Introduction

  • In this lesson, we will learn Katakana.

Overview of Katakana

  • Differences between Katakana and Hiragana.
    • Katakana has more angular shapes.
    • Mainly used for transcription of foreign words, onomatopoeia, technical terms, etc.
    • Long sounds are indicated with “ヌ”.

Basic Katakana Characters

  • A-row
    • ア、む、り、゚、オ
  • Ka-row

    • Voiced and semi-voiced Ka-row

  • Sa-row

Small Katakana

  • Small や (ya), ゆ (yu), よ (yo), ぀ (tsu) used in the same way as Hiragana.

    • りィヌ (Wi), りェヌ (We) (Using small Katakana)
