Whenever anyone utters with reverence the name of Babaji, that devotee attracts an instant spiritual blessing. Paramahansa Yogananda has mentioned in his book Autobiography of a Yogi many times about this being called Mahavatar Babaji. I am also going to tell you about Yogananda's encounter with Mahavatar Babaji in this episode. But before that, let me tell you about who this great being Mahavatar Babaji is.
Mahavatar Babaji has been living in the Himalayas for 5000 years. He has retained his physical form even to this date, and appears as a young boy of age around 16 to 20. Babaji's spiritual state is beyond human comprehension. He is the only one who gave the sacred signs of Kriya Yoga. When the Kriya Yoga was lost in the In Kalyug, he revived it by initiating Lahiri Mahavatar into Kriya Yoga and sending him to the world to teach Kriya's techniques, so that humans can also be benefited and they can attain God-realization.
Yogananda in his book has published a picture of Mahavatar Babaji which is drawn by an artist as per Yogananda's instructions. This is that picture. Mahavatar Babaji defies all laws of existence.
He breaks space-time continuum. This whole universe is just a small bubble. in his consciousness. And I can keep on trying to tell about this being for years and still words will not do justice to tell about the glory of this being. That's why we refer to him as Mahavatar.
Here's the story when Yogananda met this Jyoti Sarubh, embodiment of light. One day Yogananda was immersed in deep meditation and behind the darkness of his closed eyes he started seeing American people roaming around in the streets of America. After opening his eyes he called his disciple Bimal and told him that Lord is calling me to America. Yogananda didn't really want to go to America because he thought it's hard to convince the Westerners about the philosophies of our dishes and also he was concerned that he would get lost in the whirlpool of materialistic Western atmosphere. One early morning he began to pray to God to seek his blessings and assurance that he would not lose himself in modern world of America.
He was praying with such an intensity that his brain was about to explode. plot, as he explains in his autobiography. And then he heard a knock on his door and then came a youth wearing a robe of renunciate. Yogananda was able to make out in his mind that he must be Babaji. Babaji upon answering the thought said, Yes, I am Babaji.
