SEO Week 4 Lecture Notes

all right so welcome to week four this is your final and concluding session for SEO in yesterday's uh last week's session we have discussed about the technical SEO on Page optimizations in week two we have discussed seven of those and in the previous session we have discussed some technical Su optimizations which were around website paid speed server response time and canonical URLs and then we moved on to the off page SE which is the external optimization what we can do the reason for it is on page is a onetime activity where you check your whole website you know make all the changes make your website SEO friendly but what next that activity is going to end in A month's time perhaps after that as an ongoing activity for your website pages to be ranking in the Google search results you're supposed to do some thing called as off page which is also the external optimizations so in off page SE we understood that if we have a new website and there's a popular website already existing how can we get a popularity Vote or authority vote from that popular website which in Ence is called as a backlink and if that backlink is a do follow backlink we get something known as a link juice which means that there is some sort of Authority or you know reference referral being passed from the popular website to your website but if it's a no follow back link you still get some traffic out of it but there is no link choose past we also understood how to identify these back links in case of a no follow and a do follow back links and then we also discuss certain link building or backlinking strategies where we do a lot of directory submission websites FAQs uh blog commenting blog submission guest posting and press releases along with social sharing on platforms like Facebook LinkedIn right and then we moved on to activity where we did uh blog commenting real time uh which was on bl.com where we saw that how do we create a backlink manually with a hyperlink right in platforms like WordPress you can simply click on link and add it but there are certain cases where you need to create this hyperlink and this is what we did in the previous session right so I hope it's all clear up till this point at this point do let me know if there are any questions from week three or even week two or week one okay let me know guys uh please respond I just want to get a confirmation that whatever we have discussed till now it's all clear or if it's not do let me know we have some time today we will take up those questions it is clear sham but just one question we had we had done the activity towards the end where we posted this URL correct yes what would be the difference if I posted the URL as it is compared to the way we put it in the anchor tag good question Al right so if you put the URL just like that it is called as a naked URL okay it's just the link name it would show like https the same example here it will show https www.amazon.com but the anchor text here we discussed about the anchor text right anchor texts give you an opportunity to include your keyword okay so whatever be your brand name company name or even you could add certain primary keywords to it okay so if you are able to give anchor text which is much more customized you get an opportunity to include your keyword in there and that looks much better uh even to a human rather than reading a URL so in those sense it is much better and for the Crawlers it gives you an opportunity to include the primary keyword and highlight that okay as an anchor text once the crawler comes they'll know that okay this is the anchor text referring to this link and they are calling this as Amazon e-commerce shopping website okay and you put add a hyper link to it okay it should be it can be something like Amazon eCommerce shopping website okay so in this case perhaps my primary keyword is e-commerce shopping website okay so I've added that and the link goes to amazon.com okay so what you're saying is if I post it using this the anchor text the chances of someone visiting the website would be much higher compared to uh regular URL no for people it will all be same it will be it will look better on the eyes Okay because instead of reading this HTTP so if you're pasting a naked URL it would look like this to the users okay there are two aspects to it one is a user one is a cl to a user it will look like this and the second if you add a anchor text it will look like this to the user right which one is better for a user to read the second one correct so from a user point of view the anchor text is easier on the eyes to read it it is better but from a crawler point of view crawler knows that this link takes you to Amazon but in this second link you will be able to add a primary keyword which I have done here so crawler will understand that okay from this this popular website is giving a backlink to your website in this case Amazon and their primary keyword or their area of expertise is e-commerce shopping okay so this gives you an opportunity to include a keyword which will help the Crawlers understand better okay so for users readability for crawlers keyword okay so it's mostly uh taking into account the users as well as the Crawlers exactly so that's what we discussed right there are two types of backlinks one is a do follow one is a no follow this is for the Crawlers because it gives you link choice no follow gives you traffic right this is for the users okay got it yeah good question elra thanks for that anybody else any questions do ask okay so in that case let's move on to the next bit for today's session so based on this we have understood that these website gives us an opportunity to build a backlink and if they give a do follow backlink we get some link juice if not at least traffic is something we will get but how do we identify that this particular popular website is actually popular there has to be something to measure it right how can we say that you know there is a popular website for you know perhaps we know that website like Times of India Hindustan times lot of people read it right so there will be a lot of traffic but perhaps coming onto the website but is there a metric maybe we can check to make this you know or say this is a popular website right so understanding that is very important and very crucial right only then you will be able to figure out that from which website do we need backlinks from right because there are millions and millions of website on the internet you cannot get a backlink from all of those right we have discussed in the guest posting also that this is a paid activity and if the people have a popular website side you will have to give them you know high quality content on their website only then they give you a backlink right so we have to you know have some sort of metric to check their Authority right so if they are saying that uh whatever backlink they provide they are providing you Authority vote popularity Vote or a backlink how do we gauge that or how do we check if their Authority is valid enough or not right valid point right what do you guys think should we check that yes yeah so for that uh what a company okay Jo says uh MBA student I have exams so I could not submit okay Jo no worries uh absolutely understandable but please drop a note to your coordinator okay so that they are aware of this okay otherwise once you complete today's session you will start getting mails that you know you have not completed any assignments and uh the course completion certificate will not be issued to you so that's the only thing I'm telling you please keep your coordinators informed so that they are aware of this okay there's no harm in you know uh not completing the assignments if you have a valid reason like you and sun and a few others also but just the only thing is keep them posted keep them informed otherwise they would think that okay you attending the sessions but you are not completing the assignments and they have a set deadline right so you have to adhere to that that's all okay thank you so what I was saying was we have to understand if the popular website is actually authorative or not right so basically you can say how to check uh if a website websites Authority before getting a backlink backlink from right for websites like Instagram Facebook LinkedIn understandable they have a lot of traffic and all but you have understood in the previous session that whatever backlinks you generate you should be getting it maybe in the same Niche okay to get Authority or build yourself as a you know pillar or as a you know strong Contender you have to build backlinks in the same domain otherwise it can be generic websites so this is where the major backlink comes from and this will add Authority and value to your website okay so for that we need to check if the backlink coming from that website is actually popular or not okay so for that we have a metric called as domain Authority okay and simple we call it da so this domain Authority is not a metric by Google okay Google doesn't give this as a you know official uh metric but there was there's a company called who builds a lot of SEO tools and uh they are pretty popular they have done a lot of work in the field of SEO back in the day so they introduced this metric okay and uh what they have done is so domain Authority is on a scale of a scale of 0 to 100 okay domain Authority can be zero or domain Authority can be 100 okay and before we take backlinks from any website okay it is a good practice that we check this domain Authority so now okay so now how do we know that this based on this 100 rankings also there is a bifurcation okay so if the domain Authority is 0 to 25 we say that the website quality is low to average okay if it is 25 to 50 we say it to be average to good okay if it's 50 to 75 we call it good to excellent okay and if it is 75 plus we say it to be best okay so on a domain Authority level these are the four parameters you can gauge on so now if you have a new website okay like many of you have have now if you check the domain authority of your website it is going to be zero okay any new website which is built will have a starting domain Authority as zero and as you move forward within your journey you do on page SEO you do off page SEO you start building links you create back links and then given a period of time maybe 6 months one year slowly you will see your domain authority to increase okay and it also depends on the number of pages ranking on Google so once you do one page once to off page you start building back links what happens you start targeting certain keywords right and for those keywords your website pages will start ranking on the Google search result so based on that this domain Authority is calculated and to check this what we can do is go to Google and search for D cheer tool okay can you see Moos is there at the first MOS is the one who had created this metric domain Authority so they are ranking here but you also have lot of other websites also which you can check so maybe let's go to this okay it's a free tool you can what you need to do is put in your website name me take digital Des link paste it here and then click on check Authority now what this tool will do is it will check all the param meters and show you the results okay so can you see here it says da okay da is your domain Authority and for digital withas website the domain Authority is 49 okay based on this parameter where do you think it fits 1 2 3 4 average to good right that's uh the second one you know this is the one where it fits okay so the reason for that is you know uh digital with website is supposedly I think started in 2009 or 10 somewhere so it's almost 15 years old website okay they do a lot of activities to promote it right so the authority has been built over a period of time there will be certain set of keywords which they are targeting and you know now eventually they are on this in this parameter okay slowly it will move to this also and this is a ongoing you know uh metric I would say this keeps on on changing okay as your website traffic your keyword rankings moves up and down your keyword positions in the Google search results move up and down that is where your you know domain Authority will also change okay so if you maybe check it next month you might see the number to be a little different okay so this is the ongoing metric based on how many of your pages are indexed in Google search what keywords you targeting based on that this domain Authority is calculated okay everyone understood what domain Authority is any questions on this do let me know to check the domain Authority uh you only have to go to the website and that is where they calculate based on certain criterias and yes so those criterias you know it's not very clearly defined and since it is not by Google Moos is the one who has created it so you can check this so this is one of the tools it is a free tool domain Authority is a free domain uh tool which you can use so you can use by Moos also but I think that will ask us to login create an account that is the one I'm using this but if you go to Da Checker tool you'll find lot of it okay Moos is one this website SEO check is one ah also provides small SEO tools you can use this also small SEO tools is a very large company they have lot of SEO tools okay you can maybe check see plagarism Checker grammar checker reverse image paragraphing tool okay paraphrasing tool so they have lot of things so here also you can put in your url here okay and then you can click on check out taret okay so different tools same functionality but you know go ahead so would the domain Authority vary based on the website I said so if the domain Authority uh this domain Authority Checker tool if it is relying on moz's domain Authority it will be same but in certain cases there are certain tools which have created their own authority score which we will discuss in the coming session but as a standard practice you need to follow M okay so can you see this is 49 here so both of these tools are following Mo only so that is the reason you have the same domain Authority I'll show you where it differs okay but at this point you need to understand that this score is given by a company called Mo earlier it used to be called as SEO Moss now they have renamed it to okay and they have their own tool also yeah sh when we are checking this domain Authority we getting this da and other two three things also what are those things we will discuss that but is domain Authority clear to you yeah okay yeah we'll come to that okay so here also you can put this is the website which is Mos here you can check okay it will show you the same Authority but I'm not sure if I ask me to lock in let us check it says limit to three reports per day unlimited to M Pro members no data found okay why is that yeah showing to me as well let's remove https and check okay it has given some examples right there's no ww let's see oh hi so I didn't understand the meaning of domain Authority does it mean like how many backings we have created how strong or how do follow backl we have created yes that's what I said right so you are doing keyword research so Sarita domain Authority is basically okay I'll repeat it once again I think I've already said this so but in domain Authority you do keyword research right in week one we have discussed about keyword research based on those keyword research you do on page SEO right week two and in the last session we have discussed about the off page SE why do we do all this activi we do all of these activities so that our website Pages rank on the Google search results right so once you're you use certain keywords to do that you target certain keywords on certain pages of your website right once those keyword are targeted and your website Pages starts to rank on Google search results right once that starts to happen this domain Authority Checker tool will check that okay for your website in this case digital with.com how many of your website pages are ranking in Google search Google search results SCP okay on Google's search results from digital with.com how many number of pages are ranking that's first second is on what position are there at okay are they on page one are they on page two what is the position are they on position number 5 6 27 30 right based on all of these par parameters this metric is created okay it will check how many website pages of yours are ranking in Google results and what is the position of it and based on that it will give you this Authority score saying that your website is say 10 years old uh from your out of 100 pages on your website only 90 are ranking and they are some of them are ranking on page one some of them are ranking on page two some of them are ranking on page three so perhaps your score is 25 to to 50 which is average to put understood uh Sarita yes got it thanks yeah all right okay this Moos website is pretty weird I don't know why this is happening I this shouldn't be the case anyone who was trying with Me ri yeah I also tried it but it's not saying I mean showing that only that's pretty weird okay let's try for some other website then you have tried it other one the SEO the third one no no in here instead of digital with yeah you can definitely use some other website also website for Amazon yeah Amazon as well no it's showing that only I I'm not sure if they have done something to I'm also getting the same thing for Amazon and I for three websites okay okay that's the reason we are not using this okay so I would suggest you guys let this be I'm not sure they would have done something to it otherwise Amazon that definitely should come anyways so what you can do is use website SEO Checker or you can use uh the other one small SEO tools okay either one of is good small SEO tools you will come across lot many times okay they have lot of tools if you click on this you will see hundreds of tools which they have created okay can you see so many are there article rewriter grammar checker word counter split Checker you know there's so many of those and here also and then okay design resume okay they have apart from SEO also they have hundreds of tools for keyword research see they have so many tools here okay broken link Checker XML sit map generator right this and all we have discussed from other websites also but they also have created this okay pretty long list haven't really seen this but yeah it's good so maybe you can uh okay I'll paste this link so that you guys have it as reference so website SEO Checker is one you can use and then you have small SEO tools okay so all clear what domain Authority is yes yes thank you so let's move to the second one which is a page Authority okay page Authority okay also known as p a and this is also a metric you know given by MOS and again this is also 0 to 100 same same company so page Authority what it means is so if you check here for digital via.com it is the domain Authority as in the complete website which is digital via.com but homepage is also a page right so for the homepage the domain Authority is 56 now for each page present on digital withas website the page Authority will be different okay each page carries its own page Authority okay and basically how we can use this is so let's just say that you are uh trying to get a backlink from a popular website okay and on that popular website they have you know already uh so many blogs which they have written maybe 6 months back one year back and you know there are a lot of blogs which they have written so if the if a okay let's discuss with an example let's say that there is there is a page a okay where on this page a you have a Blog article one maybe blog article number 100 okay just example there's a page a and for this page a a this was written let's say 2 years back okay and right now it is ranking on page one of Google let's say on page one they are ranking on position nine okay so this is page one and then there is Page B which is blog article let's say 150 okay this is the most recent one this is written one month back okay just one month old and in terms of ranking let's say no ranking get so in this both the cases which page do you think we should get the backlink from on so this is say it's a popular website it has two different pages and you know we have got to a point where we are able to ask them backing which preference should we have a or b page a okay Al says page a what about others a a she also says a okay says a correct it totally makes sense right it is already ranking on page one so what happens here is since this is a old page okay this is 2 years old so there is some Authority which is built this page would have got certain backlinks right and that is the reason it is ranking on page one of Google search so ideally your uh you know your strategy or as Su expert your approach would be to get a backlink on this page okay and not this the reason this page is just one month old it has still not get started getting traffic also so that is the reason this is where this tool will help you understand the page Authority so if you check the page authority of page one let's say that it would be somewhere around 40 or 50 but if you check the page authority of phb perhaps it will be around 10 okay but domain Authority will still St stay intact okay domain Authority remains to be 49 but as you enter the page so within uh let's say digital Vidya I go to the blog section okay is this incorrect or let me check I think it's under resources yeah blog top 30 business ideas in Delhi 2024 so if you take this page okay this is a Blog Page which I'm taking and if you put the URL here notor robot check Authority okay can you see here domain Authority is still 49 right domain Authority will not change because domain Authority is for the whole website which is digital with but page Authority on the other side will change okay but because each page will have A Different Page Authority sh you have a question sorry okay so is it clear to everyone what domain Authority is and what page Authority is and how domain Authority will remain same for a website whereas page Authority will change from page to page on your website okay clear to everyone let me know whether yes or no okay all right so take thank you for that El Chu So based on these two parameters so moos has you know as a tool as you saw small SEO tools also has so many tools you know within them reason they want more and more people to use their tool tools you know they provide most of the tools as free okay but then they also have a paid subscription so you know you people might have heard if there's no product you are the product right so for a company like Google obvious question how do they earn money and they don't sell anything there's no product or service so if a company is providing you you know with no product or anything you yourself are the product okay because they're utilizing your data and perhaps selling it or you know using it for marketing activities or selling it to some advertisers so similar to that you know the idea is to and you can take the example of go how many of you have uh saw the news so uh the people at least who are in India uh the go and the airel companies are hiking the prices from 3rd of July the mobile tariff plans are going to be revised and on an average I would say it is being increased at 100 rupees per plan have you guys seen that news anybody yes right so that is going to happen so all of you I would suggest go and recharge before third of July third of July you will be able to get a plan at the same rate so it will save you around 6 700 rupees on a yearly basis on a monthly basis around 60 rupees if you're able to recharge for a month but the point I'm trying to make here is Gio Back in the Day 2016 201 17 when it was launched give very huge you know free data right the data was free for almost I think one and a half two years free unlimited data they used to give and even now if you check uh Gio has unlimited 5G plans I'm not sure about airel airel used to give up until March now I don't see it on my phone but Gio still continue to give free 5G plans to the user and now with this new revision of plans what they are saying is you need to recharge for 2GB plan minimum to get 5G which previously was 1.5gb so now what they have done they have given you a free sample okay for so many years they have given you at cheaper rates now be you have become a customer of ch right so even if they hike the price a little bit you are still bound to purchase with them so this is a strategy which companies use so initially they'll give you uh you know tools for free you would have used so many SEO tools or digital marketing tools which gives you a free trial or they say use it three times for free then they'll ask you to log in and if you want to use further they'll ask you to take a paid plan so this the situation is pretty similar where each company tries to maximize that and you know try to make you a customer so small SEO tools is one such example where they have so many tools and you know you you can use the free ones and if needed at certain point if you feel like you can take a paid plan also but which is is not needed okay okay so a little off topic discussion but yeah good for you to know I would say because as a digital marketer you know you should be aware there can be questions in your interview where they ask you that you know as a digital marketer do you suggest us to buy tools like sem rush or should we just Ray on free tools right so at least you should know the implications of you know what each tool provides what it brings to the table and how it can be useful okay so moving forward the third metric which uh Moos has provided is called as a Spam score we can call this at SS okay and spam score is basically a metric which again given by MOS where they say that they compare your backlink strategy so basically uh on your website you are building a lot of backlink trying to get backlinks from popular websites so all of those backlinks they will compare your backlinks okay to those websites that are banned or blacklisted by Google okay so there are a lot of companies you know who do illegal backlink strategies or black hat or gray hat backlinking strategies where they try to you know get links faster and easily from you know certain websites but but Google's algorithm and AI ml is able to detect that so what happens is in certain cases if you're doing certain you know activities which are not ethical Google will Blacklist your website or ban your website they call it to be sandboxed okay once your website is sandboxed for some reason all your you know website pages from the Google search results will be removed your traffic and all everything will dip basically Google will ban or Blacklist your website or sandbox it so what MOS suggested is they introduced something called as a Spam score based on all the backlinks which you generate okay so now this is a advanced activity right first you're supposed to do on page then you're supposed to do off page and then you will start building backlinks so this actually takes time okay so initially for any website the spam score will be one any website initially even if you check your website by putting it into this tool your spam score will be one okay at the bare minimum minimum minimum spam score is one okay this will always be the case so what they do they check your backlinks whatever backlinks you have got from whatever popular websites they will check all of that and compare that with those of the websites which are banned and Blacklist and they give you a score which is a spam score and they say that this is an indication that how good your website it is okay so in here can you see SS this is the spam score this is 1% for digital VI and this again is for the whole website similar to what we see for domain Authority which is for the complete website spam score is also for the complete website so minimum it will be one so you don't have to worry that you know why it is one it should be zero no the minimum for spam score is always one but you have to make sure that you know your spam score doesn't uh go beyond 20 or 30 okay so if you start getting backlinks from certain websites which are of not good quality there are chances that your spam score will be impacted because perhaps they are doing some you know illegal activities or black hat techniques due to which your scores will also be impacted right because we know that the popular website is giving some sort of authority to you but if they are only not very authorative your scores will also be impacted okay so that is called as a spam any questions on this okay so let's take a scenario okay let's say that there's a website whose domain Authority is let's say 91 okay their domain Authority is 91 there spam score on the other side is say 30 okay should could you take a back link from these guys so there's this website which we are calling it to be a potential website from which we can get a backlink their domain Authority is 91 and their spam score is 30 should we take a back link from them yes or no okay s says no no what about others should we take it no says no okay why not I mean Bain Authority is 92 right it is very very good it is in the best category but it can be manipulated right yes absolutely rich right so that is where your spam score comes as a very important metric which gazes that you know if you are a old website you have millions and millions of backlinks but you know maybe they are not from very good quality websites so in those cases your spam score will be higher and this again is a very important metric for you to check when you are taking a backlink from any website okay so there are a lot of metrics but more importantly these are the three most important ones which was introduced by moos and which we need to check as a SEO export when we get a backlink from any website okay but tell me this so imagine that you know we have not checked the spam score okay we were doing a bit back backlinking strategy we saw that this website has a domain authority of 91 which seems to be pretty good right and we didn't really focus on the spam or maybe it was less you know initially that time and we thought that okay let's get one but over a period of time we saw that our spam score is getting implanted okay because their spam score is also high so what do we do in that case do you think we can do something you have already got a backlink from them okay this is the case where you know we have not check the Spam score and we got a backlink already so what can be true what do you guys think I'm sure you might not know the answer but just take a guess what can be a potential solution you have already received a backl okay and now your uh scores are getting impacted your domain Authority is going down your spam score is getting increasing so what should you do what can you do probably remove the back link yeah we can check with the consult an authority to remove it from their site can try and get a back link from another website with a lower spam store e e okay uh all right I didn't realize all this time I was picking on mute uh okay uh I think I heard Elroy where Eloy told that for this website if we can you know focus on building more high quality backings right if you try to do that the impact of this one bad quality backlink will be lower right so it's like uh you have a glass of water there's a you know little dirty water which is a little grayish or brownish and you try to put in more clean water and eventually the water becomes clean or white right so that's one good approach which we can take right where we try to focus on building more and more good quality backlinks so that the impact of this one back link is reduced right that's a good approach I would say in terms of you know back link building but that can take time right I mean eventually you will have to do a lot more backlinking do a lot more guest posting reach out to people try to get more and more backlinks right but definitely a good approach which we can do okay the second one which Chu says that if we can remove the backlink if there's a possibility that you know we can get rid of this backlink somehow that would you know uh maybe we can say that don't these guys are not very good I don't want to be associated with them right so I don't want their Authority scores to be passed on to me right because it is impacting my website also so these are two uh ways I think one suggested by Elroy one suggested by Chu anything else you guys think we can do in this case I have a query what we do is we hire interns for the uh no follow back links H okay that they do this thing so do they or so we have to ask them to check the Spam score for each website and then have a backlink on those websites yes definitely I mean see for off page you don't really hire for no follow backlinks you hire for backlinks be it no follow do follow whatever they can get H for off page off page yes so for off page once you do that let's say that what we have discussed in the previous session you search for free uh you know directory listing websites so on the website people have curated a good amount of list right which the users can go and register themselves those websites are good enough okay because they they have been researched upon and you can also search I think like you can search for free PR websites with da okay you can search like this this list comes these these are all genuine like these are these would have a good spam score or we'll have to check the Spam score for each and then only we should proceed no most probably it'll be good okay you don't have to check for these websites because if you open two or three links you will see some common websites okay so by that you can understand that these are good websites and if you add da to it then you will also see the domain Authority so ideally the list curated like this will be of good quality but imagine situations where within your Niche you're trying to get back Lings from another website so those are individual websites right so when you are doing that you have to be careful that is when you have to check but if you're doing the General off page activities which is all of these you don't necessarily have to check the uh spam score okay and is there any way like how we can check where all our website backlinks have been created yes we'll come to that we in today's session only we'll be using a tool sem rush and we will look at that okay yeah okay so good point Elroy and Chu I think that's that's pretty good uh what you can do as a strategy but there's one more way which you can do so like Eloy said you should definitely focus on building more and more good quality backlinks and that is a consistent uh thing you need to do for your website only then your doain Authority will increase your spam score will be lower right but at this point say this website is impacting your score okay so what you can do is what chu said if we can somehow remove this packing or disassociate ourselves okay so that website is still going to exist right who are we to stop them from creating content or you know being existent so the only thing which we can do is we can disassociate ourselves with them okay we say that you know I have no relationship with them I don't know who they are I'm not you know associated with them at all in any way or any form so you can do something like this where you can't really question their Authority or their way of doing things because their domain Authority is 91 their spam score is 30 they are doing some good things also but maybe they are doing some shady stuff also that is where their spam score have been impacted so getting their website deleted or removing it from the Internet is out of context okay so we will we really don't want to do that okay the thing which we can do is since we have already got a backlink from them we can go to their website search for their contact us page or email IDs okay whatever is present across send them a polite email saying that this is the backlink I have you know received from your website I don't want to you know continue with that can can you please remove my website name from there okay please remove this backlink from your website which is pointing to my website okay and this is activity which Google also suggests Google says that if you have got a bad quality backlink which is a spammy uh which is impacting your spam score uh spammy backlink or a toxic backlink okay so this spam score is mainly associated with links which are called as spam links or spammy back links or toxic back links okay so these are the names we can call it and these links impact your spam score so if you have got a spammy backlink or a toxic backlink Google says that as a first approach you should definitely reach out to the website owner ask them to remove it okay try to go and go to their website go to the contact us page try to get find their email address okay email it to them and ask them to remove a backlink okay so this is a approach what Google says as a first step okay in majority of the cases you might not hear anything okay the people will be least bothered you know emails just goes unnoticed so in that case what we do is Google has uh mechanism which they call it as this a wow okay so you can search for Google disavow tool yeah this is the one so it is more like wow is a oath right which you have taken dis a you are taking back that oath okay so this it says that manual actions against the unnatural links to your website okay the toxic links or the spammy links or which are unnatural which are increasing your spam score this was unlink those websites okay so what it suggests that there is this tool which is called disar tool I will share this link in the sheet also you guys can go to this tool one important thing to note here is for this tool to work you need to have a Google search on right in the first session we have I think first or second session we have created our Google search console account and very ified our domain right so once you come to this tool I have shared this link in the chat window also from this drop down you need to select your website property okay the website uh the Google search console will show your verified account your website property you need to select that and then what it says that you need to upload a txt file okay so we have a notepad right in your system you have a notepad file which saves in txt format okay you can save a notepad file in text file which is a txt file so what this Google says that you need to create a text file okay you need to create a text file and that text file should be in a txt format okay and within that text file you can mention Pages like this okay where you are saying that these two you know pages I want to remove this is a page this is a spammy link which I want to remove this is another spammy link which I want to remove so now there are two ways cannot delete this website or page okay one important thing to know is they even Google doesn't have the authority to stop anyone from creating a website right so Google cannot delete this link from the internet alog together but at Max what it can do is it can stop pointing that website to yours okay so that particular website which we can say you know popular website or big website their association with you will be removed Okay Google that backlink will still be there perhaps if you check in your you know any tool like rush you might still see that tool but now you it will not be impacted okay because you're not able to get rid of that backlink you emailed them you have contacted them they not responding and they are not removing your website name from their website so what you can do is with this tool you will inform Google that you know this is not a good quality website and I don't want to be associated with them so the next time the Crawlers come on to your website and sees that okay you have got certain backlinks from this spammy website they will not consider it although it will exist but Google will not consider it or not take into account okay because you have said that it is a spam spammy website okay so your website will not be associated with them at all although the link might still exist but Google Now will understand that you don't want your name a paid activity so you know this is a little difficult way okay within a month or two maybe one one and a half months most of this list will get it over right maybe in Kora also once you start answering maybe in a specific Niche maybe you might have answered all the question within two months so what do you do next right so there has to be something right the SEO I think like I think somebody had asked the off page team who continues to build these backlinks what are they supposed to do they just cannot say title right they are supposed to do something right because if if you continue to build back links only then your Authority and your name will be uh you know higher up and eventually your website pages will rank higher in the Google search results so as a step what do check from where have they got backlinks okay check the websites from where where they have generated a backlink and that would be a potential place for you also to get a backlink yes or no what do you guys think look if your competition has got a backlink from you know a popular website and you got to know about that okay how I will teach you in the next part that how can you check your competitors backlink but let's say you get to know that your this particular competition has got a backlink from XYZ so can you also reach out to XYZ and ask for a backlink yes no maybe yes right good approach right maybe if they are giving it to XYZ they might be giving it to me also possibility right at least to some extent I can imagine that you know if they are giving to one person maybe they will give to few more possibility if they are you know writing about something uh about say influencers in U you know food blogging space so if they have given it to one person perhaps if I also reach out there are the chances of me getting a back Lings are higher if my competition has got it right so that is the point where we do competitor research to understand what other players are doing so that we can also replicate the same thing the easiest way to do it okay so this is the step where apart from on page off page you do competitor research and you figure out your competition you might through which through digital viya you can get a trial offer for 7 Days 14 days 6 months you know all that Provisions are there most of the tools are pretty similar they function in a similar fashion so we will discuss two of those today and I'll tell you how to use that okay so SC Rush is one of them so if you don't have an account please go to this website register yourself okay you can simply use your Google account to login you can click on sign up iow the cookies and then you can click on this continue with Google I don't know why that is not happening for me now okay yeah it has come up you can continue with Google and create account so for me I will log in okay I already have an account okay so once you register yourself on digital uh you know sorry sem Rush this is the interface you will be placed with and as a first step it will ask you to add a project okay on the left hand side you see projects okay here you can add projects now this sem Rush is again a paid tool but they have a free version also and within the free version you can check one website at a time okay so in my case I have added digital Vidya here so what you need to do is you can add a new project here but if I try to do that it says to create more projects upgrade your plan right so if I want to track any website okay so for your assignments and everything also once you use this tool so this is an important tool from your assignment point of view also you need to Lo log into this tool once you have created an account you have to in the projects give your website name I have given digital withas in this case and you can only track one website at a time if you if you want to change this let's say I want to track another website what you could do is check this box and from here delete it okay once you delete it you will be able to create a new project but with the free version you will only have one website at a time okay so this is the um limitation for this as a free version and once you do that it will ask you to set up certain things it will ask you to based on your understanding of your website it will ask you to add certain keywords it will also give certain suggestions for keywords and it will ask ask you also to add then it'll also ask you to add certain competitors and stuff like that to set up the whole thing once you have you know configured everything you will be coming to a dashboard like this on the left hand side you can go to the SEO dashboard this will give you all of those Matrix okay so as you add the website immediately all of these numbers will not come okay it will crawl your website check everything check all of these you know scores and everything which we'll discuss about it will take almost half an hour to 1 hour or a few hours for all of these data to be populated so once you create a new project and add it in semm rush you need to give it some time for it to populate okay everyone clear on this how do you create a project in sem Rush can you again repeat it the project this thing sure which part so once you go to the project you will only be able to add one okay one project at a time you need to click on create project and paste the website you that's it okay but if you have already added it you can select this and delete it and then you will this link will be enabled that's it okay I've just login it from my Google account so in the first thing they asking me the to uh link your website name correct it's not showing this page on they sh some yeah that's okay so there you put in your website name in my case I put digital with there you can put yours that's a onetime setup because I have already done that it is not showing me but as soon as you uh login with your Google account uh screen will pop up and it will ask you that you know create your first project put in your website name then it'll ask for certain keywords It'll ask for competition and then the setup will be complete okay so this is an important step you guys will have to do in terms of using this tool and you know tools like this are very helpful because they give you a lot of understanding into what a website is doing okay so let let us go one by one I'll also show you how you can do this for competition for competitor website so as a first step like I told you the SEO dashboard will give you certain metrics here so you can see this Authority score right so this Authority score is similar to the Moos Authority score which is domain Authority but the number is different right so this is 41 here and if you remember about MOS it was 49 right so we see a difference in Number the reason why that is happening is each tool has their own parameters of evaluating okay so the we go by MOS as it is one of the most authorative one and they were the ones who introduced this domain Authority score but this semm Rush tool also individually has their own uh scoring mechanism okay so in here the authority you can click on this I icon it will give you details about this okay what this metric is about so this Authority score is the domain Authority score by SCM okay so if we have to rely we will go with this 49 which is by MOS and not by 41 but as a feature of this tool it also gives you Authority score which they have calculated okay so this is the difference between MOS domain Authority and the authority score within SC brush or any the other tool any questions on this Authority score let me know are we clear how the domain Authority within MOS is different from Authority score here why there is 49 and why there is 41 here yes no people are you there or left we are there yeah okay can you explain what is like Authority score I've already done that tell me what the issue is what your question is like organic traffic and yeah yeah that will come I'm just talking about the authority score now I'll come to rest okay yeah so Authority score is is it clear what domain Moos Authority score is why do we rely on Moos okay because they are the pioneers and they had created this domain Authority but over the years each tool has created their own authority score also and the way they calculate it is little different so in terms traffic now this tool also checks your whole website and check on a monthly basis how many traffic are you getting organically so uh okay you guys have not yet completed web analytics module in the web analytics module you will see in detail that any website can have traffic from multiple sources it can be from organic traffic which is we get by doing SEO where our website is listed on the Google search results page people click on that link and come to our website so if organically they are coming you're not paying anything that is called as organic traffic but let's say that you are doing paid ads okay in Google search so then that traffic will be paid traffic okay and similar to that you will have different types of other traffic also social traffic affiliate email okay all of that you will learn in detail in the web analytics module but at this point you need to understand that you have a website from all of those uh your website you have 7.9k keywords which are ranking in the Google search Okay by doing keyword research and by doing SEO for your website and Pages you have uh you have ranked for almost 8,000 keywords okay in the Google search you are ranking for almost 8,000 keywords and those 8,000 keywords are ranked on page one page two page three of Google search and that is giving you a traffic of 1,300 visitors each month okay so this is what these two metrics shows that how many keywords are ranking and from those keywords what is the traffic you are getting to your website okay any questions on this let me know how do you get scared keywords please don't jump okay I will discuss that at least okay everyone is doing that if I'm talking about Authority score let's finish that and let's talk about this we'll come to that okay I'll also discuss refering domains let's first understand what these two are okay or if it's too basic let me know I'll skip this okay if you want to discuss I can briefly discuss I don't have to go in detail but if you jump the break we have understood what Authority score is and we would not be relying upon this rather the MOs Authority score the domain Authority we also understood what is organic keywords the keywords which we are targeting on our website how many of those keywords are ranking in the Google search in this case it is 8,000 and from 8,000 keywords those are ranking on multiple pages of Google search that is given giving us almost 13300 traffic okay now this one thing to noce this is just an estimation okay SC Rush is a tool which is giving you an estimate if you have to look at the actual organic traffic of your website the best source is Google analytics okay but since this is a tool this you can use to understand or estimate for any competitor if you put this in the project if you put a your competitor's website here it will also give you a estimate of the traffic they are getting their organic keywords so that you can get some ideas from it okay so this is where the tool is helpful the next option is paid keywords so right now there is no uh paid ads okay this is the country selected as India let me change it to India here okay now can you see the numbers have changed a little bit paid keywords are 10 okay so in this case digital Vidya is also doing paid PA advertising paid Google search ads and for those 10 keywords are there okay in a minute I'll show you all of these let's finish this one referring domains so referring domains is all of the website from which you have got a back link okay so digital Vidya has uh backlinks from 11,000 websites or 11,000 domains okay now how many backlinks do they have let me show you backlink audit okay can you see here so total in this backl back uh backlink audit the number of backlinks is 53 but the referring domains is only 11,000 why is that can anybody tell me why there's a difference in these two numbers what are these two numbers from one domain they can be multiple backlinks like U from different different pages perfect that's absolutely right so in a way what we are selling is 53,000 53,000 backlinks from 11,000 domain so on an average we have almost five backlinks per website okay so from one website we have understood that we had taken this example right that there can be two pages on any website so like this from one website or one popular website you can take multiple backlinks on multiple pages so on an average it's says that there are 53,000 backlinks and on an average each domain gives them five backlinks so that is the reason we have 11,000 to okay but as a standard practice it is always good that you try to get one backlink per domain so if you know you have 11,000 uh referring domains you need to have 11,000 backlinks but that's not always the case because so what so it's the other way around so you should have 53,000 referring domains and 53,000 backlinks okay so the more number of variety you are supposed to have the more number of places from where you're able to get backlinks that adds more value to your backlink profile and that will show that how good your website is okay so the idea should be to maximizing the domains rather than maximizing the backlinks from the same website right so if you have got one backlink from one website that is it now you try to get back links from other websites don't get it from the same website obviously you can get there's no harm in that but the idea is try to maximize this referring dos okay and by this what it means is we are able to link to 11,000 different people right so 11,000 people are voting for us giving us Authority score so that is why this refering domain number is important okay are we understood are we clear on this now I'll show you what are these organic traffic okay so if you click on this 23.5 it'll take you to organic research tab here now can you see here here it tells you what are the organic keywords okay what are the so there are 9.6k keywords 23,000 traffic and it is giving you a estimation also so imagine tomorrow you have to buy buy a website or you know purchase a company you can get a estimation of these traffic also this is again a metric by SC Rush only so in here the keyword digital Vidya which is a simple keyword the brand name itself it is for the keyword digital Vidya it is ranking on position number one right this this is obvious and this should be the case always for your brand keywords at least you should be ranking on position one for digital marketing courses in Mumbai uh digital viia is ranking on position number six okay can you okay here it is okay I need to upgrade this for that this is weird Okay what is this SF uh no this is something else but this is the position so okay for Indian bloggers if you search for Indian bloggers digital Vias website is ranking on position number two now one important thing to note here is digital Vidya also has multiple pages right there can be 100 200 pages on digital vidia's website homepage is one of those but they also write blogs right so there are there can be multiple blog post where they are targeting different keywords so for this particular blog post which is Indian bloggers we can click on this and open it okay this will open the page which is this Indian bloggers I can click on this this is the blog post which they are targeting okay so for this particular blog post they have targeted this keyword which is Indian bloggers okay and this is ranking on this particular article blog post is ranking on position number two okay so let us try to check I open incognito window Indian bloggers can you see this is position number two this is a blog post from digital Vias website okay same blog which we had opened and it has this Indian bloggers and best Indian bloggers keyword and that is the reason it is ranking on position number two are we clear on this did everyone understand what we have just seen that how do you verify that these keyword rankings are right are you all able to hear me yes yes okay please respond if this is clear okay so here we have seen that this particular tool sem Rush will check all of your website understand what are the various keywords your website is ranking for in the Google search and the respective pages also it'll show you okay which are your website Pages which are ranking okay now so there are limitations to it as you can see only five or six are being shown but in total you have 9,500 okay but you need to take a a free trial or a paid subscription for this okay but over and all it'll give you an overview about this sh this will not show me competitions thing you can put the competition website name in the project it'll analyze all of this for competition that's one way okay but there's another way simultaneously simultaneously is what I we'll come to that we'll come to that okay okay yeah so here you have understood the organic traffic organic keywords now if you also want to look at the paid key keywords you can click on this okay it will show you what are the paid keywords the ads are running for as you can see now we have moved to the advertising tab okay not really the agenda but you can use this tool for a from a paid marketing point of view also okay you can so right now there's no data okay maybe the ads okay I need to change the country here okay can you see 10 keywords so it will show you those 10 keywords for which digital Vidya ads are running and which is the link or the you know landing page they are using for it that sort of data will also be populated let us go back so referring domains you guys have already understood right what are referring domains and how do we get backlinks from it so this is a position tracking tab this gives you a overall estimation that out of all your keywords which are ranking in the Google search which are ranking in the top three positions there are three keywords who are ranking on position number 1 two 3 there are four keywords who are ranking on page one there are four keywords which are ranking on page two and there are five keywords which are ranking on top 100 page 10 okay so this gives you an estimation with once you click on this it'll show you those keywords also and on the right hand side you'll see the top keywords which digital viya is ranking for if you scroll down you will see the site audit in here this is similar to what we have seen in GT metric right it will show you certain website errors on your page you can click on this and check those errors on the on page Checker this will help you understand the on page strategies which we have discussed the technical SEO and a lot of other things which this specific tool is providing okay and it is also giving you certain suggestions that to optimize this what has the three ideas you can check okay you can also look at the full report so you will understand what are the things you can change on your website on page okay so this is from a sem Rush tool Point once we scroll down we will see this backlink audit report okay so this is the important part where you can see the overall toxicity score right so there are three important components to it there's a red high okay this is a medium which is potentially toxic and green ones which are not to so this particular tool what it does is it looks at your all the backlinks which you have on this website which is 53,000 out of that we have 11,000 coming from 11,000 domains this uh 11,000 domains what we have out of that they are saying that almost 25% looks toxic 28% are potentially non-toxic and 45% are absolutely non-toxic right so it says that it is high toxicity score is high like I told you anything beyond anything between 20 to 30% is a little higher so right now it is 25 right so the toxicity score is high for this particular website which is digital web so first thing is they need to uh work on improving the non- tax backlinks they need to Inc increase the good quality backlinks of images if we don't have an images in our this website then please wait let's first discuss about the grammar one okay for gmbb for local listings obviously you will not have okay for local SEO checks if you don't have a business you will not have anything right so in that case you can choose a different one but wherever you can choose your business please do that okay I'll come to images I'll tell you what this reverse images okay for grammar check you need to paste your content here and then you need to check the grammar here so once you do that all your grammatical errors will be highlighted okay this tool will help you do that so that's your first content check the second one is your if your image is copied from somewhere on so on your website you need to make sure that you are using copyright free images okay so the best way to do that is you need to go to Google search search for free copyright images a bunch of websites will pop up you have pixels you have pixabay you have free piic okay you have un Splash you can choose any of these website let me go to free pick so whatever pictures you use on your website you need to make sure that you know you are using a copyright free images to be safe from any copyright strikes so let me quickly search for a image and always make sure sure that you don't simply copy images from Google search because that can invite a copyright strike so be mindful about it and you know the best way is go to websites like this free piic pixabay and that will help you find images which are stock images and free of cost those are copyright free images so example I search for cake I will get lot of images here which I can use on the left hand side you will have this option for license you can click on the free ones so now this images are absolutely free you know you can click on this download it and use it in your blog post no one will stop you okay there will be no copyright strikes but at the same time it says that is this image copied from somewhere so there is this tool which is reverse image search what it does is once you have this image so this image say you have used it in your website download this and upload it here okay upload this image here and and this tool will tell you that is your image copyright free or not so the best way is use these tools so that the issue only will not arise but from assignment point of view download a image a copyright free image upload it here and take a screenshot of it and paste it okay so this will be your step number two which is reverse image reverse image search simply helps you check if your image is copyright or copyright free third is your content duplicacy so small SEO tools also gives you plagiarism Checker that whatever content you write should be authentic and original it should not be copied from anywhere okay so for this what you need to do is so there can be instances where your content is you know somewhat a little bit you know copied or taken from somewhere so example if you are writing a blog post where you're writing a quote from Mahatma Gandhi so that quote might also be present on Wikipedia right so in those most cases you know there will be certain percentage of plagurism which will be there because you're you cannot really make everything unique from you know your own so as a standard practice we say that at least 80% of your content should be unique if it is 90 more well and good but at a bare minimum 80% of your content needs to be plag plagiarism free you need to paste it here okay and click on check pleasur ism so what this tool will do is it will check if your content is plagiarized free or not and give you a score okay it'll analyze the whole website okay can you see it is saying 100% plagarized because I I've just copied some text and pasted it right so this is the score this is the screenshot you need to put and you need to make sure that 80% it is the score is you know it should it should be uh it this should be if it is 100 it should be only 10% 10 or 20% it should not be more than 20% plagiarized content should not be more than 20% so 80% unique 20% plagiarized at Max so if you have written a content on your website you should be able to paste the content here and verify that it is original content okay take a screenshot of this and paste it in your assignment so this is your content check you need to do all these three and then take screenshot and paste it here okay in the first section are we all clear on content checks any questions on this now you show the Google reverse image sorry I didn't get that the reverse image what do you want yeah the Google reverse image search how you use that you just have to upload any image whatever image you upload here it will check and it will tell you if it is copyright or copyright just have to upload the image okay and you can take a screenshot of the result and paste it okay okay so that completes your content checks these are these are pretty simple and straightforward tools I mean I'm still showing you guys but there's no need to you know show it each and everything you guys can do it it is self-explanatory but still for your ease I'm showing it to you guys the next set is the HTML checks okay so the next section on your assignment is the HTML checks HTML checks observation in here you need to use screaming frog tool I hope you guys remember screaming frog from the previous session I hope all of you have streaming frog in your systems by now yes yeah if not please go ahead and install it because it is useful in your previous assignment also so from screaming frog you need to select you can you need to put in your website URL okay so you need to go to screaming frog put in your website URL it will show you the length URL length so URL length it says that it should not exceed more than 50 characters so in this case so example this is your website page so let me open this excluding your domain name it's also a good practice we we have learned about the URL that your url structure needs to have keywords in them right but at the same time you need to make sure that your website URLs are not too lengthy okay so excluding your domain name you need to make sure that it is not exceeding more than 50 characters so this is how it will be after so this this will be my website name website.com so website.com you can leave Beyond this whatever you have should not exceed more than 50 characters this is also a good practice which you need to follow so for your website you need to put the URL length here take this account from screaming frog meta title meta description H1 all this screaming frog will help you do that okay the next part is your technical checks for your website page speed and size you need to use GT metrics we have already seen that mobile Friendly Checker so this what happens is any any website you have ideally so if I say open this by default if it's a manually created website you need to make sure that your website is mobile responsive but if not if it's built on WordPress there are very high chances that your website will be mobile friend so if I reduce the size of this okay can you see now this icon has changed here because my screen size has reduced but if I make it large enough the navigation comes up so this is called as mobile responsive website so you can either reduce the window size to check or otherwise you can click anywhere on the screen go to inspect and in here you will have this option for devices okay here you will have a small little icon which says toggle device toolbar you can click on this and from here you will be able to select a list of devices you can select iPhone 14 pro Max how it how your website will look on that you can select Samsung Galaxy phone okay each devices which are listed here iPhone 12 and you can see how your website looks so the idea is to make your website mobile responsive so that it adapts to the size so if you're on a tablet the size should readjust if you're on a mobile the website sh should readjust and to verify that you can use this tool Google mobile Friendly Checker um okay it's taking me to Lighthouse no not this Google mobile friendly test I'm not sure maybe Google has removed that tool replaced it with Lighthouse so what you can do is in this step you can use this small SEO tool okay I'm pasting this link in the sheet also so for the mobile Friendly Checker since this Google mobile friendly tool is not working you can use this small SEO tool put in your website here the results you can take a screenshot and paste it okay verifying that your website is mobile friendly if it is built on WordPress your website will be mobile friendly okay paste it here test test and take a screenshot and paste it in your assignment okay so this is is your mobile Friendly Checker moving ahead is your website secured or not so I'm assuming in the uh after your website development session if you are sure of your website you have secured your website with https so for this you can use something called as Cloud flare if you have not done this I can share some resources through which you will be able to do this where you can use cloud flare at the platform which will give you free SSL certification which is your https okay so that you need to verify how will you do that here you will see if your website has https your website is secure okay so you need to put a screenshot of this that your website is secured the number of pages indexed so this says site the same thing which I showed you go to Google site uh put the site colon put your website name take a screenshot okay you need to Google search type in your website name take a screenshot of this page which will show you how many pages from your website are indexed in Google search Okay so this is that has Google index the only version of your site huh one important thing to note here is this is the canonical if you remember we need to have only one version right you can have four different versions of your website you need to make sure only one version is available so in here you can check it says https and www now all the links should have https and www only okay now now if you see the all the links are having https and www there should not be any other version of your website okay that you can verify here take again a same screenshot and paste it confirms that you are using only one version of your website which you choose either ww either without ww that you need to put a screenshot are there internal links and external links or your blogs and comments you can paste a link of a Content which you have written which has three hyperlinks and you can take a screenshot of that are there any broken links on your website this we have already checked that a broken link Checker is a tool which you can use and you can take a screenshot of that and paste it so this will show your broken links so this will complete your technical SEO checks HTML checks and backlink checks for the backlink checks you can take uh the screenshot from ASM rush and paste it there for your local SEO uh okay so for the back links okay one important thing for your website you will not have any backlinks at this point right there are very high chances that most of you will not have any backlink so you can simply say no backlinks available okay type a comment saying that no backlinks currently available if you have even one or two well and good if it is not there you can simply type in no backlinks available and for local SEO if you are going to create a local uh Google business profile you can take a put a screenshot here otherwise you can simply write not applic okay are we clear on this the week for assignment any questions I just wanted to check the number of PES index so it's when I write this site. the domain name of my website it's showing I mean it's not showing the numbers it's just showing the number of times this my website is appearing in the Google search can you see on my my screen I can see about 80 80 results so this is the number Pages no it's not showing in my this thing Google search can are not shown so for that what you can do is if others can confirm well and good or otherwise at least for RI I would suggest this particular only one page in my this thing there is only one page there's no that's fine then it you can just take a screenshot you can just take the screenshot and paste it okay okay sure okay but otherwise if you want show the about SE result okay so then try this Chrome extension for those of you who are not able to see like mine try and install this Chrome extension I'm pasting this link in the sheet also so this will add numbers to your page and also page number numbers you will not even see these page numbers usually this is removed now Google has get rid of this but I'm able to see this because of this Chrome extension so you can try this this should show you the result otherwise since your website is new I don't think more than five six pages will be visible so you can take a screenshot of it and paste it okay otherwise try this Chrome extension it should show you this results which is about 8,000 results okay any other questions on assignment 4 sham we have to do each and every uh task on our own website here yes like for the backlink you're saying no but we can take the snapshot from any for any other website no I didn't say that for backlinks if you don't have any backlink just say no back links currently you have to do all of this for
