Introduction

Family Background

    • Originates from Prophet Ibrahim through Ismail.
    • Born in the Quraysh tribe, a highly respected tribe in Arabia.
  • Hashim (Great Grandfather):

    • Known for respect and generosity.
    • Took care of Hajj pilgrims in Mecca, distributing food.
    • Businessman who traveled to Yemen (winter) and Syria (summer).
  • Marriage and Legacy:

    • Married Salma during a business trip; fathered a son, Shaiba (Abdul Muttalib).
    • After Hashim's death in Gaza, Muttalib brought Salma and Shaiba to Mecca.
    • Shaiba was known for his intelligence and handsomeness, later becoming a leader of Quraysh.

Zamzam Well Miracle

  • The Zamzam well was lost to the people after they began worshipping idols.

  • Abdul Muttalib's Vision:

    • Allah revealed the location of the Zamzam well in a dream.
    • Upon discovering the well, Abdul Muttalib promised to sacrifice one of his sons if he had ten.
  • Lottery for Sacrifice:

    • After having ten sons, a lottery was drawn, leading to Abdullah being selected.
    • The community offered 100 camels instead of sacrificing Abdullah, which was accepted after repeated draws.

Abdullah and Amina

  • Marriage:
    • Abdullah married Amina, a noble woman from Quraysh.
    • Amina became pregnant, but Abdullah died on his return from a business trip just before Muhammad's birth.

Abraha's Attack on Makkah

  • The governor of Yemen, Abraha, aimed to attack the Kaaba with a large army (60,000 soldiers and 13 elephants).

  • Community's Response:

    • Abdul Muttalib had unwavering faith in Allah's protection of the Kaaba.
    • He advised families to hide in the mountains.
  • Miracle Against Abraha:

    • Elephants refused to advance towards the Kaaba.
    • Small birds sent by Allah dropped stones on Abraha's army, leading to their defeat.

Birth of Prophet Muhammad

  • Date of Birth:
    • Muhammad was born on April 20 or 22, 571 (9th Rabi al-Awwal).
    • Some scholars argue for 12th Rabi al-Awwal, but 9th Rabi al-Awwal is more widely accepted.
