we're going to find out if it's worth spending a little bit more for some sound deing material for your car or does the cheaper alternative does it do the same thing will you get the same results there's some popular Amazon Basics sound dading material nothing in this video is sponsored and I will also try Dynamat extreme which has a quite a bigger price point than the Amazon Basics but first before all of that before the sound test well we'll take an initial Baseline sound test to find out exactly how much noise does this engine make and then we'll add some sound ding material under the hood but first the Baseline let's go we'll take her to 100 oh that's cute we'll take the vehicle to 100 km an hour between 71 and 73 DB of noise which would have been the oh goodbye car adapter broke so now I have this tripod all right so that's our Baseline let's go back home and get started all right so where we'll be adding the insulation and is on this section right here directly under the hood not this second section the reason reason why is because it's not a soundproofing material it's not blocking the noise it's deadening the noise going into the cabin and this piece is the important piece not so much this one but first thing that you'll need to do is make sure that there is no grease no dirt on this because if there is the selfadhesive on the sound deading material will not stick or will not stick for too long and also make sure that it's at room temperature this garage is a little bit cooler because we're winter so the engine warmed it up I'll just clean this area this one has absolutely no grease compared to the other vehicle that I sound dead underneath the hood in one of my trucks all right here I have both Amazon basic and the Dynamat extreme they're both made of the same type material it's a but base material and they both have an aluminum backing with of course self adhesive so what I'll do I will try the dynamatic stream first let's see how it feels about the same same heft somewhat sticky love this one yeah the dynamatic stream is much stickier but hopefully the Amazon Basics holds up the reviews on both of these are quite different a lot of people rate the dynamatic stream very highly but it is one thing to know the dynamatic stream if you were to do your entire vehicle for let's say $200 worth of this type of material it would cost you around $80 worth of the Amazon Basics so a lot of people have also mix reviews on the Amazon Basics some people say that they don't really notice any difference and some people say it works great so we'll find out of course the louder your car is the more you'll notice that this stuff really works but if you already have a lot of sound dead material if you have a luxury vehicle then you really don't need any of this so what I use here is a roller specifically made for this type of material I'll have links in the description below of everything I talk about in this video this will make it stick a lot better even though we're going to be removing it in no time it's really sticky we'll see if the Amazon basic is as sticky as this dynamite all right so now that we have the dynamatic stream under the Hood we will go and take another sound test all right we're going to bring her back to 100 km an hour which is around 60 around 70 7172 earlier it was between 71 and 73 so we saw maybe a a drop of 1 D with the dynamatic stream it's not a lot but as I said earlier this is a sound deadening material not a sound proofing material so now we'll go try the more budget option which is the Amazon basic sound deing material all right so now I'm going to remove the sound deing material and it is stuck there already pretty good and it was just installed about an hour ago so with the heat of the engine which will make this stick even more as I'm holding these two types of sound daing materials I do notice that the dynamite is from the beginning was more flexible this Amazon basic like this you can fold it pretty well and the Amazon basic when you fold it it feels like you're breaking it all right let's do this that's not too bad around the same as the dynamatic stream which I am not really surprised so even with the Amazon Basics I mean between the Amazon Basics and the dynamatic stream with the excessive difference in price I would honestly I would just go with the Amazon Basics if you're going to be doing your entire car and it's going to cost you roughly between $2 and $300 for the Dynam at or between $80 and $100 for the Amazon Basics this package that I bought I have 10 sheets and it cost me around $20 it's very inexpensive and you can cover a lot of ground with just that box and video right here we did a sound test on an already very quiet vehicle we put some sound ding material inside the doors so go see how that turned out thank you very much for watching until next time assuming you subscribed
