Structure of Body Paragraphs

  1. Topic Sentence
    • Begins the paragraph
    • Reflects one reason from the thesis statement
    • Introduces the main idea of the paragraph
  2. Detail Sentences
    • Explain the topic sentence with facts, reasons, or examples
    • Aim to prove the thesis statement main idea
  3. Conclusion Sentence
    • Reminds of the topic sentence
    • Should not be exactly the same as the topic sentence

Purpose of Body Paragraphs

  • Prove the main idea of the thesis statement
  • Help decide what content to include

  • Detail Sentences:

    • People feel happier spending time in nature.
    • Highlights benefits of outdoor exercise, proving walking's superiority.
  • Conclusion Sentence: Walking outside helps mental and physical health.
