Introduction

  • 119 Ministries believes in the truth and application of the entire Bible.
  • Aim to share and fully understand the gospel.
  • The word "gospel" means "good news." Various interpretations exist.

Common Definitions of the Gospel

  • Some common responses:
    • God loves you.
    • Jesus died for your sins.
  • Popular biblical definition: Death, burial, and resurrection of Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).
  • Breaking commandments = sin (1 John 3:4).

Sin and Salvation

  • God's commandments:
    • Created for glorifying and loving God.
    • Defined by obeying God.
    • Not burdensome (1 John 5:3).
  • Sin: Failure to love God and others by breaking commandments.
    • All have sinned and deserve death (Romans 3:10).
  • Salvation:
    • Jesus (Yeshua) lived the law perfectly and took on death for humanity’s sin.
    • Belief and following Jesus offer eternal life (John 3:16).

Following the Messiah

  • True faith: Leads to following Jesus and decreasing sin.
    • Living according to God's word, avoiding sin, and desiring God's law.
    • Evidence of faith: obedience to God’s commandments.

The Gospel in the Old Testament

  • Hebrews 4: Gospel preached to Israel as well.
  • Torah: Foreshadowed the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.
  • Appointed Feasts (Leviticus 23):
    • Symbolize Christ's redemption.
    • Each feast foreshadows Christ's work and future events.

Appointed Times and Their Significance

  • Passover and Unleavened Bread:
    • Jesus as the Passover sacrifice; represents living in obedience.
  • First Fruits:
    • Jesus’ resurrection as firstfruits of the dead (1 Corinthians 15).
  • Pentecost (Shavuot):
    • Establishment of Messiah's kingdom, connection to giving of the Torah.
  • Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah):
    • Foreshadows Messiah's return.
  • Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur):
    • Represents judgment and possibly the marriage ceremony with Christ.
  • Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot):
    • Symbolizes God dwelling among men; might mark Messiah's birth.
