don't know what black fishing is it is the act of someone who is not black pretending to be black with the use of methods such as makeup tanning I know some of y'all love to tan but tanning or technology like filters and Photoshop to appear black this was the era of having big lips and having a big butt and I feel like this is still in like it hasn't completely vanished but during this time it was sought after having big lips still having a slim nose but having big lips and you know fop is that a word Volus volumus you know what I mean like having like a wide curve having like nice hips and like a big bum that was the tea like that's what everyone wanted and the pioneers of this trend were definitely the Kardashians especially Kim Kylie and Chloe typically people Associated a big bum with being a black woman but when the media saw the Kardashians a white woman with a big bum they viewed that as exotic they were like oh like wow it was like they never saw a white woman with a big bum before but during the 201 T I swear Kim Chloe and Kylie were always getting called out for black fishing like every 2 seconds and at first I was like yes call them out you know we got to call them out called them accountable but after a while when they kept doing it like every 2 seconds I was like okay like what's going on and that's when I realized that they were just doing these things for publicity because as we know all publicity is good publicity it doesn't matter if it's negative it's publicity still because how many times have you heard the internet say that they're cancelling someone then next second that person is like winning a Grammy and they have a number one hit single also the 2010s is when we started to see the rise of the IG Badd and social media content creators especially on Instagram and most of them seem to fit a similar aesthetic they were trying to make themselves appear racially ambiguous or simply try were trying to look black Emma halberg is actually one of them and I remember when she went viral because people were calling her out because she was a white woman that looked very uh much black she went really viral a lot of people made videos on her there was some news reports on her and the outrage against Emma only lasted so long because she is still doing her thing she is still posting on Instagram she's a IG baddy I think she's toned it down a little bit when it comes to like the black fishing but she still does look very racially ambiguous and I mean it is what it is like whatever go do you Emma is one of the many people who have been called out for trying to appear black or racially ambiguous for financial gain or profit Ariana Grande Jesse Nelson IG zelia and I already met mentioned the Kardashians earlier but they also have been called out for appearing to look black during this time and I still feel like looking racially ambiguous or looking exotic is still seen as popular and still seen as beautiful however since the rise of K-pop I have slowly noticed people want to look more East Asian than look black as I said I still feel like looking black is popular but I am definitely seeing a shift in how people are presenting themselves online Okay so let's talk about our current decade that we're in the 2020s and during this decade I'm starting to see a lot of people want to look East Asian so let's talk about it and even though I'm saying that a lot of people do want to look East Asian now I feel like people have always wanted to look East Asian but it's just way more popular now with Tik Tok and social media and the rise of K-pop I mean take Ali London for example he's a popular influencer who is known for trying to look East Asian specifically like jimn who is a member of the South Korean boy band BTS and as you can see they look very much alike they look almost identical like it's hard to even tell that they're two different people their surgery started back in 2013 so obviously way before Tik Tok was even a thing just keep that in mind that people have always been trying to look East Asia however I do feel like it's more popular now oi London actually identifies as Korean even though he is a white British person so we love that and they actually made a tweet congratulating Jesse Nelson who is a white woman for coming out as a black woman let me just give the tea on that she didn't actually come out as a black woman but let me just let me just explain so Jesse Nelson was part of the very popular and successful girl group called Little Mix and she was part of that group I think for like 10 years is they were together for a long time but Jesse decided to go solo back in 20121 and she released her song called boys featuring Nicki Minaj she released the song and the music video back in 2021 and the backlash was very much backlashing because in the music video Jesse looked very much like a racially ambiguous woman she did not look white even though she is white a lot of people were calling her out for black fishing to add fuel to the fire Oli London decided to congratulate Jesse for coming out as a black woman because of her music video but she never actually came out and said that she's identifying as a black woman but I think she has said that the black culture has influenced her a lot and Ali London even went on to congratulate Ariana Grande like Ariana Grande posted this picture and people said that she was Asian fishing he decided to chime in and he congratulated Ariana Grande for coming out as Korean let me read what he said I'm so in love with Ariana Grande's new Asian look it look so cute and Oriental welcome to the transracial club Ari so happy to have you join me can we become the king and queen of Korea together already yeah cuz I'm sure Koreans want you two white people to be the king and queen of their nation and I really wish that Ali London was just a troll but this this guy's dead ass like he really thinks he's Korean he identifies as Korean he does not look Korean the surgeries do not look cute he looks like he should go on that show called botch because no like no as you can see this idea of looking Korean or just looking East Asian in general has always been a thing but I definitely do think it's more popular now and with the rise of this rcta community it has definitely become way more popular and more people are invested in looking Korean and you know the 2020s technically just started I mean like we're 4 years into it now but I am interested to see how this trend and fascination of Korean people evolves I want to see if more people are going to start looking Korean or aim to look Korean but I'm just curious if like maybe the Kardashians will start doing that I have to see how the next couple of years go because I don't know how it's going to go but I am definitely seeing a shift move away from looking like a typical black woman obviously black women are very beautiful and we come in different shapes and sizes so there's no typical black Wom but you know what I mean but now we're starting to see a shift away from that anyways just let me know your thoughts on that do you think that we're shifting away from looking biracial or looking black and do you think that we're shifting towards a more East Asian approach in our Beauty let me know cuz I am curious about your thoughts on that part three cultural appreciation versus culture appropriation so while the rcta community may find solace in their beliefs there's a potential Dark Side critics argue that fixating on East Asian traits can be become fetishistic and harmful the intense enamoration with East Asian appearances has led to accusations of cultural appropriation rather than appreciation so let's talk about the difference okay so I feel like we are so used to hearing about culture appropriation every two seconds so I want to start with culture appreciation so let's get into it so culture appreciation refers to the recognition understanding and respect for the values Customs Traditions art and overall contributions of a particular culture it involves a genuine interest in learning about and gaining insight into the practices and perspectives of different cultural groups culture appreciation is often characterized by an open-minded and respectful attitude toward culture diversity so some examples of cultural appreciation can look like buying cultural art created by someone from that culture or sharing something you understand about your own culture through your art or learning a specialize art technique from someone in that culture versus learning an art techque from someone who is not part of that culture cultural appreciation is an essential component for creating a more inclusive and interconnected Global Society because it emphasizes the importance of valuing and celebrating the richness of human cultural heritage however a lot of people don't do that so let's talk about cultural appropriation cultural appropriation refers to the borrowing imitation or adoption of elements from another culture particularly when those elements are used outside of their original cultural context and may carry cultural religious or social significance this term is often used to describe instances where members of a dominant culture adopt elements from a marginalized or minority culture without understanding or respecting the cultural significance back in 2013 almost like 10 years ago it's crazy but back in 2013 Sela Gomez was actually called out for appropriating Indian culture when she performed her song Come and Get It I forget what award show she performed performed her song at and she wore a Bindy when she was performing a lot of people called her out for cultural appropriation the Bindy on the forehead is an ancient tradition to Hinduism and has religious significance it is also sometimes referred to as the third eye in the flame and it is an auspicious religious and spiritual symbol it is not meant to be thrown around Loosely for seductive effects or as a fashion accessory aiming at Mercantile greed Selena Gomez should apologize and then she should get acquainted with the basics of world religion o and also I wanted to say that I did check my analytics and I'm surprised that I have a few viewers from India so that's really cool to see that my videos are traveling across different nations I am curious what you guys think about this topic do you think that she was appropriating your culture or you're like nah so let me know I'm just curious to what you guys have to say about that so while cultural appreciation involves a genuine desire to want to understand and learn from that culture cultural appropriation involves taking elements from that culture and not actually understanding the meaning of it before you use so with all of that being said I think it's safe to say that this rcta community is not cultural appreciation it is culture appropriation it's one thing to love a culture so much that you want to learn about it and just be so immersed in the culture but it's another thing to actually want to be the culture when you're not it's one thing to change your name to try to change your skin tone change the way you look and just try to cosplay as someone that you're not and I feel like one of the most aggravating ating things is to be mocked for something that is beyond your control such as your nose size your lip size your eye shape and all that nothing is more irritating than being mocked for that but then a couple years later some celebrity comes in and starts rocking those things that are not even natural to them like they had to get plastic surgery to get those things and then now everyone's like oh my God small eyes are in or oh my God big butts are in or big lips are in now like we this is what we want yet like a couple years back you were mocked for naturally having those things like nothing is more irritating than that hands down like there is nothing more irritating and this highlights a significant aspect of the problem with cultural appropriation and beauty standards it underscores the issue with Selective borrowing and the double standards that are present in the fashion and Beauty Industries but a lot of people are not seeming to get that and that is why we have this community called rcta you cannot choose to cosplay as a person of color just because you see it as trendy and cute and then once you you get bored you're going to go back to your old ways and a lot of people in this community have stated as I mentioned before they stated that they feel detached and disconnected from their current culture and race and that's why they want to change it and I can see like if I really try to if I really try to see like I can see where they're coming from because as a black girl who grew up in the suburbs I was called whitewashed many times but did I try to become white no so I do get it to a certain extent I know yeah it can be tough sometimes but finding another race to cosplay ads is not the solution so how about we stick to our own races for now does that sound like a plan great anyways thank you so much for sticking to the end of this video I know we talked about a lot it was a lot but yeah thank you for making it to the end of this video I appreciate you a lot thank you so much for watching and I really am interested in hearing your thoughts let me know what you think about this topic like do you think rcta is valid what are your thoughts on this did I feel free to shoot me a DM on Instagram let's talk about it and like let's get into it I'll do my best to reply it might take me a couple hours or even a couple of days cuz you know your girl gets
