Creating Journal Opening Balances

Overview

  • Transfer of legacy account balances to a newly configured company.
  • Use of batch jobs in Business Central.

Configuration Packages

  • Use configuration packages to transfer data between companies.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Configuration Packages:
    • Use the Tell Me option.
    • Create a new package (e.g., "My Pack").
    • Look for "Item Journal Line."
  2. Export Data:
    • Include fields such as entry type, document numbers, etc.
    • Export to Excel.
  3. Import Data:
    • Open the new company (with no initial data).
    • Use "My Pack" to import data.
    • Manage any errors found during the import.
    • Verify data such as posting date, document number, etc.

Applying Packages

  • Apply imported data to configure opening balances.
  • Manage item journal lines for sales, purchase, etc.

Validation

  • Ensure the opening balance date aligns with the fiscal year start.
  • Check the Chart of Accounts for the correct opening balances.

Creating Journal Lines

  • Process:
    • Define entry type, document number, posting date, etc.
    • Select item and vendor details.
    • Create and validate journal lines.
    • Post to the correct accounts.
