According to the best of my ability. [Applause] And on behalf of the board, we really look forward to the coming year and having a student on the board. Uh, next we have um board committee reports, but this afternoon we have no board committee reports, nor do we have any district committee reports. Um, just however, I'd just like to make a quick acknowledgement of the plethora of summer opportunities available for students this summer. Just because it's summer doesn't mean students have nothing to do. Um, the district provides a lot of opportunities for students, but there are also so many that involve collaboration with outside groups such as Boseies, Scope, Friends of Music, Smithtown Booster Club, and Town of Smidtown to name a few. And I just want to make a quick acknowledgement to the support of district administration in developing those relationships as well as the board. Um, and we look forward to continuing to work with these groups in the future to provide student opportunities going forward. Uh and with that we move on to the superintendent report. Dr. Seore. Thank you and good afternoon. I would like to start by welcoming Maline Donahe, our uh student exeicio board member as well as Mrs. Bernardet Acriman and Mrs. Terresa Donahghue to the board of education. I would also like to congratulate Mr. Gribbon and Mr. Crane as they assume the roles of president and vice president of the board. I look forward to working with them and the rest of the board as we seek to collaboratively make decisions that benefit our students and the staff who serve them. As we begin this summer in earnest, I think this would be a good opportunity to share some of the important work that goes on this time of year. In addition to the supervision and support of the summer programs we offer, we are busy finalizing the work associated with the last school year while preparing for the 2025 2026 school year. Currently, we are working to create a compilation of the work done to support district goals during the previous school year. This is a labor intensive exercise, but I intend to complete this work in the weeks ahead. I also intend to help facilitate goal setting for the board of education, and we anticipate that the board will soon adopt a set of goals for the upcoming school year. We will also map out and share the schedule of presentations that will be made at next year's board of education meetings. I feel these are valuable opportunities for the board and the community to get a better understanding of the depth involved in our work. On the financial front, the summer period is when we close the books on the previous year. Expenditures, revenues, transfers, etc. Additionally, the external audit field work begins in June and continues throughout the entire summer with final work culminating towards the end of the summer. This summer will also again entail capital construction work including both bond and capital reserve projects but will also include preparing bid specifications and contracts for the phase three bond projects as their respective approvals are received by the New York State Education Department. As I mentioned previously, we are offering a number of opportunities to benefit our students this summer. We will be hosting the Smithtown Scope summer enrichment program in August. This opportunity was made available to students in grades 1 through 12 and offer support in reading and mathematics as well as SAT preparation and classes devoted to the college application process. In addition, we will continue our partnership with Western Suffach Boseies to afford our students the opportunity to participate in the regional regions review pro program and take August regent examinations at no direct cost to our families. The district is offering optional transportation via shuttle bus between our central office location and the host school in South Huntington. We are also happy to host the Smithtown Booster Club summer camps and we are very grateful grateful for the work and support of the booster club and the athletic opportunities they afford our children. We will also host an extended school year program and a summer skills program for our students with individualized education plans. due to due to year- round programs such as the these, our PPS office functions in a very similar and hectic fashion as they do in the school year. In addition, these programs, we are busy final finalizing the staffing for the 202526 school year in order to ensure that we will have all positions filled prior to September. We will also prepare for the new teacher orientation and the official welcoming of our newest colleagues as well as facilitate the required training for staff and the end of August administrative meetings that take place when the entire administrative team returns to work. We will also work to ensure that our staff have all of the necessary materials they need for the upcoming year. This is a large task and takes a great deal of effort to make sure we have what we need without purchasing materials in excess that would drive up cost to our taxpayers. We also take the time necessary to prepare for upcoming district initiatives and committees to ensure that our collective work is aligned with district goals. This summer is also when we update district procedures and memos related to district field trips, elementary and secondary assignments, initial work on updating the secondary course cataloges, the sequencing of topics in the elementary curriculums framework in in consideration of recommendations made by department and building administrators andor teachers. We're also planning for instructional specialist meetings that are held throughout the school year and preparing and finalizing all documents required by the New York State Education Department to meet state and federal requirements. To summarize, the summer provides us with a valuable opportunity to reflect on the previous year and map out short and long-term plans for the future. That concludes my report. Thank you.
