Understanding Match Properties in AutoCAD

hello my name is Randy Dobson I'm an instructor here in the Houston Texas area and this video will be covering the match properties command or option this is a really really nice tool it helps you doodle that has shortcuts for you that can can really help you instead of having to go back and redo something understanding that when it says match properties which it is is right up here you can match linetype color layers if you haven't once layers you need to do that it will match all of that but it won't match the object if I come up here to match properties and I take and I select my source and it sang select source object that line and I click here it will make that line on that same layer in that same line type but if I come over here to this circle no it's not going to make it a line it won't go that far but it will change the properties that it can change just like sailing this hatching right here it will let me change really the the layer and the line type and so that's you know and it works both ways if you go match properties if I come over here and select this circle when I select this line or this hatching all they can do is really change layers and line types in color that's it it can't actually change the shape of it what I use it quite often on as if I'm drawing real fast and I forget that I need something on a certain layer say like this layer right here is my line layer instead of selecting all of these lines to be on that layer I can just go match properties pick that use the crossing and there I've got it done fairly quickly another big thing is I'm just gonna copy a bunch of these real quick just to show you say that I've done a drawing and I've got all my hatching done this brick and then here's the the cross lines say that my client to my supervisor wants all my hatching to look like this instead of going back and clicking on this and opening up the hatching editing and things like that I can just go to match properties pick the one they like and then I can just come along here and then just select it and see how fast it's done it's a nice little extra command I called it my Joker if you play poker you'll understand that it's a wild card it helps you out but again just like on if I pick this hatching it's not going to change this line into hatching he's just going to put it on the layer when I click on this text you see the layer is on the circle layer which happens to be dashed but it will not change it to hatching if you don't have it up here on older versions of AutoCAD it's usually under the properties tab or if I remember right you just type Matt's prop there is it starts you again you've got your command line down here to help you a nice little tool to use to kind of keep in your back pocket whenever you're rushing on something and you need to really change it fast without going into a lot of detail and that concludes this video on match properties thank you
