lesson two of week two for most essential learning competencies solves routine or non-routine problems involving multiplication without or with addition or subtraction of fractions and mixed fractions using appropriate problem solving strategies and tools after going through this lesson you are expected to solves routine or non-routine problems involving multiplication without or with addition or subtraction of fractions and mix fractions using appropriate problem solving strategies and tools in solving word problems we have routine and non-routine types of problems since it was already defined in lesson two we will not Define it in this topic in multiplication we will take note of the possible phases that we can use in multiplying any kinds of numbers These are times the product of multiplied by of twice and Thrice these are the possible phes to learn more about our topic we will start our lesson by doing the following activities first is learning task one translate the given phrases to mathematical phrases write your answer in your notebook number one twice the sum of 3 fths and 2/3 less 1/2 is what number what is the mathematical press of this given very good the mathematical phrases which is three 4S multiplied by it means times then 16 over 21 first we will use the cancellation method cancelled 3 and 21 the common factor of 3 and 21 is 3 3 / 3 = 1 and 21 / 3 = 7 then cancelled 4 and 16 the common factor of 4 and 16 is 4 then divide 4 / 4 = 1 then 16 / 4 = 4 now write the new fraction 1/ 1 * 4/ 7 and then multiply 1 * 4 = 4 then 1 * 7 = 7 so the answer is 4 over 7 number number two the product of 5 and 79 and 27 over 56 is what number translate this into mathematical phes product means we will going to multiply 5 and 79 * 27 over 56 so the first thing that we are going to do is change the mixed fraction into improper fraction 5 * 9 + 7 = 52 then copy the denominator 9 52 over 9 then rewrite 27 over 56 now use the cancellation method cancelled 52 and 56 their common factor is 4 52 / 4 is 13 and 56 / 4 is 14 another pair that we are going to cancel are 9 and 27 their common factor is 9 9 / 9 is 1 and 27 / 9 is 3 now write the new fraction 13 / 1 * 3 over 14 and then multiply 13 * 3 = 39 then 1 * 14 = 14 39 over 14 is improper fraction ction we will change this to mixed number 39 / 14 = 2 then the numerator is the remainder which is 11 and then copy the denominator 14 the answer is 2 and 11 over 14 number three 4 and 25 * 7 and 1/3 is what number translate this into mathem ma matical press 4 and 25s * 7 and 1/3 both are mixed fractions change them to improper fraction 4 * 5 + 2 = 22 then copy the denominator 5 22 over 5 next 7 * 3 + 1 = 22 then copy the denominator 3 22 over 3 so so there is no common factor so we are going to multiply the numerator and denominator 22 * 22 = 484 5 * 3 = 15 484 over 15 is improper fraction change this to mixed number 484 / 15 equal 32 then write the remainder as numerator which is four then copy the denominator 15 the answer is 32 and 4 over 15 number four twice the product of 8 over 15 and 2 and 47 so translate this to mathematical phrases twice the product means two times then open and close parentheses 8 over 15 * 2 and 47 first change the mix mixed fraction to improper fraction 2 * 7 + 4 = 18 then copy the denominator 7 now rewrite 8 over 15 then multiply them 8 * 18 = 112 15 * 7 = 105 now multiply by 2 or we can write this as 2 over 1 100 112 * 2 = 224 and 105 * 1 = 105 224 over 105 is improper fraction change this to mixed number so 224 / 105 = 2 is the whole number and the remainder is 14 then write the denominator 105 so the answer is 2 and 14 over 105 for learning Tas three solve the following problems write your solution in your notebook number one a room is 8 and 2/3 M by 5 and 1/4 M what is the area of the room translate this into mathematical phrases so 8 and 2/3 * 5 and 1/4 first change the mixed fraction FS to improper fractions 8 * 3 + 2 = 26 / 3 multip by 5 * 4 + 1 = 21 over 4 then use the cancellation method cancel 26 and 4 the common factor of 26 and 4 is 2 26 / 2 = 13 and 4 / 2 = 2 another pair of numerator and denominator that we are going to cancel are 3 and 21 their common factor is 3 3 / 3 = 1 21 / 3 = 7 now write the new fraction 13 / 1 * 7 / 2 and then multiply 13 * 7 = 91 then 1 * 2 = 2 91 / 2 is improper fraction change this to 37 and and 5 and 11 14 so open and close parentheses first add the whole number 8 + 5 = 13 and then the GCF of 7 and 14 is 14 now divide 14 and denominator 7 then multiply 3 14 / 7 = 2 * 3 = 6 next add the numerator 11 6 + 11 next rewrite 13 then add the numerator 6 + 11 = 17 then copy denominator 14 next rewrite 7/9 multiply it to 13 and 17 over 14 we have to change the mixed number into improper fraction so again rewrite 7 over 9 change the mixed number to improv fraction so 13 * 14 + 17 = 199 then copy the denominator 14 now use the cancellation method cancel 7 and 14 their common factor is 7 7 / 7 = 1 then 14 / 7 = 2 now multiply the numerators 1 * 199 = 199 then multiply the denominator 9 * 2 = 18 so 199 over 18 is improper fraction change this to a mixed number 199 / 18 = 11
