continue so uh my question is uh a couple of clients received uh EIN numbers that were they had different prefixes meaning some of the EIN numbers uh started with the number 30 some of them started with the number 61 um and it's my understanding that for foreign uh entities uh those EIN numbers begin with the prefix 98 is that true or not true based on your knowledge no that's true it's true usually you're talking about sound like domestic businesses sure United States okay so if an error was made on the part of the IRS in uh assigning those EIN numbers how might I inform my clients to make those speak with 36 they sound like domestic EIN numbers you need to call the domestic Ein line since businesses are formed within the US okay uh but the businesses were formed outside of the United States but they were still assigned domestic not those not part those numbers now again International Ones Will begin with 98 sometimes 99 but not 36 not 61 okay correct so you're GNA to call the domestic line in the future and I'm going to need to give you their phone number and then I'll tell you how can possibly get that update okay can I can I speak so I have a question so why would my clients reach out to the domestic IRS if they're foreigners I can't explain that man but I can say that your business is a domestic business is based off those um EIN numbers and just because somebody is foreign doesn't mean that the business isn't domestic they could have llc's that are in the US that are Oran organized in the US that's a domestic business no matter what nationality they are sure I'm in agreement with you but the businesses were formed outside of the United States how did you submit these applications uh my client submitted them via fax okay then something on there showed that it was a domestic business it wasn't an international either way that's a domestic Ein you're going to need to call the domestic line to questions and those in the future I'll give you their phone number and then I'll I'll tell you on possibly how you can get that updated okay yeah sure give me uh that phone number uh I'm ready when businesses are formed within the US its states that means its territories or the District of Columbia it's 800 829 4933 and then they're open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern through Pacific time zones now to update any type of entity information such as like trying to say hey the business is actually formed outside the US you'll need to write into the entity Department to do that give you their address and then you want to write a general correspondent of course um you want to make sure you're authorized right on behalf of these clients um depending on how their their clients of you um of course the third party doesn't me on the ss4 form only gives you authorization until the Ein is created after that it's kind of their responsibility unless you have the the 8821 or 2848 so just so you're aware sure they you will want to write a general correspondence of course they include their title their Ein and then they'll say what happens that hey we called um on this date Mr Heath let us know that yes it is correct that um based off of that Ein the beginning of it it it does seem that it is a domestic business you want that updated to an international one and then they will either let you know if they're able to do that or not and also just include any type of supporting documentation to them um letting them know that hey know this actually was an international one and I would also double check with your clients too I have done that and so what I did I I apologize I didn't mean to cut you off I'm so sorry about that um and so I asked the clients to send me a copy of their SS fors and I compared their SS fors now I have some foreign clients that were given the exact same information provide well not the exact same obviously because these are different clients but the uh questions filled out on the SS fors were similar and yet one client was given a domestic and the other was given a foreign so that is why I'm calling to find out why the inconsistencies um when these ss4 are faxed over like I know we don't have an ss4 in front of us to be able to compare and contrast but the information on the SS fors are for a foreign trust establishment same information obviously different for different clients meaning the countries are different but one is given a domestic and the other is given a foreign um Ein so I would need to reach out to the entity department and request that these entities be updated well not me but my clients do is there a phone number or an address to that department there is an address I'm ready to give it to you okay I'm ready thank you the first line Internal Revenue Service gave you is for international applicants your EIN based off of the the code of beginning to sound like they're have states attached to them with that being said there's different addresses based off
