in this video we will be going over the difference between requests and demands the following phrases can come across as a demand which builds tension and blocks communication such as I'm Justified I deserve I'm entitled I have the right to my grades you are supposed to do this you're supposed to grade my test imagine what that would do to the communication the quality of commun communication if the student had said these things whereas in a request builds trust such as starting with your request are you willing to um how can we work together to complete this I'm curious will you be able to do this by the end of today now asking a question does not always guarantee that they are heard as a request there's more to a request than just it's a question but a request asks with honesty for the other's true answer to your request and even if their answer is no whereas a demand might you might be persuading someone to comply it's not honest there's some persuasion in there possibly the request the intention of a request is to support both of your needs the person asking the request and the person being asked of something such as the needs for ease or health or well-being
