Introduction
Presenter: Nia from Edureka
Session: Second installment of Business Intelligence tool series
Previous session: Looked at BI tool Tableau
Informatica: Market leader in data management, integration, processing
Aim: Enable participants to work with Informatica PowerCenter after this session
Agenda
Understanding Business Intelligence

Informatica PowerCenter 10
Tools associated with Informatica PowerCenter
Informatica PowerCenter Administrative Console
Demo of Informatica tools
What is Business Intelligence?
Group of techniques/tools for gathering data from different sources
Data consolidated in a data warehouse for analysis
Example: Gathering sales data from various departments for visualization
Data sources: SQL Server, SAP, Oracle, XML, CSV, etc.
Extract, Transform, Load (ETL)
Four-stage process:
Capture data from source systems
Scrub and clean data
Transform data as required
Load data into the enterprise data warehouse
Essential for business intelligence
Informatica PowerCenter
Leading data integration tool
Supports data migration, application integration, and data transformation
Two categories of tools: Administrative and Development
Administrative Tools
Repository Manager
: Manages folders, users, and groups
Administrative Console
: Manages services, nodes, domain objects; performs administrative tasks
Development Tools
Designer
: Creates ETL mappings
Workflow Manager
: Creates and manages workflow to execute mappings
Workflow Monitor
: Monitors the execution status of workflows
Informatica PowerCenter Administrative Console
Console for performing admin tasks
Manages services and applications running on the domain
Two essential services: Integration Service (performs data operations) and Repository Service (stores objects in the database)
Manages security aspects like user roles and access
Demo: Informatica Tools
Objective
Load retail organization's data and understand customers better
Phases: Create folder in Repository Manager, create mapping in Designer, create workflow in Workflow Manager
Phase 1: Repository Manager
Create a work folder for storing sources, targets, mappings, workflows
Configure different repositories and analyze dependencies
Phase 2: PowerCenter Designer
Source Analyzer Workspace: Import and manipulate source definitions
Target Designer Workspace: Modify target definitions
Mapping Designer Workspace: Define data flow and mappings
Transformations: Joiner Transformation, Aggregator Transformation, etc.
Phase 3: Workflow Manager
Create workflow and sessions/tasks to execute mappings
Set session properties for source connections and target definitions
Workflow Monitor: Monitors execution status and statistics
Conclusion
Summary of covered topics: BI, ETL, Informatica PowerCenter tools, admin console, and demo
