Chevening Interview Preparation Essentials

So without much ado, let's just get into the question. The very first question I was asked is hi guys welcome back to my channel in today's video i'm going to be sharing my chibning interview questions i know you all have been expecting this and i'm doing this just for you so i'm going to be taking you through all the questions that i was asked during my interview and i'll ask a few other questions that other people were asked but i wasn't asked so let's get into the video meanwhile if you're yet to subscribe to this channel I encourage you to subscribe just by clicking the subscribe button down this video the red subscribe button down this video Just click it and then you subscribe and then do well to like this video click the thumbs up bell Now let's get into the video. So many questions are going to be thrown at you during your interview, but the most important questions are the very four questions that you will ask during your application. The leadership, networking, study in the U. and your career questions. Those ones are standard. They are going to ask everybody. But then the follow-up questions may be different based on what you tell them. They have the rights and the authority to throw any questions at you. Different people have different ways have diverse experiences. I'm talking about the questions outside the standard for questions. So while you prepare for the standard for questions, take notes that they may ask you other things based on what you have said to clarify, expatiate, highlight and to question your knowledge and your ability. Actually, when you get to the interview, the moderator is going to break it down how they are going to ask questions. The person will say, okay, you're welcome. Feel free. do not be tense you can ask us any questions and if we throw any question as you and you don't understand do well to ask us to recap and we will gladly retake the question and then he will say or based on my panelists the moderator was a guy then he said so i'm gonna ask you about three questions and my colleagues are going to ask you about three questions each as well and then he read out the interview rules for me asked me to show my id card i showed my id card card it confirmed a few details made up by my date of birth my nationality just a few clarifications my interview was for one hour we spoke for about 50 minutes and after 50 minutes i was asked okay because i mean you have to exit the virtual platform now because we have to deliberate and i actually think they make their decisions there and then immediately after each interview so without much story let me just go ahead and tell you guys you know what you need to answer this question And the very first question was, tell us about yourself. So in that question, I went ahead, I told them about my academic background, my professional background, where I work and the kind of things I do in my job. The skills I have. And then I specifically talked about my leadership capacity, different leadership abilities I possess. It's like asking you, give us your CV, give us your professional resume. So you're going to stick to those academic and professional qualifications. And because trivening is a leadership scholarship, you always have to highlight your leadership experience. Another thing that I was able to throw in was the fact that I... I love to volunteer. So I mentioned a couple of volunteering work I have done and organizations I have worked with. Because my interview was during the COVID period, like the beginning of the pandemic in Nigeria, I highlighted the things I had done during the COVID-19 pandemic to spread the news and to help in the campaign against COVID-19. So I went ahead to do all of that and I brought my question or my answer to a close. So in essence... not supposed to talk too much just restrict yourself to your professional your academic background don't go and say that i'm from a very tiny village in aqua boom states except that your answer has a bearing to either why you want to study for a postgraduate degree maybe in your course or why you want achieving scholarship if it's not going to add a positive value to your response you don't need to talk about so many personal details then i was asked Next, why Chibney? Why did you choose Chibney Scholarship among every other scholarship? Why is it Chibney? Why are you going for Chibney? I think this was my best question ever because I prepared for this question actually. I have made my research. I went to Chibney websites. I read a lot about it. and I went to I checked the activities that current scholars were doing I checked the programs they offer scholars you know things to expect when you become a Chevening scholar so when they asked me why Chevening I first of all started by saying that Chevening is one of the most prestigious scholarships in the world yes so and then it's funded by the UK government and it's for prospecting leaders so I tried saying that I am a leader and because the scholarship is for leaders, I chose the scholarship. So I also highlighted the fact that Chibning has a wide network of alumni community and I was going to be able to tap into this wide, huge alumni community to be able to solve the problems in my field that I intended to solve. There were just so many things I used as example. I also went ahead to talk about the fact that Chibning is not just an academic-based program, that when you come over to UK... They organize different networking programs. They organize different fun activities. They make it in such a way that as much as you are studying, you're also having fun. So how did I get all these things? Nobody told me actually. I went on their website and I checked the different activities they used to organize for scholars. I saw that they used to organize scholar-based conferences, entrepreneurship. you know programs for scholars seminars i talked about all of that i was obsessed i know i was obsessed i talked about all of that and that these are the reasons that i chose shivling that other scholarships do not give these things It's only Chibney that does, which is why I went, I'm going all out for Chibney. So that's basically what the question is trying to get from you. The question is trying to say, what are the positives of Chibney? What makes Chibney better than other scholarships? And then why is it that you're going for Chibney scholarships? Sometimes they may ask you, have you applied for any other scholarship? But I wasn't asked that question. A lot of my colleagues, they asked her if she applied for any other scholarships. And she said, yes. However, that she was. wants Chibney because Chibney will give her what she wants. Chibney is her top priority and she went ahead to explain why even after applying to other scholarship, she still wanted Chibney scholarship. So that's how you answer that question. So the next question that they asked me was the networking question. You know, they repeated the Chibney networking question and they asked me to explain and give clear examples how I engage with other people. I had an option to give them the same examples I wrote in my essay. But I rather preferred to give them new examples that were applicable as a then my workplace. So I gave them like two examples of how I was able to effectively network, bring two people together for a positive good. If not even to my benefit, but to the benefit of others. I really highlighted these two examples as I was about to give my third example. They told me that it was fine, that I've sufficiently answered the question. I was trying to give as much details as I could. But in the same time, time i watch their cues to understand if they needed me to talk more or they needed me to pause at that point because you know i know some people they'll tell you oh it's okay you say no no no i prepared for three examples i want to talk i want to talk if they ask you to stop you should stop which is why my advice for you is start with the most effective example start with the one you know that will give you a very good score and then when you're done with that you can move to the next preferred one and then keep the least preferred option at the bottom so that if you're not able to address that you know that that's fine you're not losing out so they asked me to explain how i will engage with the chivning network this question is related to the earlier question that i just explained you know they highlighted how the chivning has a very large alumni community as i had spoken about that i should explain how i'm going to engage with them so while answering this question i highlighted how i was going to volunteer for the chivning community how i was going to add value to every other chivning scholar that i met i talked about about how I was going to network and build valuable relationships so that we could come together to achieve a task in my field. So I also talked about how I was going to really network with the Achievement Squalors in my field specifically. I told them about the fact that I was going to give back like what I'm doing right now which is I'm you know I'm keeping to my promise. I told them that I'm going to continue giving back because I always highlighted what I do on my YouTube channel which is mentoring you guys. there so i told them that using my platform i'll still continue to do that i'm going to push out the word out there i'm going to talk to people about achieving you know talk to more people about the opportunity because so many people may not know about opportunity but based on my platform i'm going to be able to talk about achieving opportunities so that so many other people will be able to take advantage of it i was going to volunteer to the achieving community when i come to the uk whatsoever volunteering opportunities i was offered i would be active you participating in them you know there's just so much out there to talk about that question is asking you how will you network with children scholars how would we benefit from giving you the scholarship because not every time you going to talk about the fact that oh i need to get scholarship to get funding oh i need to do this my career it's about the fact that how will other people benefit from you being a tribunal scholar that is what the question is about and you should think use credit valuable examples and how you are going to do it use the things you currently do how do you maintain relationships use that how you are going to bring people together so as we are here now as children scholars one of us in my school all of a sudden he just you know organized a meetup session for all of us children with Mary scholars he sent us emails and he was so professional before you knew it we went we met we exchanged ideas we had fun we got to know ourselves we talked talked about the problems in our field and what we wanted to do those are the different ways you network so that is a way for you to just show how you are going to network within achieving community one of the questions that was really intriguing was the fact that they asked me to tell them about a time that i was able to balance competing priorities so they said the master's degree in uk is very hectic is very demanding children will also have programs they needed to turn up to contribute community tell us about a time you were able to balance competing priorities although well I was just waiting for them to land I told them hmm I said okay I have been balancing competing priorities all my life I had told them about the fact that while I was in university I was a class representative of my class and while I was executing those duties at a point in my life I needed to like raise income for myself so I started baking cakes I started doing stuff selling to students to raise extra income and while doing that i was also actively participating in student chambers i was doing mood and mock trials that i even i even won the best council at one of the muta mock trials that we went to do at the bar midi at two moods and work at university of reparton and all of this did not affect my cgpa i still graduated as the best graduating people student of my time So with all those things in my, you know, in my schedule, I was able to prioritize while focusing on my academics during school period. And during holidays, I give attention to other extracurricular activities while also balancing my interest and networking within the student chambers and being able to balance all of those priorities so that was my answer and i'm sure that they were very impressed because they told me okay okay that's nice so guys they are gonna to come at you with these questions i'm not saying that they're going to ask you i have a host of other questions my interview was long and i actually enjoyed it so i'm going to bring further questions because i don't want this video to be too long in the next episode after this one i'm going to highlight other questions and how you should answer them but before i go this last question even if you hold positions in your church if you set up a society or anything how were you able to do that in such a way that one did not suffer for another how i answered that question was that i was able to show them that during time for studies I focused I did my studies during time for extra curricula I engaged in that extra curricula in such a way that I also won prizes so that way the master's degree program in UK will not overwhelm me because I've done this before I'm gonna do it again like I'm doing right now I am actually studying and I am actively on YouTube making contents for you guys so guys let me know if this video was helpful give this video a thumbs up drop a comment in the comment section what you think about this question and how you think you should answer them in the best possible way and if there's anything that you didn't understand about how to answer any of these questions let me know and i will respond to you and do well to keep watching other videos of mine share this video to people that you know that are prospective children scholars who are going to attend interviews and i'll catch you in my next video take care guys see you soon
