Mixing Skin Tones with Acrylic Paint

[Music] hello everybody my name you my is request how i mix skin tones [Music] with paint with acrylic paint i use acrylic i do want to say fair warning even though you guys have requested this a lot i don't really know what i'm doing and i'm going to be doing the best i can to try and explain my process um it's raining oh my gosh can you see that in my window yes yes guys i'm so excited for fall i have this like sweater on and i have a pumpkin i bet you didn't even see that one coming i literally have a pumpkin right in front of me like a real pumpkin anyways so i'm just gonna be showing you guys my process with how i make skin tone please consider subscribing because i need it to survive okay and if you don't subscribe this pumpkin this pumpkin is gonna die i make skin tones using only three colors red yellow and blue plus white now i know what you're going to say that's four okay you just listed four different colors now i don't know if you guys know this but white technically isn't a color and i would know this because i just googled it so this is gonna be a very dumbed down version on how to make skin tones not because you guys are idiots but because i'm an idiot and i have no other way to explain it so [Music] it's the diaper first of all guys i do want to say you're welcome because i bought new palettes just for you this is what my palette at the moment looks like and i just figured you guys just wouldn't really be able to get like a clear represent my goodness toxic anyways i'm gonna be using liquitex basic that's the only paint that i've ever used i'm using primary red primary yellow and primary blue those are literally the color names on the bottom just gonna pour out some color for this purpose oh my god it's raining so hard i'm gonna cry i'm not gonna be pouring out too much color because i'm not gonna need it also if you have any questions on how to you know blend colors or keep acrylics from drying out i do have a video on that right here but just know it's a real oh my god it's actually pouring i always start with a dark color because i always start with red and blue and when you mix red and blue you get this dark purple okay i always add yellow always have to add a little bit yellow because then you're just gonna have purple and you can't just have a purple skin tone okay you just can't do that now you're gonna see here when i add white it looks really like blue like a dull purple and um that's okay don't panic because you can fix it okay because i think what happens when you add white is it kind of takes away the color a little bit or the tint or i don't know the vocabulary i don't know but then i always just add some red and some yellow and then that's literally the whole that's literally it guys that's it you just keep adding white and then adding red and yellow and then you keep repeating it repeating repeating white red plus yellow white red plus yellow white red plus yellow white red plus yellow until you get your desired value your desired color i do want to mention the reason you're adding blue is because if you were just mixing red yellow and white it's going to be very vibrant and it's not going to be natural at all because the blue kind of dulls down it's kind of like a it's kind of like a dollar blue is a dollar okay and you need a dollar so it kind of dulls down the color to make it more realistic a little more natural if you add too much blue it's going to be very ashy so you can counteract that with some yellow or some red of course it just kind of depends on what color you're really going for now you can see here at the end it's very red the whole thing is just like very red it looks just like warm like really really warm it doesn't really look like skin toned it's just very pink and obviously that's because i added too much red and i was on a bit of a time crunch when i was doing this so i'm gonna go ahead and blend the fact that i was in a brush so what do you do when it's too pink when it's too red like this and obviously these are skin tones like don't get me wrong you can definitely paint with these if that's what the color you're going for but if it's not and you want a little more dulled down obviously you could add some blue add some yellow and you sneeze so add some yellow and i'm going to show you here what that looks like right there and that whole thing just kind of evens it out a little bit and also you can add more yellow if that's the skin tone that you're trying to go for and of course you can also add more blue if you need it um [Music] if you need guys okay it just really depends on what skin tone you're painting and if you're using a reference it depends on you know what the reference looks like and what the colors they look like and obviously it's not all going to be the same there are going to be some areas of your face where it's going to be a little more red maybe around here maybe a little bluish around here like the skin tones aren't always going to be one thing or another they're all going to mingle and kiss so i do want to say don't use black ever when you're mixing colors okay because it will give off a really unnatural look okay when you're when you're trying to create a shadow like on your face don't use a black to mix because it's gonna give off a really dull vibe unless of course that's what you're going for i think a little bit of color is always nice i feel i feel like what i just said like all of the stuff that i just said was bad i feel like i like i feel like i explain anything to be clear anyways i obviously didn't learn this overnight it took a lot of practice and you know just consistency just keep on painting guys and i swear my life you will naturally progress and improve if you know that's what you're trying to focus on and i wish i could have explained this better but i am self-taught so i don't know any vocabulary or anything like that to help you guys and i would suggest you searching up some other videos on youtube to help you learn anyways whatever i don't even know why i'm talking so thank you so much for watching and i have to water this pumpkin every single day and you know i need you guys to subscribe for the pumpkin watering please [Music] it's getting wild i said i'll tell you that but okay this is camilla signing off thank you so much for watching so much i love you guys okay okay bye look at the rain love rain rain
