My name is Isabelle and the topic I researched for this project is zircon. What is zircon and why is it important? Zirkcon is a durable mineral that forms from magma inside the earth in a process called metamorphism. Metamorphic rocks go through heat and pressures that cause them to recristallize. It is durable and resistant to geological events and is important for it history. IC industries and space exploration. So what is Zirkcon's role in history? Zircon helps scientists learn Earth's past like the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs. It provides clues about early Earth's environment, how continents and oceans were formed. It works like a geocchronometer, a timekeeper that shows us the age and history of planets including Earth, the moon, and Mars. Circon plays a significant role in the world's history. So without it, their history over Earth would not be available. Okay. So Ziron's derivative sirconium plays an important role in high-tech industries including nuclear fuel, electronics, ceramics, medical instruments. It is also used to make everyday household objects such as scissors, TV, cosmetics, antipersperins, food packaging, microwave filters, and glass. The latest deal that was signed by the US and Ukraine grants us access to these rare minerals. Lastly, space exploration. Circon is Earth's oldest mineral dating back 4.4 4 billion years ago. Crystals were found in lunar samples collected during Apollo missions and it has helped determine the age of the moon. It was also found in Martian meteorites which provided evidence of impacts on Mars. It help it has helped scientists piece together the history of planetary surfaces and understand the process that shaped them. In a world without Zirkcon, there will be no cosmetics. What's the like weirdest use that you like research? I wouldn't necessarily say there's like any weird research for siron, but like um I don't think there's like any good research about it. So, um, like in the beginning of my in between my eyes, it can come in like a lot of colors, but the rarest color is green. So that can cost like like if you were to find it like it could cost up like to at least maybe a few thousand dollars or like other kinds of colors of tiron can like cost maybe hundreds like or thousands thousands of dollars.
