Exploring Modern Slang Terms

I text you and you don't text me back [Applause] you're El so today we have a special guest L that's [Music] where is located I'm actually from Orlando where where dis is why are you consistently saying I don't know 23 years old you born in 2000 oh gosh [Music] useful let's get this started Okay so so the first word is uh down or so down basically so the sentence that I'll use to describe it is hey would you be down to go get a drink with me ah now in English down uh obviously is the direction but in like gen Z slang and kind of it's more popular not just gen z um but it's a pretty young thing to say uh would be like are you okay with are you do you want to uh are you down to sure so when you're inviting someone so do you want to Jo down Direction but it's also maybe not as much slang anymore honestly I think people use it more yeah yeah you down to go get a drink that this how about uh like I'm so down like I'm totally down let's go oh yeah I'm down yeah I'm down m how did this start it though how did it I'm wondering why they started using it though is it more like hey come down and let's go somewhere like you know like come down maybe I actually don't know I don't know where it comes from I'm so happy you know before I would say oh I don't know why this happens or why this is this and then I feel like I was like guilty of not knowing anything but since know saying that he doesn't know why yeah what kind I what can I what kind I ghosting is the next thing or being ghosted it's a verb and it happens to all of us I think even maybe like the Dead uh it just basically means means like you're interested in somebody or looking to get a response from someone and then they ghost you I.E they stop texting you stop replying I ghost you but I don't yeah I I text you and you don't text me back you're ghosting me so it's becoming more and more prevalent because lots of people aren't texting people back in the US particularly in dating but you can also use it in a casual business sense as well like uh is a client responding no he's ghosting us what's the term privating in the middle prevalent prevalent go go prevalent means and this isn't slang but prevalent is like very very popular like um lots of lots of people do it lots of people do it maybe not popular but it happens a lot prevalent happens a lot hi so more popular why wouldn't even say popular popular means that it's kind of it has a more positive context and so like if a word is more popular it means it's trending but it's not necessarily trending it's just kind of being used more it's being used more yeah yeah yeah less subjective just [Music] Bieber PR is s now this term has been all over and it's kind of getting a little bit old but I think it's still applicable right it still has meaning simp is basically when somebody is doing too much for somebody else romantically right romantically so like if I really liked anian and I would take off my work and spend a lot of money on her then I would be a s I would be sing for anjian then well maybe anian doesn't like me back doesn't matter right hi I learned today I learned don't have it's not a good word so simp is B I'm simping For You simp and noun and and adjective it's one of those kind of like English words that has a very uh it's it's uh very applicable right you can use it in a lot of different context right I am a s I am sing so as a verb and then he was simpish that is a simpish thing to do would be an adjective hi like you a s okay oh yeah hi hi hi them them maybe make somebody a little frustrated the show have the best context you're being a s don't don't be a Sim don't be a s hi hi hi would be bet okay so basically a bet or big BET right uh so not the usual bet not the usual bet not not not giving money for things it's more like you're interested in doing something if someone were to offer to go out for a drink with you and you were very interested in going you could respond with bet or if you were very very interested like super excited to go and be like big bet let's do this bigi hi wait wait wait so I would ask you I saying hey Alie do you want to drink out bet oh casual very casual very casual and it's much younger when I was talking about like are you down earlier that's maybe more Millennial and genen Z but B is probably more gen Z yeah only jeni only ji only yeah yeah more younger people yeah yeah like Big [Music] B the difference different different it's it's different context for the word we we made the word more casual with just using it by itself you bet is kind of older you bet bucko you bet bucko Buck what Buck bucko uh uh it's like a buddy friend referring to somebody younger oh yeah yeah yeah yeah it's more casual if I were in like 40s and if I would say bet ah maybe for some people it depends it depends on your personality hi hi so so stay stay [Music] G maybe you don't know a so extraness extra extra read all about itra you're so extra yeah she knows it she knows extra she knows extra got him it's like when you're being too much when somebody is doing something that is maybe a little embarrassing or they're doing too much of it like being too loud in public you're a little extra even though you might be having fun you know you're being extra because you're being too loud or like if somebody were hitting on somebody a little too much like a girl hitting on a guy they might be told that they're being extra uh maybe with how energetic you are yeah yeah yeah the monster is not as much most usually um used towards someone's action or attitude yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah it's not about how much monsters you have but after you drink it you'll probably be so what I been extra hi after say you after after after you drink 10 monsters yeah yeah you would be [Music] extra personal action you being extra you're being extrao you say it behind people's backs she's so extra yeah or you could be like that was a little extra between so okay okay that's too much T so too much too much which would be soft launching something or a soft launch soft launching it's like trying something without fully trying it oh that's why it's a soft launch soft launch hi hi hard launch for a rocket goes up hard hi it's like a it's like a you want to try something trying it a little bit man for example for for example like if you were to post a picture of kind of do uh but on your story instead of your feed so instead of making a post that's a soft launch it's not permanent not permanent so if you break up it's okay ah so it's uh only for like La relationship um primar relationship hio you could also soft launch like uh maybe a hobby maybe hi maybe just mentioning the fact that you're starting a hobby but but not actually inviting people to do it with [Music] you yeah n to maybe verb as well I soft launched him oh I soft launched him yeah yeah like when you're posting your boyfriend your your girlfriend you are soft launching them okay okay what about uh busu yeah oh actually actually you might more more now I think you might be able to get away with it if you're younger hi hi hi like if you don't fully commit to a new project you're just like doing a little bit of work on it you might be able to say we soft launched that project in in a business con girl boss girl boss girl the you know boss girl boss is kind of like a concept casual and funny like female empowerment but you can also use it for guys too like as a funny way you know yeah yeah yeah so she's garos yeah yeah yeah so she's being a girl boss oh she's being a g BOS yeah yeah it's like a noun but you can also like verb it as well a little bit so it has to be a context related to female it's highly contextual okay and no no no no not not entirely it came about as a joke with girls trying to Hype each other up basically like she's so girl boss but now everybody can use it basically St St did you hear Olivia just got a new job that's totally a girl boss moment though did you hear that Kevin uh started rock climbing he's so girl boss gender doesn't matter all or that moment when someone accomplished a new thing a new thing or does something impressive or even little things D it could be little like uh I woke up today so girl boss it's kind of like a funny thing to say million subscri hi girl boss boss you boss girl boss girl boss danar okay [Laughter] okay please tell her not to hurt me okay main character slash main character moment main character I can predict this one wait about main character what what's the meaning think of like a game or a movie or anything when you're having that like main character moment like something you've done or you've said is like it's literally like a a a something that a main character would do it's like so just about all the way correct just about correct correct it's subjective term all right so it depends on the person sure mhm and it's kind of like what she said like uh when you watch a movie and a character or somebody is Crying in the Rain that's a main character moment but like if you have a hard time waking up every day and you wake up right that's a main character moment for you you know because you you've accomplished something that's difficult for you or you've done something unique that is your main character moment okay like challenging situation or or like a unique romantical situation W main character [Music] moment special situation is main character moment right it's a moment in time so but being a main character is a mindset you're deciding to do something challenging not not more important than people but like the center of your life man woman D got bump bump bump oh oh look character it's like movie it's a main character moment right hi hi main character moment it's like a movie situation is it possible if I say to him you're a main yeah yeah yeah yeah you're a main character today okay special it's a very good compliment you have a story life right like like you could be the subject of a movie like a movie could be Bas like you are a main character red flag R FR FR FR hi I I don't know do you have the same meaning in in Japanese fory means lose loose t i more like don't go forward like red light red light red flag red traffic no like stop stop stop yeah red flag W also stop oh I'm not used to it ah even in relationship okay that's a that's a red so what does it mean it basically means kind of what you guys are talking about I think uh but red flag means that you need to reconsider moving forward with something it's like uh a good example is you're in an abusive relationship or like the person you're interested in has cheated on people in the past that's a red flag that's a red flag they're a red flag and she likes me but I like another person red flag red flag hi but you can also use it in business it's not just relationships so it could be like uh that Prospect right or like the the opportunity seems like there's a couple of red flags so we should reconsider we should think about itrt so it it's less common but you can use it in a business sense so red Red Frog red flag red Red Frog maybe this this is B Big B don't me te te it's like gossip or drama the show hi hi hi hi and you typically you know back in the day you're drinking tea and and talking about gossip what's a yeah yeah like what's the tea what's the tea like if you came in sad right I'd be like what's the tea like spill it spill what's a spill spill spill like yeah spill the te it means to give me the gossip and so like if if Angie were to come in and she'd be like you guys can't believe what my boyfriend did yesterday we would be like a spill the tea spill the tea yeah give us the te honey yeah okay okay okay okay very useful I wouldn't use in a business sense but maybe like more more casually in the office hi hi if there's office drama you could you could be like what's the tea with Karen what's the tea with Karen and HR it's like a crazy person crazy white lady so there's like a Karen Cafe which is like popular you know the Ken Cafe Cafe concept of the t s really easy in I'm so down oh down down yeah are you down yeah down you're down big bets bro big bets big not included that's a girl boss moment yeah g moment because red flag you ex you being ex go I hate you guys oh my gosh I'm sweating the red flag in
