hey y'all this is professor mccurry continuing one with the appendicular skeleton we're currently looking at uh the femur two of them um this one would be a right femur all right and this would be uh laugh femur um this is the distal end of the femur which is where the knee is right the head here this rounded thing is on the medial side um and then you know we're currently looking at the anterior side of the femur this would be the posterior side you can see the sort of raised ridge on the posterior side you can also see this marking here this is the lesser trochanter which is on the posterior side so the femur to me kind of looks like a modified humerus i mean it does have a head supported by a neck and head being on the medial side on the lateral side instead of a greater tubercle the femur has a greater trochanter you know besides the size of things another sort of difference between the femur and humerus is that the femur is kind of flipped front to back i'm not going to make sense when you consider that your knee bends backwards but your your elbow builds forward so over on the posterior side you can see the the lesser trochanter remember the lesser tubercle of the humerus was on the anterior side running between the trochanters you have the intertrochanteric crest you know the crest between the trochanters um and right about here is the gluteal tuberosity right one of your gluteal muscles attached to your butt muscles um as we kind of move along distally on the posterior side here posterior side of both femurs this is the linea aspera it's an attachment site for several muscles over here on the knee this smoothed smooth area here and here these are the two tuber goals right i'm sorry sorry these are the two condyles right sorry brain rainfart for a second there um so if we look back here's our head right so this would be the medial condyle right and this would be the lateral condyle um you know just above the condyles we often have epicondyles right so this would be the medial epicondyle and then over here is the sort of the lateral epicondyle in between the two condyles we have an intercondylar fossa right intercondylar fossa um i guess the one marking i'm you know forgot about uh you'll notice there's a sort of indentation on the head this is called the fuvia capitus or capitus referring to the head so as far as which femur is which [Applause] if you imagine for a second the front or anterior side of a person right you put this over here on the lateral side this goes distally this would be like a person's uh right femur right and this one would be this would be left
