When a pitch ball hits a batter, the ball is immediately dead on contact. Depending on where it hits his hands will determine whether it is a hit batsman or it is a strike. If he's in the process of swinging and the ball hits his hands, the ball is dead and it is a strike. If he is trying to get out of the way of the pitch and the pitch hits his hands, that is a hit batsman and he is awarded first base.
If he has his hands in the strike zone and the ball contacts his hands, it is a strike whether or not he is swinging or not.
