it turns out the death of the Lego Star Wars helmet collection was greatly exaggerated as after a one-year Hiatus it has returned with the 080 driver set number 75429 was 730 pieces and this one sells for $70 kind of the going rate for most Lego Star Wars helmet sets at this point by the way I don't know who needs to hear this but the top of your box saying tbtt is not a misprint or an error it's a translation for another country I saw a lot of people when they would get their UCS atat think they had some really weird box but that's not the case it's just a transl now before I unbox what looks like a beautiful set I want to briefly discuss how the timing of this release is so horrible this is a set that's coming out about 3 months after the retirement of the UCS 80 and it's also a set that conveniently was rumored to release in early 2022 which would have been just a few months after the release of the UCS atat and it got cancelled I think what ended up happening was a set like the Luke Skywalker pilot helmet was chosen over it by retailers or something to that effect and so this one just got pushed to the back and they were probably never going to release it but people seemingly really wanted helmet sets to come back which you know I'm in that boat too and after they had more or less canceled the helmet line they're like ah let's bring it back and and this is kind of what they've started with and it's not the worst timing right A lot of people that bought the UCS at8 over the past few years are still going to buy this but having them on shelves side by side is always a bit different than one coming after another but yeah let's un boxes thing inside you're going to find six numbered bags one of those pesky sticker sheets and an instruction manual inside of which there's a onepage write up about the at8 driver so as I built this thing it kind of dawned on me that it's got to be the most intricate Lego Star Wars helmet set build to date and the outside might not show that 110% but if you just pay attention to the fact that there's so many different angles in pieces that move individually when you push on them you kind of get the idea that yeah there's a lot going on underneath the Hood so I kind of actually want to tear away at this to show you that so one of the first things you'll notice they covered it up but these pieces are literally just hovering here it's kind of wild you don't see that a lot and with that other side piece removed you can see the crazy angle that this Technic piece is in there at to hold on to the front of the face of the atat driver like just some insane stuff going on underneath the hood there's more in there it's just a fun intricate build it's probably the best way to describe it but yeah it's it's pretty nuts I just think building this set gave me a lot of appreciation for how many crazy techniques and angles they had to use to get this thing to look as good as it does now keying into some of the specific things on the helmet that I like and dislike we'll start with this Imperial logo here it's printed on a very nice dish piece same exact style as they used for the 2020 TIE fighter pilot helmet and I think it looks great here they definitely executed that well now in the middle of those two printed pieces is somewhere where I think everyone kind of agrees this set is real messed up and that's going to be the coloring of these stickers stickers I don't think of as inherently evil although it's certainly becoming that way as the prices continue to increase and the quality of the stickers goes down and this is a great example of those stickers being lesser quality the gray just doesn't match the gray it's simple look at the like I mean that's a good angle to show it I think I probably have some camera settings that make it look a bit nicer but this is a really off gray compared to that gray in real life and it really sucks it's something that didn't really used to be that way I don't think and all of a sudden it just is like I don't know why that's something that a billion dollar Corporation can't get down or just print the pieces you know that's a solution too they printed these it looks nice you don't print these doesn't look so nice the black stripe also ends up with a gap which was going to happen whether you had a print or a sticker unfortunately but at least with the sticker you can push it as close as you want so uh you can try to get that Gap to be very minimal there another potentially crazy solution would be to actually cut this sticker before you apply it so that it's only the black part of the sticker that's applied to the set and you just cut off the off gray color and actually I think that would make your set look much better this whole top and rear section of the helmet is very well sculpted so no complaints there looks great but then we find ourselves staring down the barrel of another mismatch sticker with this red arrow or stripe sticker looks nice as far as the red goes and then the gray just messes it all up because why not and then you've got another mismatch gray sticker over here so yay we did it again again yay Lego Star Wars mismatch stickers every time woo like what happened what what a shame I don't know it just seems like such a simple problem to fix they just print a few different ones until they get the gray to match the gray you know I don't know I don't know why they can't just adjust the shade a little bit now these like canister looking things on the back here are what the tubes on the pilot helmet attached to they're supposed to attach to the bottom and it kind of feels like they've given you the option to attach some tubes there with the studs however it's not included so it's kind of a bring your own tubes scenario unlike on the TIE fighter pilot they gave you your own tubes there but yeah that's just not something that's included on the atat pilot helmet and I actually don't mind it here I think if it was something that was supposed to be on the front I would certainly care more but I don't think it really needed to be there and I think it looks uh quite good without it there's other little things on this helmet that show nice attention to detail like having one red dot on this side versus no red dots on this side just like little things like that are nice and as we kind of work our way down the face of this helmet you can see it looks quite nice I do wish that you can see that red in between the mouth I think they intend for you to try to keep the mouth like this but just every time I touch this thing yeah it gets kind of knocked off and you can see the red in there I just wish it was gray in there like it's just one of those things they do that on models all the time where you can sometimes see through and you'll see the wrong color and it's kind of annoying especially on something like this that's really a lot of gray it's very apparent when bright red is peeking through the middle of it now looking at the helmet dead on this might be a bit of a hot take but it might be the most menacing like mean looking helmet set even more so than the Dark Trooper which its whole Essence is to look mean from the front on I feel like but this guy's just got a mean looking face the mouth by the way printed ventilation or whatever it is supposed to be yeah that's nice wow wish they could have printed a lot of other things on this set cuz you'll see a couple other pieces here on the side that are also stickers with the off gray yeah I mean it's just that off gray just this set would be so perfect if everything was printed it just would be I it's crazy how close they were now when it comes to the display stand on the front it's got the printed Lego Star Wars display plaque where it has the AT-AT driver name and then the design for the stand is the same as all of the other ones which is phenomenal that's what I want I like that continuity across a subline like the Lego Star Wars helmet collection it's just nice to see that continue here technically the bottom is a little bit different they used to do this thing where they would have colored studs kind of match the helmet and they just stopped doing that here for some reason now I have to show this one displayed with the Stormtrooper and TIE fighter pilot I think that's the best Trio you can do with this at-8 driver however you can also of course add that scout trooper and Darth Vader for some more Imperials alongside it I think it also obviously is going to go great alongside a UCS at80 although that might be a bit more of a logistical issue when it comes to how to fit those two things on the same shelf so ultimately I think this is a great addition to the Lego Star Wars helmet lineup I hope it continues on for many years to come it has has given me some hope that they will be more interested in doing more Niche Lego Star Wars helmet sets it's $70 so I certainly feel like at least in the realm of Lego Star Wars helmets it is fairly priced I just hate the stickers just fix the color on them and they wouldn't be so bad it's just that they're off-colored I'm not someone that wants it to be printed every time I can live with stickers you just can't have them look terrible you know that's what's happened here with Lego Star Wars sets recently I would still recommend picking this one up but if you're into modifying your Lego sets I think cutting the stickers and getting that off gray color out of there would make this set way better than it already is and it's already great so let me know what you think about this atat driver helmet in the comment section below leave a like if you guys enjoyed and you can check out more Lego Star Wars 2025 Cent reviews on the end screen now
