Lichess vs Chess.com Comparison

Orly chess my darling I love this website I use it every day I use it for my daily games I use it for my YouTube I use it for study analysis learn and openings puzzles you name it when it comes to chess I use this website I absolutely adore it now that's not to say that chess.com is bad it's not it's a fantastic website and I used to use it all the time but I made the switch to Lee a few years ago and just as a quick video I just kind of wanted to talk about why now chess.com if you want to give me some money I will sell out in a heartbeat I will take that money delete this video and I will take a dump all over Lee chess but until that point let's talk about why I love Lee chess now chess.com is the absolute Titan when it comes to online chess it has a huge player base easy double the player base compared to Lee chess now that's not to say you'll ever be fighting for a game I get a game within seconds I've never had to wait but because of that kind of disparity between active users Lee chess can slightly inflate your ELO at lower levels sometimes it can actually be as much as 200 so just as a bit of a warning there around the 2000s the two sets of Elo kind of coales there H I do believe Lee chest calculat different but yeah around the 2000 you'll find that you'll have same kind of Elo between chess.com and Lee but lower levels Lees will kind of inflated there so I just want to give that as a bit of a warning as we start so the number of active users is a definite plus point in chess.com favor but let's talk about the obvious one it's the price I'm a little broke boy and chess.com your price and options are mental look at this puzzles locked behind a pay wall lessons Bots ads that is nearly six quid a month that doesn't even include postgame analysis if you want that that's a tener a month and then if you want coach an insights 15 quid a month now if you can afford to put down a big one-off payment for the year it is a bit cheaper so that comes down to 375 584 and 917 uh I can't afford to do that so I'd be paying the monthly fee and that is quite expensive very very expensive now I will give it to chess.com if money isn't an option then you do get higher quality stuff we will have a little look at Lees and kind of like the user interface and all the different things that are there if money isn't an option you do get higher quality videos you do get probably better puzzles and things like that but you are paying for it Lees is free it is completely open source there are no ads now there is a little button where you can donate if you want and all you get is a little picture of the wings that you can see from all of these wonderful people here who've donated you get this next to your name for the month and that just shows everyone that you've donated and that's it no other the functionality is locked behind the pay wall with chess.com when it comes to puzzles you get three puzzles for the day on the free version and that's it Lee chess as many as you want um now if you don't care about puzzles if you don't care about postgame analysis and you just using it for free you know all the free stuff then whichever platform you want it makes no difference they're both as freee as each other but if that extra functionality is a big deal to you and money is an option I would recommend Lee chess any day so chess.com we know you're making some fat stacks if you want to send some money my way I will sell out in a heartbeat so here's the main screen of lead chest it's all pretty straightforward you know if you want a two plus one bullet click on that and then within seconds you will be in a game I have something in my eye uh if you want a correspondence something a bit longer you know like day long time controls you can make something like that um and then you've got lobbies of different time controls that people have made and then just click on the name you'll hop into it very straightforward on the left here you'll have different tournaments which you're going on so just say there's a under 1500 rating bullet tournament you click on that and then play against a couple of hundred other people who are all under 1500 and you can see where you come H out of all of them you'll play game after game after game and it'll go on for something like an hour or something like that that's all pretty straightforward let's look at this wonderful bar across the top now another point that I will give to chess.com for variations of different types of Chess uh they have so many you know like they'll come up with like loads of like different versions of Chess and you know like with weird rules and stuff like that they've got it all there so if that's your kind of thing chess.com is the place for that but just for bug standard chess I just I just use Le chest just because it's where I play everything so we'll start with this bar here puzzles if you just W bug standard puzzles on whatever just click on puzzles and then you've got unlimited keep going until your heart is content if you want something a bit more thematic you click on the puzzle themes so it could be standard opening puzzles mid game end game Rook end game you get the idea there or if you want to go for more you know just say you're studying the French defense and you want some french defense puzzles you click on it so it's there as black but if you want to be playing against the French defense you just click white and then it would change it for you or if you just want to mix between the two and it'll chop and change there you can also choose if you want it up to 600 E or higher or easier depending on you know how difficult You Want It by clicking this doesn't seem to actually be showing up here when I click on it but there we are so you can change it up to 600 or higher down to 600 or easier there so I've just moved my where my face is just to show you this in regards to puzzles a super cool feature now I've just played a really quick game there I have intentionally chucked in a few blunders just cuz it is important just to show you this you click on the analysis board button from here you have the full engine breakdown of your game because again analysis is completely free and it will show you on here where there's been any inaccuracies mistakes it'll give you a breakdown here for how accurate you've played and your opponent there and you'll have this nice little graph move by move showing you where there's been any blunders mistakes blah blah blah now where you've made mistakes you can click this learn from your mistakes button here let me just scroll back up and then it'll take you to wherever any of your mistakes were in your game show you the move that you made and then you can try and work out what the better move would be from there which I think is absolutely fantastic literally making puzzles out of your own games another cool thing let me scroll down oh I'm going to have to move the screen slightly in OBS let me just pull it up it's this button here the recommended puzzle so I played the English and I played a variation of the English The King's English variation you just click this at the end of your game and then it will make you a bunch of puzzles in whatever opening whatever variation you've done and you can just play them until your heart's content there and I think that's absolutely fantastic not only are you learning from the mistakes of your own game you then can do puzzles around whatever opening whatever variation that you've played and I really really love that and that's something that I use fairly often on not a huge puzzle guy but um yeah I just thought it was really really cool some of the puzzly things that they have you have puzzle streak where you go is many let me move my face again oh my God there we are so you just do as many puzzles as you can they get increasingly harder as you go uh you can see so you can see that it kind of counts up there so go up to three there and they'll get increasingly harder and you see how long you can last before you make a mistake and then you've also got puzzle Oopsy Daisy puzzle storm um which is a 3 minute counter and you see how many you can get within 3 minutes pretty straightforward but plenty of functionality there if you're a kind of puzzle loving person there right let's move over to learning so the learn section if you're brand new to chess there's the chess Basics so if you want to learn how a rook moves yay now I know how a rock moves um so you've got all that there lead swing back and it's got it for all the pieces you know all the kind of fundamentals of learning how to play chess um so that's there if you need it there's also this practice section and I think this is pretty cool it's got all the different Checkmate patterns teaches you how to do skewers you know slightly more advanced things Desperados all that good stuff looking for key squares and it'll have between like four and 20 different puzzles for each of them there now the main one that I want to show you is my favorite feature on this and it is the study section this is Absolut absolutely fantastic now this is all user inputed stuff so with chess.com it is like specially made high quality stuff um you are paying the premium for that however a lot of the user generated stuff on here is absolutely fantastic so it could be anything from you know like por end games you should know how to crush the carolan these are all the most kind of popular ones all the games from the World Chess Championship just there but let's just say you want to learn the English so I actually searched for this here you click on it now you can see there's a lot here around the English what I do is I look for the one with the most heart so you can see this one has heart 6,100 it's probably the best one so let's click on it and this is going to teach us all about the English for this there's 17 chapters around it and we'll have this lovely little squid who will take us through it so the English is p C4 next chapter so yeah we've already done chapter one look at us so we do that and then we press space and then we work out what the next move would be now next move would be bringing out the horsey but let's just say you do the wrong move then comes up oh no retry it and then you'll keep going until you get it right and the horsey will kind of talk you through as you go there and this is for the symmetrical and it'll have one for reverse Sicilian Anglo Indian you name it it is absolutely fantastic and here we have one of the main reasons why I love this study section I am currently studying from the book master and chest strategy by Johan hson absolutely fantastic book setting up the pieces on an actual chess board for each and every position takes ages it's so much easier doing it online I've typed in master and chess strategy by hson now again it's a little bit cluttered which is part of the problem with it being kind of user put in but we can just scroll down look for the one with the most Hearts here we have 178 that should do it and oh look at this I moved my face out the way just to show you this it has all of the text this position is already set up and it talks through every single part which is in this book from this exact game and it's got quite a few of the games in there now it's not the entire book that's possibly illegal especially if it has everything in uh there might be some copyright issues but it's been super super handy for that um I absolutely adore this study section it has been so handy like I say just for learning openings or helping me for studying through different books it has been absolutely invaluable all right just looking at a few more features that I use very very let's look at a few more features that I use pretty often uh analysis board super super handy um like I said I use this all the time um mainly I use this for when I'm setting up positions for the YouTube videos um it's just super handy like I say so let's just say we go for I don't know this then we'll do a quick English let's just say he comes out with this you got the analysis border it will show you what the better moves are so it is seeing this um you've got the analysis bar at the side there and like I say it's just really handy again you've got this button here which will show you the um leest most common moves by far um or the Masters and again who've played it um it's just really really handy uh if I want to set up certain positions I can go do the board editor and then I can just set up the position however I want it for if I'm talking about like a certain puzzle or what ever I just find it really really handy and then just so we continue from here we can either continue and play against the AI or we can H jump straight into the analysis board from there to have a little look again really really handy now it's got some other little bits and Bobs as well on the watch section you can if there's any uh broadcasts going on so you've got the guitar Masters there which starts in 13 minutes um or you know whatever you can click on that and you can watch it or if you want to just see whoever the top rated play people playing at the time you can click on this and then you can just sit and you can watch their games and that's a pretty cool feature as well also on the front page as well it'll have like a random high level game that's going on and again you can click on it and just watch straight away from there just quickly leest does obviously have an app now there's two versions of the app there's the normal one uh and there's the beta I recommend the beta now the beta some of the functionality still hasn't been implemented yet but it is just such a smoother user experience against that beat that app is a thing of beauty I'd love it so I do recommend checking it out if you want all of the functionality in the app then just the bog standard Le chess app is absolutely fine but that's enough about me gushing about it um I love this website I really do um now again it's not to dump on chess.com chess.com is a fantastic product but it comes at a premium now when you do pay that premium you do get a higher quality product their video lessons are vastly superior to the stuff that you're going to be finding in the study section here again with the study section there is a bit of sifting through the garbage to find the diamonds but I really really respect what they do it's free it's open source there's no ads I absolutely love it and even if I was a bit more flush for cash and had that 15 quid a month just to spend on chess I would probably just do near to them because I really respect what they're doing but again it's each to that one this isn't me seeing chess.com bad you should come to Lee chess this is just me saying I really like Lee chess and I really think more people should use it so yeah that's about it you guys go off have some fun and um I'll catch you all later
