Seville's April Fair Celebration and Traditions

If you're in Seville in April, you must go to the Fair. The Fair of April is one of the most known festivals in Spain. The people of Seville hold the fair in an area called Real. The "Portada", which is different each year, is at the main entrance. The streets of Real have names of bull fighters. They make the sidewalks yellow, similar to bullrings. There are more than thousand booths and they are all white with red or green stripes. The festival is celebrated inside the booths, where people eat, drink, talk and dance to enjoy themselves. But be careful, the booths are not public bars. Almost all of them are private and only the owners, friends or people with invitation can go in. There are also some public booths which everyone can go in. The music that they sing and dance in the booths is the "sevillana", which is a variety of flamenco. The "sevillana" is danced in pairs. This is the most popular folkloric dance in Spain. The Fair of April is very entertaining, in which everyone has fun, from the young to elderlies… and even those who were not born in Seville. A typical dish of these days is ham and fish. And a typical drink that is a kind of wine called "manzanilla". If you add a soft drink to your "manzanilla", you’ll have a "rebujito". There’s music in all the booths, and in some there are musicians singing live. Carriages and horses with riders pass through the streets of the Real. They can ride from 12 noon till 8 in the evening. In my opinion, the most beautiful moment is in the evening, when you can see more carriages and horses on the streets. People are dressed up very elegantly. Men wear American costume and tie, and women wear a flamenco dress. Similarly, the coach drivers and horse riders dress elegantly. Normally, the people of Seville celebrate the Fair of April three weeks after the Holy week. The Fais takes a week. It starts at night of a Monday, when they turn on the lights of the Facade. It’s a tradition to eat fried fish on that night. There is a big amusement park next to the booths. They call it Hell street. In this area, there are food stalls and restaurants for everyone. The people of Seville like bullfighting very much. During the Fair of Aprill, there are bullfights in which the best bullfighters participate. Look! A bullfighter is coming here. Master! Master! Good luck! They turn on the street lights at night, of the Facade and the festival continues in the Hell street, on the sidewalks and inside the booths. What will be, what will be what will be, what will be That tonight I haven't slept What will happen to me when I go to the Rocio. Let’s go! Bravo! (English translation by Elham Arabi)
