AutoCAD Level One Class: Basic Modifying Tools

Overview

This lecture covers the basic modify tools in AutoCAD, specifically focusing on Move, Copy, and Rotate commands. Different methods of applying these commands are demonstrated to give a comprehensive understanding.

Move Command

  • Overview: The command allows moving objects to different locations within the workspace.
  • Methods:
    1. Random: Move objects to any location without precision.
      • Shortcut: M Enter
      • Procedure: Select object, pick a random base point and move.
    2. Using Snaps: Move objects with precision using snap points.
      • Ensure endpoint snaps are enabled.
      • Procedure: Snap from a specific point on the object to another precise location.
    3. Using Distance: Move objects a specific distance.
      • Use command D I Enter to measure distances.
      • Procedure: Enter desired distance and direction (e.g., 80 feet to the right).

Copy Command

  • Overview: Duplicates objects within the drawing space.
  • Methods:
    1. Random: Copy objects to random locations.
      • Shortcut: C O Enter
      • Procedure: Select object, pick random location to place copies.
    2. Using Snaps: Copy with precision using snap points.
      • Procedure: Use endpoint snaps to align copies precisely.
    3. Using Distance: Copy objects at specific distances, often in a pattern.
      • Measure distance using D I Enter.
      • Turn on Ortho for alignment.
      • Repeat process with calculated distances for patterns (e.g., 60, 120, 180 feet).

Rotate Command

  • Overview: Rotates objects around a base point.
  • Methods:
    1. Random Angle: Rotate to any angle without precision.
      • Shortcut: R O Enter
      • Procedure: Select arc, pick center of rotation, and move cursor to rotate.
    2. Specific Angle: Rotate to a precise angle.
      • Procedure: Enter specific rotation angle (e.g., 180°).
    3. Keep a Copy: Rotate while keeping the original object.
      • Use the copy option in the command line.
      • Procedure: Select object, pick center point, choose 'copy', and enter angle.
    4. By Reference: Rotate to align with another object's angle.
      • Procedure: Use reference option, select two points on object, then align with secondary object using points.

Additional Notes

  • Ensure only necessary snaps are enabled to avoid cursor jumping.
  • Use Ortho mode for horizontal or vertical alignment.
