PortalGuard Access & Troubleshooting

Overview

This lecture covers access procedures and troubleshooting for the PortalGuard portal at City College of San Francisco, including login formats, password assistance, and multi-factor authentication.

Current Service Status

  • DegreeWorks access issues are ongoing with no estimated time for resolution.
  • Other services like Canvas, Self-Service Banner, and Zoom remain available and unaffected.

Portal Login Process

  • Access the MyCCSF Login Portal to enter your username and password.
  • Options to remember username, show password, and remember login are available.
  • For new users or forgotten credentials, click "New to RAM ID? Forgot Password?".

RAM ID Username Formatting

  • Students use their Student ID number as their username (e.g. W00000000 or @00000000).
  • Staff/Faculty use their network login (e.g. jsmith).
  • Links to training videos are available for both students and staff.

Password & Account Assistance

  • If you forget your password, follow the "Forgot Password" instructions.
  • To change a known password, use the "Change Password" option and provided instructions.
  • Users who forget their username can access the "Forgot Username?" link.
  • Submit help tickets for additional support at https://helpdesk.ccsf.edu.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Enrollment

  • MFA setup includes phone, authenticator apps, and QR code methods.
  • Options to make a specific method your default OTP (one-time password) or MFA method are provided.
  • Confirm phone number and email address as part of MFA process.
  • Enrollment for Duo Security and BIO-key Mobile Authenticator is available.

Security and Policy

  • Users must accept the Network Acceptable Use Policy before accessing portal features.
  • Terms of Use are presented during the login process.

Key Terms & Definitions

  • RAM ID — A unique login identifier for CCSF services (Student ID for students, network login for staff/faculty).
  • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) — An extra security step requiring more than one verification method for login.
  • OTP (One-Time Password) — A single-use code sent as a part of MFA security.
  • Duo Security — A specific MFA solution used for login verification.
